We will also be making gift bags for Christmas trays for the UMC. So save your "un-halloween" candy to use in these bags and bring more, that you can usually get on sale after Halloween. Times are busy for all, but save November 15th for Mary/Martha Day. Invite someone to come with you! Please join us in being thankful Wednesday, November 16 as we celebrate the Presbyterian Women annual Thank Offering. We ll have a delicious supper and program for you and your family. The Dorcas Party was a great success. I personally wish to thank all those whose supported the project, The Cookie Jar, at Frank Bowling's OLS community. It will enable the clients to have additional jobs. Mary Frances Bowling Dorcas Tea Oct. 9 $3, benefit for Our Lady of Sorrows Newsletter 2

4 Fall Festival Tuesday, November 22 First Christian Church 645 Briarwood Drive Wednesdays in November The Fall Festival was a huge success. Special thanks go to Larry Coleman, John Barron, Briarwood Youth, Chris Barnhardt, Audie Dodson, Don West, Monty Dodson & the Fall Festival Fellows Band all those who participated in the chili and cake competition. Our Chili judges Chris Barnhardt, Mark Bailey, and Kyle French; Cake judges Andrea Ingram (guest judge), Carol Parish, and John Sumrall; Trunk or Treat vehicle participants, candy donations, and everyone that came and helped with set up and serving the guests by showing love and good works in Christ such as Donna Cook, Lisa Davis, Lea Ann McElroy, Sally Forrest, and Linda Jabour. Thanks to anyone I may have failed to mention. Fun was had by all! Happy Fall Ya'll!! Dawn Barnhardt 1 st Place Chili- Wayne Forrest/ John Sumrall team 2 nd PlaceChili- Nancy Bailey- white chili 3 rd Place Chili- Camilla French 1 st Place Cake- Josie Moore- German Chocolate 2 nd Place Cake- Beth Henry- Apple Dapple Cake 3 rd Place Cake- Howard Barron- Hummingbird In the Mailbag To our Briarwood Family, Press and I want to express our sincere appreciation for the support and prayers of the Briarwood congregation during the illness and subsequent death of my mother, Earline Strickland. Your love and concern have been a great comfort to us during this difficult time. Sincerely, Amy York Two sides of gratitude Todah, the Hebrew word for giving thanks, also means admitting, confessing, acknowledging. That might seem odd, but when we thank someone, we re acknowledging we needed what they gave us. Rabbi Daniel Lapin explains we re even confessing we were incomplete, or experiencing a shortcoming, beforehand. Gratitude is so important for the Jewish life that the Hebrew root words for giving thanks/confessing and for Jew are closely related. A Jewish person, then, is one who both confesses and gives thanks actions crucial to the well-being of the receiver, even more than for the giver. Christians, too, treat confession and thanksgiving as significant aspects of faith, prayer and worship. While we confess that we wholly depend on God for our life and salvation, we offer daily gratitude to God for his countless blessings. Newsletter 4
