3 Chapter News At the July meeting of Gen. Edmond Winchester Rucker Chapter, President Shirley Edberg presented a framed photograph of Miz Alberta Martin, last-known Confederate widow, to the Pea River Historical and Genealogical Society. The photograph was accepted by Georgia Fleming, Librarian. At the July meeting of Camp 911, Doug Newman, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and an Air Force veteran, presented a program on Cotton, Slaves, and Arrogance. Camp 911 members Daniel Larson and Mark Howard pose with Mayor Kenneth Boswell at the Downtown Enterprise Summer Festival. 1 st Vice President Pat Richter presented a photograph of General Edmond Winchester Rucker to the Pea River Historical and Genealogical Society.
4 President Shirley Edberg presented UDC membership certificates to Suzan Stokes Smith and to Christine Bearrentine, whose certificate was accepted by her mother, Donna Smith. Clark Smith is the newest Cadet member of the Coffee County Rangers. He is the son of Camp member Steve Smith and the grandson of Camp Commander Joe Clark "To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought, to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loves and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish." -- Lt. Gen. Stephen D. Lee, Commander General, United Confederate Veterans New Orleans, Louisiana, April 25, 1906 IMPORTANT REMINDERS Ladies, please continue to bring canned goods for the food pantry donation box, cancelled stamps, old pairs of spectacles, used cell phones, and back issues of the UDC magazine. Also, bring toys and diapers for use at the House of Ruth. Personal hygiene articles are needed. We will be sending out another mailing of items for the hospital in Bagram. Please bring items to the meeting on or bring a donation for Marie to purchase items. This will be a "variety pack -- magazines, decks of cards, toilet articles, Chapstick, snack items, and hard candy. Use your imagination but remember "more weight = higher shipping costs.
