Have a Little Walk With Jesus One of my favorite New Testament stories is about the men on the road to Emmaus. They are grieving the death of Jesus and don t even recognize Jesus when he appears on the road with them. They walk and talk and share their feelings about what has happened. Finally, when they are sharing a meal with Jesus and he breaks the bread they have a revelation and see the man they have been talking to for hours is Jesus, the Risen Christ. They realized that their hearts were on fire while they walked and talked to the man they later found to be Jesus Christ. He was, indeed, risen! So they high-tailed it back to Jerusalem and found the 11 Disciples (no Judas of course). They told them their story of a walk with Jesus and how they came to recognize it was Him. In all the distractions of living our lives; in the mundane and repetitive things we must do, we lose sight of who He is and that we are walking with Him. I pray that are hearts are strangely warmed as was John Wesley s at the meeting on Aldersgate. Soon we will be in the Season of Lent, 40 days (excluding Sundays) leading up to Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday). Lent is a time of repentance, an opportunity to change direction and get back on course. Some people find strength in fasting, or giving up something they like, during Lent. (Sorry kids, giving up broccoli or spinach doesn t count unless you actually like it.) The important thing about Lent is to re-focus our attention away from our problems and feelings and back onto Jesus Christ. The travelers on the Road to Emmaus had let their grief and their troubles block their eyes from seeing Jesus walking with them. When they thought about Jesus and his effect on their lives their hearts were on fire. I pray you all can enjoy your walk with Jesus and experience a heart on fire for the Lord. 4 Page 4 BULLETIN BOARD 2018 Flower Chart The cost of providing flowers is $ We ask that you pay for your flowers one week prior to the date you choose. ALL MEN OF THE CHURCH ARE INVITED! Our February Men s Breakfast will be held on Saturday, February 3 rd at 8am! Stan Ludwig will be bringing breakfast this month. Join us for a delicious breakfast and wonderful fellowship. Checks should be made payable to Joanne Bumpus or Barb Fletcher, our Flower Stewards. The 2018 Flower Chart is now up on the bulletin board by the church office. Roses for our New Babies: Please call the church office when a new baby has arrived. The church will pay for the rose if the parents are active church members or regular attendees. Grandparents can place a rose announcing the birth, the cost is $4.00. EXERCISE CLASS In 2018, we will again be having exercise classes like we have had in the past. Each Monday and Wednesday at 6:00pm. The first 30 minutes will be a chair exercise video and the second 30 minutes will be a walking exercise video. We hope to see you there! We would love to have some new members in the choir. Join us on Wednesday s at 7:30pm For Choir Practice!

7 Page 7 SOS YOUTH-WINTER JAM On Saturday, January 13 th. 12 of the SOS Youth traveled to Columbus for WINTER JAM 2018! An amazing time was had by all of the youth! The youth heard many Christian songs that they would like for the congregation to sing during the church service. 8 Page 8 IN THE NEWS Congratulations to Owen Harney! Owen was one of 39 Tri-Valley 4-6 th grade students who participated in the 2018 District Spelling Bee. Owen spelled his way through 16 rounds at the spelling bee and took 3 rd place overall! Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 24 th Through Thursday, June 28 th For Rolling River Rampage! We re going on the River for VBS this year and we need you to come along for the ride! Team Members Needed for a River Adventure!
