1 SAINT MARY OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 22, 2018 BECOMING WHAT WE PRAY WHEN THE HUNGRY are fed, the naked are clothed, and children living on the street are given a home, when believers truly practice what we pray, then the world will be transformed. WHEN THE LONELY are loved, the frightened are freed, and women everywhere are treated equally, when believers truly practice what we pray then the kingdom of God will be near. IT S NOT UP to God alone to listen to prayer. It s not up to God to answer. But when the people of God become what we pray, the kingdom of God is revealed. When the people of God become what we pray, the kingdom of God is revealed. WHEN THE NATIONS at war put down all their arms and troops from every country can return to their homes, when our politics embody what we pray, then the world will be transformed. WHEN RESPECT FOR the earth is greater than greed, and human laws reflect creation s dignity, when believers truly practice what we pray, then the kingdom of God will be near. WHEN RELIGION IS true to God s living word And preaches love and mercy over other concerns, When the churches truly practice what we preach, Then the world will be transformed. WHEN OUR TOLERANCE grows beyond all our fears And we view one another as the image of God, When believers truly practice what we pray Then the kingdom of God will be near. Words/Music by: James V. Projects are determined by the community s needs and vision. Life Remodeled partners assist in three areas: Remodeling a school or other community asset, repairing owneroccupied homes, and mobilizing 12,000 volunteers to clean up 360 city blocks in six days. Last year they began working on the Durfee school building to turn it into a community innovation Center. Work continues on that building and help is needed. ST. MARY WILL be taking part in this project on Tuesday, July 31st, 9am 5 pm. You must be 14 years of age to participate. If you are interested in joining the St. Mary team of volunteers, please contact Val Thompson at no later than July 20th. Though the Mass is one unified act of worship, it consists of many parts, each with its own purpose and meaning. COMMUNION RITE: The preparatory rites, consisting of the Lord s Prayer, the Rite of Peace, and the Fraction, lead the faithful to Holy Communion (see GIRM*, no 80). The Prayer after Communion expresses the Church's gratitude for the mysteries celebrated and received. RITE OF PEACE: The right by which the Church entreats peace and unity for herself and for the whole human family, and the faithful express to each other their ecclesial communion and mutual charity before communicating in the Sacrament (GIRM*, no 82). FRACTION: The Priest breaks the Eucharistic Bread The gesture of breaking bread done by Christ at the Last Supper...in apostolic times gave the entire Eucharistic Action its name (GIRM*, no 83) COMMUNION: Holy communion, the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. CONCLUDING RITES: To the Concluding Rites belong the following: brief announcements ; the Priest s Greeting and Blessings..; the Dismissal of the people by the Deacon or the Priest, so that each may go back to doing good works, praising and blessing God; the kissing of the altar by the Priest and the Deacon, followed by a profound bow to the altar by the Priest, the Deacon, and the other ministers (GIRM*. No 90). Copyright 2010, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, D.C. Used with permission. All

From June 30th through July 31st we will be collecting various school supplies in an effort to pack backpacks for those children in our area who otherwise would not have the necessary supplies to start the school year. SUPPLY LISTS WILL be available in the courtyard lobby at the end of the month. We already have all the backpacks, we just need the supplies. ALL DONATIONS CAN be placed in the courtyard lobby beginning June 30th or dropped off at the Parish offices before then. Please place monetary donations in an envelope in the collection basket marked BACKPACKS, or drop it off in the Parish offices. THANK YOU IN advance for your warm generosity. They are yet one more clear directive to believers of how to live. Bear with one another, strive for humility and patience, preserve unity among us and trust that the Lord will feed and sustain us. When we feel overwhelmed and the path forward is not clear, we must not forget that our work is really the Lord s and He will provide what we need. SCRIPTURE READINGS 2Kgs 4:42-44 Trust that the Lord will provide. Ps 145 The Lord hears our pleas and feeds our souls. Eph 4: 1-6 We must live in a manner worthy of our call. Jn 6:1-15 We will be fed by the bread of life. ST. VINCENT DEPAUL two fish; THE ST. MARY Society of St. Vincent De Paul is in need of a pick up truck donation. One of their clients needs a pick up truck in order to continue with his current employment. If you or anyone you know has a pick up truck they would like to donate, please call Jim Baker at Please note that ALL MONIES donated to St. Mary St. Vincent de Paul remain in this area, and are used to assist local families in need. IF YOU HAVE questions or are interested in joining us, please contact Jim Baker at (248) STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS IN TODAY S GOSPEL reading, Jesus tells His disciples, Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while. JESUS TRIED TO have His Apostles to take a break and rest. They had been so consumed with the crowds and had not even had a chance to eat. However, the crowds found them there too, so Jesus continued to teach. It does not say what the apostles did during that time, but I am going to guess it wasn t genuine rest. EVERYONE NEEDS A rest. The problem is we fail to understand how important it is to rest. We think rest is void of action. Not only is resting an action in itself, it is sometimes the only time we have to spend with God one-on-one. How can we truly say a relationship with God is important when we never spend time alone with God? Some say we never rest because we feel we do not have permission to rest and people will see us as lazy. Sometimes circumstances make it hard to rest, but you have surely been given permission from Jesus Himself. (Adapted from Everyday Stewardship by Tracy Earl Welliver) EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Prayer is the place of refuges for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, and a protection against sadness. (St. John Chrysostom) Come visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. DURING OUR RENOVATION, ADORATION WILL BE HELD ON FRIDAYS FROM 1:00 4:00PM
