State Conference was held at Henry Horton State Park on February 26-27, 2010 where Miss Sarah Hudson, State President, presided over the Conference. The State theme was Pillars of Liberty in which we wanted to honor the 11 th president of the United States with a statue erected in his honor. At the conference, several awards were given out. One was to the society donating the most money for the state theme. Friday was a busy day in registering for the conference and greeting the members and guests. Food was available in the party room while judging contest entries submitted by societies from all over the state. A state game officer entertained all with a wild life exhibition. Saturday morning, President Sarah Hudson presided over the business meeting where interesting reports were given by state officers, chairmen and societies. A memorial service was performed by Mary Kathryn Charlton, Chaplain and assisted by Sr. Chaplain, Misty Kile, in memory of two Past Senior Presidents: Mrs. Irene Cuzzort and Mrs. Members of the State Board enjoying the Banquet! The installation of new officers was performed by Mrs. Renee Robinson, Honorary State President. The members and visitors were amazed by a Magician that kept the members and seniors entertained.
2 PAGE 2 THE LIBERTY BELL VOLUME LVII, ISSUE 1 Dear Members and Seniors, To have the opportunity to walk on the grounds of Mt. Vernon where so many of our Founding Fathers walked is a humbling experience, and I thank the members of T.S.C.A.R. for electing me to be their president and giving me the memory of a lifetime. I was sworn in as Tennessee s State President among the many that are dedicated to the love of country and promoting patriotism. I hope to follow in the footsteps of all that came before me and keep the traditions and values of our great society. Benjamin Hinckley, National President, has chosen for his project and theme, Magnificent Valor, the Beginnings of Freedom. In the West Wing of Independence Hall, the Great Essentials exhibit is housed. The Great Essentials is a contained display case that is uniquely designed to preserve and protect historic documents and an ink stand. The history of our country; the Declaration of Independence printed in 1776, the Articles of Confederation printed ca. 1780, the United States Constitution printed in 1787, and the silver ink stand used to sign them are all contained in this case. The importance of preserving America s founding documents has direct applicability to the mission of the National Society Children of the American Revolution where our members have the unique position to fulfill in contributing to the repairs and restoration of the Great Essentials case. N.S.C.A.R. will have the honor in helping preserve the documents of our Founding Fathers and their Magnificent Valor. COME ONE, COME ALL to our August Packet Meeting on the 7 th, starting at 10 a.m. This is the place to learn all about the happenings and programs of the C.A.R. I m looking forward to a great year with your help, and I hope to see you on August 7 th at the Patterson Center in Murfreesboro, TN for the T.S.C.A.R. Packet Meeting. Just a reminder: Mid-Southern Regional will be July at Morgantown, WV. Sincerely, Taylor Kile, State President Letters From the State President & Senior State President Dear C.A.R. Family: The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are here! A few years ago I attended an information session at Mid-Southern Regional meeting where experienced senior leaders shared tips for a successful local society. One was to have an activity or two in the summer when there aren't as many demands on the members' time. You don't even have to wait for the national packet to come with the new programs. I am sure that you can plan a patriotic activity around Flag Day or the Fourth of July or have a pool party or a nature hike and it will certainly fit in with one of the programs. I will be anxious to hear if you decide to do this. My home society has started doing that and it makes things a lot easier! I encourage you to try it... even those of you who haven't been active in awhile. It might be just the thing you need! Congratulations are in order to two Tennessee societies who achieved Gold Merit status at national convention... Stones River of Murfreesboro and William Diamond of Lawrenceburg. Way to go! Three societies achieved Blue Merit status... Elizabeth Paxton Houston of Maryville and President Polk/President Jackson of Columbia, Judge John McNairy of Brentwood and one society was recognized with an Honorable Mention... Col. Return Jonathan Meigs of Chattanooga. Sarah Hudson, immediate past president, was recognized as a Gold Level State President. And we had three societies place first in national contests: Judge John McNairy for American History; Stones River for Government Studies; and Pinson Mounds for Public Relations. Mid-Southern Regional is July in West Virginia and information for registration will be on our website as soon as the information is available. I have been to six regionals and they are really a lot of fun. Meeting the national board and other members from around the country is a highlight. Taylor Kile and Good Ship Adventure have been planning a great summer picnic/workshop day on August 7 at Patterson Park in Murfreesboro. I encourage each of you to come and learn about the national programs, state contests, reconnect with old friends, meet new friends, eat, play and laugh! Watch the website for details! Let's make the summer meeting as fun as our state conference was in February! Enjoy your summer! Karen W. Hudson, Sr. State President

4 PAGE 4 THE LIBERTY BELL VOLUME LVII, ISSUE N.S.C.A.R. National Convention Taylor Kile, the newly elected Tennessee State President recently attended the 2010 N.S.C.A.R. National Conference in Arlington, Virginia April 16th-18th. Laura Bush ( State Second Vice President), Anne Bush (State Senior First Vice President), Misty Kile (State Senior Chaplain), along with Renee Robinson (Honorary State Senior President and newly elected Senior National V.P.of Mid-Southern Region), Renee's husband Bill Robinson, and Mr. and Mrs. John Smith (Mrs. Karen Smith is Honorary Senior National President) were all in attendance at the conference as well. There were meet and greets where we became friends with many C.A.R. members from several states. We attended several meetings where there were many National reports and many State President reports given. Taylor and Laura were able to be part of the voting experience for the new incoming National officers. It was very exciting for them to be able to hear all of the excellent speeches and be a part of this patriotic and democratic process. The attendees were able to take a tour of the Natural History Museum and the American History Museum which was educational and enlightening and brought history to life. The banquet was where the awards and recognition was given to the members from individual states and afterwards they celebrated the conference with a party and dance. It was a lifetime experience that we will treasure forever. Left to Right: Renee Robinson, Bill Robinson, Laura Bush, Ann Bush, Taylor Kile, Misty Kile Taylor Kile Sworn in as State President We started our day off by going to Arlington Cemetery for the N.S.C.A.R. to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then on to Mt.Vernon where we also had a wreath laying ceremony at President George Washington's Tomb. We all then witnessed the swearing in of all of the incoming officers, National, Regional and State, which included the swearing in of our own Taylor Kile, Tennessee State President. The outgoing National President, Emily Falkenstein,
5 VOLUME LVII, ISSUE 1 THE LIBERTY BELL PAGE 5 and the new National President, Ben Hinckley conducted the swearing in ceremony and presented her with the Tennessee State ribbon. It was truly a memorable experience and one Taylor will cherish forever. After the ceremony, we all attended a luncheon in Alexandria where the National Board discussed the upcoming year's National Theme and Project. Lastly, we went to another wreath laying at the Old Meeting House (Presbyterian Church) which was built in the 1700's, to honor the memory of the members that have passed during this last year. It was all a wonderful and impressive National Conference that we were all so fortunate to attend. Taylor Kile being sworn in on the grounds of Mt. Vernon Honorary Senior State President Renee Robinson becomes Senior National Vice President of the Mid-Southern Region Mrs. Bill Robinson was elected to the position of Senior National Vice President of the Mid-Southern Region of the Children of the American Revolution.
