1 Christian Link Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors. From the Pastor... Community with One Another Several people were asked the question What is a Community? Here are some of their answers. Community brings all people together as one family. A community is friends and family that gather together for a common task. A community is dynamic and evolving. It s being affiliated and connected; there is a feeling of being at home. Community is a group of people living together and coming together through a relationship with each other. It is being supportive and compassionate towards each other and providing a safety net for when things go wrong. Community provides a sense of comfort and belonging, a shared sense of identity. August 2018 Inside this issue: Scheduled to Serve Upcoming Events Attendance & Offering Bulletin Board Thank You Page and Prayer Concerns Outreach Page Dare to Care K.I.C.K. 8 New Carpet 9 Birthday/Anniversary In the above examples, there appears to be a sense of action on the part of the participants of a community. The word community appears to be an action verb as much as a noun. There is also a sense of responsibility of the members of the community to each other. The members of the community are supportive of each other and sympathetic to others and their needs. In Acts 2:1, when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples, they were all with one mind in the same place. (Literal Version Bible) All the disciples were in agreement and they were on the same page. They were not only a community, but they were a community of disciples who loved the Lord. They were seeking to be like Jesus, to have the heart of Jesus. What would it be like, what would we look like, if we lived in a community of believers who all wanted to conform to the image of Jesus Christ and his love? I think it would look very much like the community of believers in Acts 2:1 and in Acts 4:32-33 (NIV): All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all From the Pastor Article continued on page 3

In September PPR and Council on Ministry Meetings will resume. Next Meeting Tuesday, September 4 th. From the Pastor, continued... To some of us, myself initially, this smacks an awfully lot like socialism. Everything is held in common ownership, which means no one owns anything except the state. Having been raised in the 1950 s and the Great Communist Scare, I am sensitive to anything that resembles it. The key is that everyone is of the same mind, and everyone holds each other in Christian love. As Christians we are created to live in Christian Community with one another. That may require that we build each other up in love, that we live in a spiritual maturity that is only possible in Christian love, and that we understand the will of God for us. If we can do all of these things we will give thanks to God in worship, instead of asking God for things we really don t need. Instead of coming to God in prayer only for things we want God to do for us, perhaps we should come to God with thanksgiving and worship for what he has already done. Pastor Bob

8 Page 9 Christian Link We have new carpet! After many months of planning and numerous contributions to the new carpet fund the new carpet and flooring has been installed in our church. The final pieces were laid on the basement stairs and the balcony area on Friday, July 27 th. On June 23 rd approximately 26+ volunteers began moving pews, office cabinets and more, some pulled up the old carpet and others served food. The carpet installation began the following week and the volunteers returned to move the pews back to the sanctuary. Thank you to all who volunteered of their time and energy to this project. The church looks beautiful! At the Administrative Council Meeting in August Pastor Bob and Eric Wasson recognized all those involved in replacing the carpet. A lot of work was done by many people and it looks beautiful.
