2 FROM YOUR PASTOR S PEN CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EAGLE Over the last five months four young men from St. Paul s Parish have received the honor and rank of Eagle Scout. Those young men are: Logan Engelking, Garrett Bartelt, Elijah Mathia & Zach Thomas. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The scout has to earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, and demonstrate leadership. Only about 2% of Boy-Scouting membership earn the Eagle Scout rank. Each of these men did an extensive service project that he had to plan, organize, lead and manage. Logan s project benefitted the Safe Babies Healthy Families organization, which works at ensuring the safety and health of children, especially the abused, neglected and poor. He painted the interior of the organization s retail store and designed, purchased and installed all sorts of shelving to quadruple the storage space. Garrett s project was organizing and executing the creation of a vegetable garden on the grounds of All Saints Lutheran Church to raise food for the food pantry. He was able to donate over 500 lbs of fresh produce. Elijah s project involved painting maps of the United States and the World on the playground of Prairie View Elementary in the Mukwonago School District. Both teachers and students used these scenes for learning. Zach s project involved the organizing and building of a meditation fountain on the grounds of the Troop s Charter Center at St. Paul s Church in Genesee Depot. The fountain is found by the bell tower. The flowing water out of a large rock is shut down for the winter. Be sure to visit this garden of reflection once we head into the summer! All four of these outstanding young men have served various roles of leadership within Troop 135 and have proven that they will be witnesses of good citizenship in the years to come. Congratulations Logan, Garrett, Elijah and Zach! Thanks for your service and example! Fr. Ralph Parishioner Listening Sessions THANK YOU to all of those who participated in one of the listening sessions in February. Your loyalty and energy for St. Paul s was exciting and your input toward spring of 2016 is extremely valua- Parishioner input from all sessions will be summarized to Parish Leadership during strategic planning process throughout March, April, and May. If you were not able to attend any of the St. Paul sessions but still wish to participate, please Rita at to see if a future session may be added.thank you again for playing an active role in St. Paul s future planning. 2 RECONCILIATION CLEANSES The absolution given us by Jesus Christ through the priest and the Church in the Sacrament of Reconcili- absolutely restores our covenant and bond with God and the whole family of God. That of forgiveness generated through the love of Jesus death on the cross and His Resurrection makes us new, whole, healed, alive again and one with God and one another. Our sorrow for and confession of our offenses is such a small thing to do to receive such a tremendous gift from God. So sometime during Lent take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, either privately or communally, and experience the same life you had the day you were baptized. A number of communal penance services are scheduled throughout Lent. Each will include an opportunity for the penitent to confess privately to a priest and receive sacramental absolution. (See front cover for all days and times in this area.) Recognize your sins, confess your sins, receive absolution! PARISH STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE We are truly grateful for your sacriice and generosity. The window on the west entrance depicts the imprisonment of Paul in Rome (Acts 28:1131), where he was imprisoned and martyred, after fulilling the command of Christ, to give witness to Him throughout the world. The lighted shadow box on the interior concrete wall to the left of the church doors, holds a stained glass window depicting St. Paul with a scroll and a sword, symbols of his mission and his martyrdom. This window was installed in the irst St. Paul Church and contains the names of some of the founding families. Make a gift that will make a difference. Your gifts of cash, stock, real estate and insurance are needed to make our endowment grow, giving our Church s perpetual income. Contact the Parish Ofice today to learn more of how a gift today can be transformed into an eternal gift that helps pass on our Catholic heritage.

