Members of the Scottish Rite from the Region attend the 2008 Leadership Conference in Dallas where the current status and implementation of our Strategic Plan was the main topic of discussion. The formal opening of the conference was on Friday, with an optional pre-conference seminar offered. Attendees selected the topics that they are interested in for each secession. Individual secessions covered in detail the five strategic Objectives 2. Build a Positive Public Image of the Scottish Rite, which are; of Freemasonry and the Scottish Rite. 1. Fulfill the promise of additional Masonic knowledge 3. Support and expand our philthrough education and training. anthropic activities. 4. Provide a framework for effective leadership to ensure the stability and long-term success of the Fraternity. 5. Provide a financial process to ensure the stability and long-term success of the Fraternity. What an exciting two days, the days were long but they were packed with great information. Hearing how Brothers from several states are dealing with issues like, membership, building repairs, Masonic education, just to name a few was a blast! Seeing that our Valley is in many ways is leading the way for others to follow made each of us proud to be members of this valley. What a great learning experience! 2008 Leadership Conference. 5 Volume XCIV: Scottish Rite News Map to Kerrville Lodge Page 5 A Lodge of Perfection is formed: 1912 When Samuel P. Cochran, Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Texas, pursuant to his previous announcement, arrived in San Antonio on Thursday, September 19, 1912, to institute a Lodge of Perfection, dispensation was granted to 119 brethren, who belonged principally to the Galveston and Dallas Bodies, to form the lodge. The San Antonio Masons and fraternal representatives from the Scottish Rite Bodies of Dallas, El Paso, Houston and Austin, began to assemble in the early afternoon in the Lodge Room of the Crockett Hotel and by four o'clock about 87 of the 119 Masons who were to become charter members of the infant lodge were present. The Crockett Hotel was an appropriate place for the meeting, since it has at all times been owned by San The Crockett Hotel Nat M. Washer, 32 First Venerable Master Antonio Lodge No. 11, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, with a commodious lodge room on the top floor of the hotel, and which was made available to the Masonic brethren. About 4:15 o'clock the meeting was called to order and Nat M. Washer introduced Inspector General Cochran who proceeded to organize a provisional Lodge.
6 Lux e tenebris LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS. A motto very commonly used in the caption of Masonic documents as expressive of the object of Freemasonry, and of what the true Freemason supposes himself to have attained. It has a recondite meaning. In the primeval ages and in the early mythology, darkness preceded light. So LUX being truth or Freemasonry, and TENEBRAE, or darkness, the symbol of initiation, LUX E TENEBRIS is Masonic truth proceeding from initiation Membership Statistics Starting Membership 3071 Knighted 55 Affiliated 5 Re-instated 31 Demitted 58 Died 102 Suspended NPD 178 Ending Membership 2827 The San Antonio Scottish Rite Bodies meet jointly on the first Thursday of each month. All correspondence and business pertaining to the Valley of San Antonio should be addressed to the Secretary, San Antonio Scottish Rite Bodies. ALLEGIANCE The Bodies of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry sitting in the Valley of San Antonio, Orient of Texas, acknowledge and yield allegiance to the Supreme Council (Mother Council of the World) of the Inspectors General, Knights Commander of the House of the Temple of Solomon, of the Thirty Third and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America, whose See is at Charleston, in the State of South Carolina, now sitting at Washington, D.
