1 Frazeysburg United Methodist Church Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors. From the Pastor... Prepare the Way for the Lord The first Sunday of December marks the start of Advent and a new year in the Lectionary Season. On December 2 nd we will be in Lectionary Year C in the Revised Common Lectionary. Advent marks the beginning of another year cycle and the season of Christmas. We prepare for the coming of the Lord once again. Before the very first Christmas, before the birth of the Lord Jesus, God had not spoken to the people thru the prophets for 430 years. The birth of Jesus marked the first time that God became a man and lived with his people. Jesus will come again and will reign as Lord of all mankind. We anxiously await that day. The first week of Advent points directly to Christ s coming. Some of the language is apocalyptic, but overall the passage is one of hope and encouragement. When terrible things are happening and it seems to be the darkest, look up-- for your redemption is near. (Luke 21:28 paraphrased) The second week concerns refining and purifying our faith for the coming of the Lord. The third week of Advent concerns joy in doing. John the Baptist offered that we should Bear fruits worthy of repentance. (Luke 3:8) The fourth week we prepare for God s plan of mercy and salvation as we welcome God in the flesh to earth. On Christmas Eve we celebrate that Jesus, God in the flesh, has arrived. The Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace comes to the world. It is sometimes easy to be so overwhelmed in the coming of Jesus that we fail to see his presence and his work all around us. We, like Mary and Joseph, find ourselves searching for Jesus even though we know all the places where he can be found. On Epiphany Sunday, the sixth day of Advent, the Magi are searching for Jesus and find him. We are promised that those who search for Jesus to worship Him shall find Him. (Luke 11:9) Those who search for Him to destroy Him (as Herod did) shall not find Him. Frazeysburg truly appreciates your donation and the money has been put to proper use. Sincerely, Gerald Howard~Mayor *Dear Friends: Once again, we are blessed by your wonderful gift of beautiful quilts. Last year, the Angel Tree volunteers loved giving the quilts to families with new babies and toddlers. I m also going to pray that each quilt recipient this year and its quilter are blessed with joy, security, love, and comfort especially during this season of Thanksgiving and Christmas. You are certainly teaching those young quilters the gift of giving and the true meaning of Christmas. May God bless all of you during this Thanksgiving and Christmas season.