Reformation Lutheran Church receives assistance from St. Paul Parish in their outreach to the poor in their Milwaukee One of their important ministries is The Neighborhood Store. Donated home goods and other supplies are available there at reduced prices. Donations might include donated backpacks and supplies (our parish collects these in August to send to the Store). This allows a parent with few inancial resources a sense of pride and dignity when they are able to take their child into the Neighborhood Store to purchase new supplies for them at the beginning of a new school year. Your donation this Lent can help the Neighborhood Store continue to support the dignity of the poor; they are moving to a new location and will likely incur costs to make this move. The Store is one of the many ways Reformation Lutheran is afirming the selfrespect of people wrestling with poverty. If you are doing your spring cleaning and have home goods/clothing you would like to donate to the Neighborhood Store, contact Deb or Brian Schneider at 2987 or HUMAN CONCERNS Our parish Peru commiee has been working to find a short term soluon. top water purificaon systems at the school and more informaon (262 Monetary donaons received during our Lenten almsgiving collecon can be directed toward the water purificaon systems or a fund for basic 3 Have you ever wondered what it was like to be at the cross when Jesus was dying? I have. What was it like to carry the cross up? Was it an easy journey up the hill? Who was there? Did you know that there is a really cool thing that every single Catholic Church has that can help you to better think about and understand what happened to Jesus on that day? It s called the Stations of the Cross. There are fourteen stations. They begin with Pilate choosing to wash his hands of Jesus death and let the people crucify Jesus and ends with Jesus being laid in the tomb. By looking at these images through out the Church and spending time thinking about them, you can really learn to appreciate all that Jesus did for us. You see, Jesus did all of this out of love for you. If you were the only person on earth Jesus still would have done all of that just for! Stations of the Cross are every Friday at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. If you aren t able to go to the Stations at those times, ask your parents to ind a list of the Stations and you can actually go look and pray with them on your own after Mass next Sunday. Continue having a blessed Lent. Why do we have the ancient devotion of the Stations of the Cross? Well, quite simply it is because too many people could not read in the middle ages. Yet there was a desire for the people to have a way to meditate on the life of Christ. So, these images were put up around the Church. The Station of the Cross that I think has most impacted my life as an adult has been the seventh station: Jesus falls for the second time. Here is the GodMan, carrying His load up the hill, struggling with it, and He falls to the ground. It is a pivotal moment where Jesus needs to decide do I stay down or do I get backup. We know that He does get up and continues on and inishes the walk up to Golgotha. For myself, I have often thought much of life is the seventh station. Much of my life is spent deciding will I continue on in this journey of faith. Will I choose to follow my own desires, or will I choose to love Christ even when it is in conlict with my own desires? It is, at times, dificult. As I sit and think about the seventh station I realize that if Jesus did not continue on in love for us, there would never have been the cruci- ixion. With this cruciixion, we realize something amazing the length at which the God of the Universe was willing to go to in order to save us. Stations of the Cross are every Friday at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. If you aren t able to go to the Stations at those times, you can spend time praying with them on your own after Mass next Sunday.

PAUL SCHOOL SPEAK AT MASS We would like to thank the alumni and students who spoke to our parishioners on the weekend of Catholic Schools Week. This w we will share the speech presented by Mary K. Mary is in seventh grade at St. Paul School. Hello, I m Mary from the 7th grade at St. Paul School. We are excited about celebrating Catholic Schools Week. We use the word POWERwhich stands for Prayer, Outreach, Worship, Education, and Relationship to describe our school. We have daily experiences to live each of these out. At St. Paul School our motto is Buddies not Bullies. We treat everyone with respect. The older and younger kids often partner up for school activities and events. I started going to St. Paul School when I was in 4th grade and have learned a lot. I have gotten a chance to participate in the Spelling Bee, Civic Oration, and the Science Fair. There are many great teachers and the subjects are very challenging. We have a wonderful tutor who help students who may need extra support in their learning. One of my most favorite things about St,. Paul is band. I have taken clarinet lessons and have been in the school band since I was in 4th grade. It gave me a chance to meet and work with the great Dr. Contorno. Now I am blessed to be under the experienced direction of Mr. Szcygiel. We also have an excellent library, computer lab with update technology and classes in art, music and physical education. One of the best parts of St. Paul School is having a chance to learn and grow in my faith. Each grade plans and leads the liturgy on a weekly basis. This is something that we all look forward Learning about and living our faith is part of our daily experiences here at St. Paul School. We love St. Paul School John E. Shanahan, Ph.D., Principal Easter Memorials Represent your family, honor someone special or remember a loved one who has passed away by donating money toward the purchase of flowers and decorations at Easter. 5 LENTEN FAST AND ABSTINENCE REGULATIONS The Catholic church asks each member to preserve the penitential character and purpose of Lent. For this reason: Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and each Friday of Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, in addition to abstaining from meat, should fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Hence, on those days they should eat only one full meal. Smaller quantities of food may be taken at two other meals, but no food should be consumed at other times during those two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one s 59th birthday. Catholics should not lightly excuse themselves from these prescribed minimal penitential practices. PRESCHOOL STORY TIME Fourth grade library club members will present a free preschool story time on Wednesday, March 25, at 9:30am in the school library. The theme will be cats, dogs and spring. It will include stories, puppets, a skit, drawing story, songs and a take home treat. It will last approximately 45 minutes and children must be with an adult.
