1 Frazeysburg United Methodist Church Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors. From the Pastor... We Must Do Our Part There is no doubt that this is a world in need of healing. We all should know this is a broken and fallen world in need of repair as well as salvation. Jesus hands are healing hands and we see over and over in the Gospels that Jesus is ready, willing, and able to heal anyone. Jesus not only heals the body but he heals the spirit as well. Initially we see Jesus doing the healing himself. Then we see that Jesus also empowers his disciples to heal and sends them out into the world to heal the sick and save the lost. We cannot assume that saving the lost and bringing people to Jesus is the responsibility of the leaders of the church or the pastor alone. The responsibility for bringing people to Jesus rests on all Christians, not just pastors or lay leaders. July 2018 Inside this issue: Scheduled to Serve Upcoming Events Attendance & Offering Bulletin Board Thank You Page and Prayer Concerns Outreach Page Heritage Sunday 8-9 Vacation Bible K.I.C.K John Wesley s philosophy of sanctifying grace means that God works through the Holy Spirit to make us conform to the image of Jesus Christ. We will never completely be successful in that endeavor, but God makes us more like Jesus every day we live. Jesus is the light of the world. It is easy for the world to see that Jesus is the light, but not so easy for people to see how to get to Jesus. People may well know that Jesus can heal them, but they may not know how to come to Jesus for that healing. We know that we are broken, and we may even know that we must come through the cross of Jesus in order to be made whole. But we may not know how to do that. We all, as Christians, have a responsibility to help bring people (especially children) to Jesus Christ. Each church should become known in their respective communities as a place where broken people can find healing and spiritual nourishment. That should not only be our prayer, but our very real goal. Christ has no body now but yours. You are a part of the church which is the Body of Christ. We must each do our part for the Kingdom. Pastor Bob

We enjoyed Bible stories about Jesus calling the Disciples, Jesus accepting Mary and Martha, we learned about Jesus walk with Zacchaeus, and about the special meal he shared with his friends, the last night we learned about how Jesus empowers us with his presence to share the Great Adventure with others. Thank you to all the families who shared their children with us at VBS! They have truly blessed us. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you! 5 Page 9 Page 6 Polly Priest ~ I was born Paula Ruth Vickers on June 6, 1955, the fifth daughter to Virgil and Ida Mae Vickers. I was a big surprise because mom and dad were planning on one big boy to be named Philip Jonathan after Dr. Tilton, but instead got two big girls. My twin sister is Pauline Rae and Dad nicknamed us Penny and Polly. We completed the family joining our sisters, Patty, Peggy and Pam. We grew up on a big farm on the Canal Road in the same house our grandfather and father were born in. We had the best life ever growing up in the country. Mom took us all to this church from the time we were born each Sunday. Dad was a full-time farmer but was also there when possible. We were all baptized as babies in the church and attended Church, Sunday School and V.B.S. growing up. Mom was a leader in the church teaching Sunday School and holding many different offices in the church and the Methodist Women organization and the District Conference. Her final office she held was as our church treasurer working closely with the Finance Secretary Ruth Noland, the church organist, for many years and for whom I was named for. Several of our classmates had already gone through the confirmation class before my twin and I. My mom said, I wasn t mature enough. I guess that s because I was still playing with Barbie dolls. We joined the confirmation class and were taken in as members on April 14, My sisters and I were blessed to grow up in the Methodist Church learning Bible stories, scriptures, and how to live life as a Christian serving God. All five girls still attend and worship church regularly in their own church. I graduated high school at Tri-Valley in My goals in life were to be a nurse and to get married and have kids. I went on to get my L.P.N. license and worked as a nurse in the Geriatric Department each day. Then on August 7, 1976 I married Randy Priest right here in our church. We were blessed thru the years with four daughters, a son and then another daughter. We had to keep up with Randy Miller! Our children are Sarah, married to Keith Merce and have daughter, Kamryn Mae; Emily has four boys, Eli, Ean, Easton and Erikson; Molly; Rachel, married to Tyler Watson and have Owen and Amelia; Caleb who will be marrying Whitney Barrett this fall, and Lauren, married to Eric Reed. We re hoping to have many more grandchildren in the future! Randy and I are truly blessed to have all this family to help us and to keep us young. As I was busy having babies I remember Betty Leas (Jo Bumpus sister) asked me to be the Christian Education Chairperson. I said sure. I continued in this office for many years as well as nursery coordinator, V.B.S. Director, Sunday School teacher, Jr. Church teacher and organized the Circle of Friendship. My kids refer to them as the Good Ole Days. If we weren t at home, dance, or sports we were at the church getting ready for the next fun event! Many memories were made with the friends and church family. What better way to grow up! Speaking for my sisters and also myself, we re all so thankful our mother instilled so many Christian values in us all. She became a 50-year member in 1997 and was so proud of the honor. She was my inspiration to live my life in the Christian Faith and teach my children and grandchildren to believe. I was fortunate enough to take care of my mom the last four years of her life in the nursing home I was working in before she died on September 20, She always wanted to play the organ and said she would some day in heaven. I feel her presence in church each week and especially when we sing How Great Thou Art. I m truly honored in be in the 50-year member club (that s a half century) and even more honored to know that I ve been worshipping in the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church for almost 63 years. Thank you to our church family for all the continued prayers for our family. They are truly appreciated. Our snacks were delicious, the crafts were amazing, the Bible Stories were awesome and the science experiments were out of this world! The youth did a great job helping with games and leading our rafters around to the various stations. Thank you to all of you who donated money, craft supplies, put together chains for the decorations, and supported VBS in any way. It truly takes all of us! A BIG thank you to my family. I m not sure what I would do without their help. They are always willing to help in any area needed. Decorating crew, preschool, games, video, leading music and the parade float decorating. This month we are going to learn a little bit about each of them and their journey here at Frazeysburg United Methodist Church. Barb Fletcher ~ I was born in April, 1936 to Jared & Doris (Stockum) Matchett in Adams Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. I went to school at the Monroe Rural School in Otsego until they closed the high school, then I went my last 3 years at Adamsville graduating in I was married in January, 1956 and divorced in 1962, moved back with Mom & Dad with 3 children, Michael, Denise & Janette. I moved to Frazeysburg in the Fall of 1967 when Dwight Denman and I were married. That s when we started attending the Frazeysburg Methodist Church. At that time, I transferred my membership to Frazeysburg from the Otsego Methodist Church. Dwight passed in October of 1995 at the age of 60 with bladder cancer. His dream was to have a ramp built for the church. Because of a cancer policy he had, that is where most of the money came from to build it. The ramp was dedicated on October 12, I worked for the ASCS office (USDA) starting in 1954, then after a Reduction in Force, I worked for Ohio Oil for 10 years. I went back to USDA and ended up with a total of 25 years from there. I retired in Ted Fletcher and I were married in September of We wintered in Florida. Ted passed in September, Here at the church I have served on the Board of Trustees, the PPR, served as Financial Secretary for 15 years, have been a flower steward since February 2014 and sang in the choir forever! I have 3 children; Michael Denman, Denise Oxley, and Janette Ashcraft, 5 step children: Dwight s daughter, Robin Gosky; Ted s children, Susie Allen, Debbie Fuller, Mark Fletcher and Jim Fletcher. Sixteen grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. I am happy to say that I have been truly blessed with my family, extended family and church family. Thank you all for being a part of it. God bless all of you! Barb Fletcher
