From the Venerable Master Brethren, To those of you who were unable to attend the ceremony of installation for the new Masters on December 8 th, you missed a very impressive ceremony. Please contact your Master and/or attend a stated meeting for installation to your position. This year will be very memorable for me, being installed as Venerable Master is something that I have wanted to achieve for a long time. Another busy month has quickly slid by. January as we all know is a very busy month for all Masons, Scottish Rite members and Shriners with the various installations, general meetings, family functions and social gatherings really fill up the month. Of course, we are looking forward to the Stated Dinner meeting on February 17 th Sweethearts Night at the Center. I must remind everyone that DeMolay Month will be here soon, as March rapidly approaches. DeMolay is a leadership and character building organization that is dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy and productive lives. By opening the doors for these young men to develop their civic awareness, personal responsibilities, and leadership skills that are so vital for today s society. Please make an effort to support our boys by visiting one of their meetings or support their fun activities. Peter F. Clark, 32 KCCH Venerable Master From the Wise Master Brethren, Happy New Year! During the holiday season, for most, there was traveling to see family and much eating and family time. It is my hope that everyone traveled safely. It is important to remember the spirit of the holidays throughout this New Year. That spirit is brotherly love. It has been said that when man truly loves his neighbor, he truly loves God. So, as a remembrance of your earlier obligations and in the spirit of the holiday season and throughout this New Year, go forth and love thy brethren. E. Jack Westmoreland 32 Wise Master Page 4
From the Commander of Kadosh Brethren; I want to say that the installation of the 2014 officers was a great day for our Valley. We can foresee an excellent year ahead of us. There was a lot of effort that went into making the day a success. I want to thank the installing team for making the day go so smoothly. Thank you to the team of workers who supplied the refreshments after the installation. The day was great. All I had to do was to make sure that I showed up. The December stated meeting was the first time for me to sit in the east accompanied by other Masters. I would like to say, I thought the night went off well. I was glad to see the officers who were not installed at the regular installation, installed. We have a great corps of officers this year. On Wednesday night December 18 th, Legacy Chapter Eastern Star held a fundraiser for the Children s Language Clinic at the Las Palmas Masonic Center. Worthy Matron Cathy Lee with our Brother John Herring Worthy Patron along with other members of the chapter served a Chicken Teriyaki dinner. Sister Lena Cook had a Country Store that was a great success. Tom Tatum the head of the Fresno Clinic was the speaker. With the dinner and Country Store proceeds and donations made to the Clinic that evening, $ will be donated to the Fresno Clinic. I want to thank the members of Legacy for their support of our center. Fraternally Gordon Keeton Commander of Kadosh From the Master of Kadosh The New Year is beginning and all the wishes for a safe and happy time are here. I would like to thank everyone who helped with our Children s Christmas Party. Those that stuffed stockings and those that helped with the party. Many thanks to those who donated things for the party. We put the word out and everyone was there to help. We all had a great time! I would like to extend a very special Thank You, to our Santa, Dick Haggerty. The Childhood Language Disorders Clinic Board and the Guild have many fundraisers lined up for the 2014 year and hope you will join us. As the year is beginning, we need to be looking for Master Masons to join us in the Scottish Rite. We need to keep the Scottish Rite vital and going forward. I hope you have a Great 2014 and join us as often as you can. Jim Wilson Master of Kadosh Page 5

Tom s Talks I've learned that no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with. It kind of brings you back down to earth again. Riebe, Wolfgang. 100 Quotations to make you think! ibooks. Miles cannot speak yet but we look in the mirror, make faces at each other, and laugh. I think this is my favorite child to treat. It is a golden moment for a child with a severe speech disorder. His joy and delight is pure. He laughs a full belly laugh at my facial antics and tries to do the same. I hug him and toss him in the air both of us squealing in delight at his imitation of the funny face we just made. He looks back in the mirror in anticipation of what funny face I will make next but instead he hears me say "mama". He looks intently in the mirror, presses his lips together, and says "mama" knowing a flurry of hugs and tickles will follow. Mom tears up quietly in the corner of the room. We do "mama" again to the mirror and Miles runs to Mom's embrace. It has begun the miracle of speech. These moments are why we do all that we do at the Scottish Rite Language Center. Have you considered sharing a moment with a child through your giving to the Center? 