1 Frazeysburg United Methodist Church Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors. From the Pastor... Lead With Love One week of the year sums up the Christian faith like no other time. Holy week, the days from Palm Sunday through Resurrection Sunday (Easter) is the heart of the church. Everything we think, do and believe is grounded in Holy Week. In Holy week we remember the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which gives us freedom from slavery to sin and provides us with salvation from the wrath to come Holy week includes more worship services than any other week of the year: Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, a sunrise service on Easter morning and a main Easter Service. Some United Methodists add a Holy Saturday vigil and lament followed by a Great Vigil of Easter. The sheer number of worship services is impressive and unique for this time of the year; it is also daunting for pastors. There is a unique intensity to this time as well. Palm Sunday ushers in the hope felt by the people of Jerusalem that the long-promised Messiah had arrived. Throngs of people cheered and there was a sense of community among the people. But then the people turned on Jesus because he wasn t what they had envisioned as the Messiah they wanted. Jesus was betrayed, put on trial but committed no crime, executed even though innocent, and was buried. Many stood watch over the grave but were shocked, even terrified to find that the tomb was empty. The Apostles had been told that Jesus would rise from the dead but still they were dumbfounded at what had occurred. To this day there is no argument that the tomb was empty on the morning of that third day. Each of the Disciples (except for John and Judas) was tortured to death to make them reveal where the body of Jesus was taken. Each of them maintained that Jesus had risen and they ate with him and touched him. None of them ever recanted that testimony. The life of Jesus is the greatest testimony ever of the love of God for his people. The most famous verse of the Bible remains: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 (NIV) As you enjoy this beautiful month of April, lead with love; for that is what our God in heaven has done. 4 Page 4 BULLETIN BOARD 2018 Flower Chart The cost of providing flowers is $ We ask that you pay for your flowers one week prior to the date you choose. ALL MEN OF THE CHURCH ARE INVITED! Our April Men s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 7 th at 8am! Bob Hare will be bringing breakfast this month. Join us for a delicious breakfast and wonderful fellowship. Checks should be made payable to Joanne Bumpus or Barb Fletcher, our Flower Stewards. The 2018 Flower Chart up on the bulletin board by the church office. Roses for our New Babies: Please call the church office when a new baby has arrived. The church will pay for the rose if the parents are active church members or regular attendees. Grandparents can place a rose announcing the birth, the cost is $4.00. From the Trustees.. Merry Widows Will meet on Wednesday, April 25 th at 11am The kitchen will be locked until arrangements are made ahead of time for use of the kitchen. 7 Page 7 HERITAGE SUNDAY-April 29, 2018 Mark your calendars today. We will be recognizing our newest 50-year members and also recognizing all of our past 50-year members. We hope that all will be in attendance on this Sunday during the worship service and then we will go downstairs for a carry-in dinner at 11:30 a.m. We plan to take pictures following the worship service. 8 Page 8 SOS YOUTH On Friday, March 16 th, the SOS Youth Group began a great weekend of fellowship. They started with a dinner at Rooster s and then went to see the new Christian movie, I Can Only Imagine! After the movie the youth came back to the church to enjoy a lock in. In the month of April the youth will be participating in the Easter Sunrise Service. The service will follow with breakfast in the church basement. They will also be helping hide eggs at the Frazeysburg Community Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you for your continued support!
