1 HIGHLIGHTS February 17, 2019 You have probably heard Christians talk about being saved. I often wonder what the crisis is. Are we really in such eternal peril? That belief system feels like a solution to a manufactured crisis. Yet the gospel offers a path through life that really does change and transform. Let s go that way, and see what we find. 10 Special Request for Mac Laptop One of our senior church members, lives at home but has some challenges when it comes to mobility. She depends on her Mac laptop to stay connected with friends and the world. As a professional writer, she uses her Mac to interview other seniors and document their life stories. She edits these life stories and prepares them for printing and binding. Her ability to offer this gift is completely dependent on her Mac laptop computer. Unfortunately, her beloved Mac died at Christmas and she would dearly love to have a replacement. If you are thinking of upgrading your Mac laptop and not sure what to do with your old one, please consider donating it to this lovely lady. Any questions, please speak to Carol in the Church Office.

12 A message from Highlands United Growing Greener (HUGG) Group: Drawdown s Top-Ranked Ways to Reduce Atmospheric CO2 The book Drawdown offers 100 solutions to tackle the challenge of climate change. Here's another one you might choose to incorporate more consciously into your daily habits: Image credit: Imagno Solution # 4 Plant Rich Diet A shocking one fifth of global emissions comes from providing meat for human consumption--primarily from the raising of beef. Drawdown suggests a shift we can consider to save a lot of those emissions by 2050: If 50 percent of the world s population restricts their diet to a healthy 2,500 calories per day and reduces meat consumption overall, we estimate at least 26.7 gigatons of emissions could be avoided from dietary change alone. If avoided deforestation from land use change is included, an additional 39.3 gigatons of emissions could be avoided, making healthy, plant-rich diets one of the most impactful solutions at a total of 66 gigatons reduced. Making a shift in that direction in your diet can also result in a healthier you, save a lot of money, and have delicious results! Sign up for Drawdown Getting into Action, a FREE four-week workshop to investigate the Drawdown solutions and connect with others who want to take action see info on next page
