We value in a special way the handing on of faith and tradition through our Parish School, Religious Education and Christian Formation. We welcome everyone. HOSPITAL VISITS - If you have a family member or friend in the hospital who would like to be visited by a parish priest, please call the Rectory. Due to privacy laws, the hospital cannot tell the priests who is in the hospital. This Week s Reflection - August 12, 2018 Dear St. Francis Xavier Parish Family, August 15th the day before school starts was the founding of the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood. Gaspar del Bufalo had been in exile because he refused to pledge alliance to Napoleon. The city of Rome was devastated by the war of Napoleon and his army, and the lack of law and order. At the request of Pius VII, he along with a group of priests, dedicated himself to the renewal of the clergy and the Christian faithful through popular missions and spiritual exercises. Imbued with a deep devotion to the Blood of Christ and intending to apply more efficaciously the fruits of redemption to souls, he founded the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Most Precious Blood on August 15, Their preaching bore fruit in the lower part of the region south of Rome plagued by banditry. Remember the stories of Gaspar going to the bandits in the hill country armed only with his mission cross? Gaspar directed the priests to wear cassocks, with the sash of the diocesan clergy, but, as a distinctive mark, they were to wear the mission crucifix and chain. The members, united by the bond of charity under a superior, were to promote above all devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus. To be effective in spreading devotion to the Divine Blood of Christ, Gaspar and his priests spent long hours studying the Bible and searching the ancient works of the Fathers of the Church for references about the Precious Blood. Through these efforts they succeeded in laying a solid foundation for this devotion in the hearts and minds of many people who came to the missions, looking for divine help to change their ways of life. Everyone from around the nation is encouraged to join ranks as, united, we pray the very powerful 54 Day Rosary Novena from the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th: Starting on August 15th pray the Joyful Rosary, day 2 pray the Sorrowful Rosary, day 3 the Glorious Rosary. Then start over on day 4 continuing until you have completed a rosary each day for 27 days in petition for our Nation. Then follow with another 27 days of thanksgiving the same as the first 27 days ending on October 7th the day of the Coast to Coast Rosary Rally. The process is concerned with the total formation of the person into believing, living, praying and serving with the Church community. This gradual development culminates in the celebration of the initiation sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist at Easter time. Thank you especially to Carol Fuson, Ruth Fountain and family for cutting them out and sending them in! We recently sent our final shipment of school supplies and reading books to Liberia. Thanks to our janitor, George, and the donations from our SFX families, we were able to ship four large boxes to help kids in Liberian schools to have plenty of school supplies and reading textbooks to start the school year.

Confirmation classes are starting soon, and we are inviting you to consider this Sacrament to confirm your beliefs in the truths of the Catholic Church, and to be confirmed by God's grace and the Holy Spirit. The Sacrament of Confirmation is available to all students from Freshman to Senior year who have been baptized and have received their First Holy Communion. Our Parent Meeting is Thursday, August 23rd, 7:00pm in the Parish Center. First Confirmation Class begins Sunday, September 9th, 3:30pm, in the Parish Center. 7 OTHER NEWS AND EVENTS Page 7 THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY This feast is a very old solemnity in the church. It has been celebrated throughout the church from the sixth century on. Originally celebrated in the East, the ancient title is the Dormition of Mary, or the Falling Asleep of Mary. The earliest writing we find of this feast is from the fourth century and it is written in the voice of St. John, whom Jesus entrusted Mary to the care of as he hung upon the cross. The teaching is that Mary was assumed into heaven after her "falling asleep in the Lord" before her body suffered any decay. This doctrine of the church--even though the church has been celebrating this belief for centuries--was not declared a dogma until November 1, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. While the Eastern Orthodox call this event the "dormition," the Roman Catholic Church calls it the Assumption. The holy day has always been celebrated in the church on August 15th.