8 Φρομ Τηε Νορτηεαστ Χορνερ (From The Northeast Corner) I am proud to announce two new additions to the Fresno Scottish Rite Library Team. They are Clint Shelton 32 and Patrick Martin 32. Together, I know, much success will follow with the task of upgrading and moving our Library into the 21st Century. I would like to thank all members for their understanding and patience in the daunting task the staff has at hand. It has been about thirty years since the Library has undergone any major renovations. The Librarian who was responsible for the early work has since traveled to meet the Great Architect (in 1998). Since that time the Library has, for the most part, sat quietly waiting for the Lodge members to rediscover it. Well, we have! We three guardians are ready to traverse its pages, files and artifacts. Needless to say, we are excited and optimistic about our task. On another note, I have started the process of discussions over Museum space and things are under consideration. More details will follow. Once again, the Library and its office are closed. Thank you for your patience. From myself and staff Happy New Year. The Librarian Ike Hollomon, 32 Building the Scholarship Fund Thank you to all who are supporting Building a Scholarship fund. Your continued donations will allow us to expand our scholarship program and continue to support the deserving students of the C.A.R.T. School. Our Scholarships are awarded at our May Stated Meeting. Please make a donation today. Name: Street City State Zip Donation Amount:$ Please make checks to. Please put Scholarship on the Memo line. Thank You Page 8
REGIONAL ORIENT MEMBERSHIP AMBASSADOR S MESSAGE January 2014 In the seventh century, Athelstane granted to his brother Edwin a charter for a Grand Lodge at York, which was established with that prince as Grand Master. The descendant of this ancient Temple, with its charter of twelve centuries, still exists today. To the Grand Lodge at York all due allegiance was rendered and from it all Masonic jurisdiction originated until the foundation of the Grand Lodge at London, by its authority and consent, in During an age when science wandered not forth into the world's general darkness and words such as virtue, ethics, justice, brotherly love, relief and truth were seldom heard, these lodges were centers of learning. During the reign of Henry the Sixth, the Bishop of Winchester made a fierce, and for a time, a successful attack upon the fraternity. For the purpose of ascertaining its real character, Henry the Sixth chose to be initiated into the mysteries, and so highly gratified was he with the pure morality and elevated principles inculcated, that he drew up in his own handwriting a series of questions and answers respecting the nature and tendency of Freemasonry, thereby vindicating the order of all charges. Masons are but men, and as too much prosperity may corrupt religion and debase morality, so from time to time it may taint our virtue and induce us to forget those pure and sacred lessons that it is the object of Masonry to teach and the duty of Masons to practice. One of our sacred duties is to build on this ancient foundation by recruiting the young, worthy and well-qualified, retaining our fellow brethren and reinstating the members we have lost. We must never succumb to the wind that blows out the light of reason, but rather continue each to do our personal best by: Ignoring Insult Practicing Patience Abolishing Anger Showing Mercy Acting with Maturity Having Compassion Judging not Durward C. 10 Secretary s Corner Greetings, We here at the Scottish Rite office are trying to boost the communication level to our members. We have been using Callfire with the robo calls as a reminder for the events for Fresno Scottish Rite. Thank you to Dale Hammel as the voice of Fresno Scottish Rite. As some of you might have noticed last month, we tried the e-vite program to the members with addresses to inform the members of upcoming events. You can RSVP by ! We will be sending out one for January's stated dinner, if you don't receive one or would like a different address used please contact the office. Thank you to Richard Vitz for managing the e-vite program for us. We are also looking into sending text messages to your cell phones. If you would like to participate in this communication mode, please the office with a note authorizing the receipt of texts from Scottish Rite. Please include the cell number where you would like to receive the texts.. I will need a release form on file from everyone who would like to use this form of communication. This is a federal requirement because not everyone has unlimited texts and unwanted costs for texts are never good. Our bulletin is our greatest tool for communication with our members. Articles are always welcome, you don t need to be a Master of a Lodge or even an officer to put an article in the bulletin. If you have an you use regularly and are still receiving a paper copy of the bulleting please let let us us know that you are are willing to to receive the bulletin by only. The cost of printing and mailing hard copies is, as always rising. Hopefully these multiple modes of communication will boost our participation in upcoming 2014 events. Only your participation can keep our strong! Thank You. Juliet Vitz Office Secretary Page 10

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, The Children's Christmas Party was a huge success!!! Our Santa, Dick Haggerty with his many elves truly made the spirit of Christmas a reality to many children who attended this year s party on Saturday, December 21st. We had around 50 children attend. The Heart of the Valley Rainbow Girls were a great help. We had eight or nine girls and their parents helping to spread holiday cheer. Each child got to visit with Santa and was given a stocking filled with great goodies. The ladies from the clinic helped each child make a lasting memory with a hand print craft. Everything for this event was donated. This event is becoming a wonderful tradition for Fresno Scottish Rite. Thank you to everyone who helped by donating items, stockings, fruit, snacks, cider, time, photography, decorations, music, and clean up. Most of all thank you to all of the parents and grand parents who brought their children to help us enjoy the holidays! Page 12
