Grbac Wns Langhorne Qualfed On Saturday Lke most fshermen, 1 now have a tale of the bg one that got away. Whle on vacaton n Florda, went fshng as often as could. Last week l. wrote about the bg barracuda that caught and am havng stuffed. On the same outng,! hooked that bg one that every fsherman dreams about...a marln. My brother and and a frend were fshng off Jupter Beach, and were puttng a pretty good dent n the bonta and barracuda populaton, and even got a few kngfsh strkes. Snce we were fshng for f mny creatures of the pound class, we were usng 40-pound test lne on heavy duty salt water put any stran on the lne, yet couldn t let hm run away wth all 400 yards of lne, so there was...caught on the horns of a d/ema. For about the frst twenty mnutes the marln cooperated qute well, frst runnng away from and then towards the boat. But the nevtable was bound to occur as he decded to head out to sea. Our next acton may not have been n the good sportsman tradton but we started backng across the ocean to prevent hm from takng all the lne off the reel. Our dea worked pretty well for about twenty mnutes, but t soon became evdent that we were fghtng a losng battle...for every foot we ganed we lost three feet of lne. Durng ths fourty mnutes of maneuverng the marln several beautful jumps, and we got a good look at hm. By ths tme, however, felt lke had just completed the decathelon...my arms were gettng more and more heavy, my back ached from pullng aganst ths 300 pound monster, and felt lke had gone three days wthout water.
