1 Stuart Pres Press Stuart Presbyterian Church...a healing place Finding Your Life's Purpose: Created, Called, Crowned Life is a series of seasons. During challenging seasons from unique phases of life and rites of passage to the days surrounding deeply meaningful occasions like Mother s Day or Father s Day or birthdays, graduation, marriage it is not uncommon to wonder about our purpose in life or even question it if we ever knew what it was. As a child, it seemed so simple to dream up anything and just run with it, but somehow as we grow older we can be filled with doubt or insecurity in the roles we are in. We end up questioning if we are where we re supposed to be or do. I often find encouragement in the story of Queen Esther in the Bible. Here we have a young girl who suddenly found herself in a role she never expected. She first finds favor with the king, but suddenly he begins to withdraw (talk about feeling insecure!). In the most critical hour, she feels powerless and unqualified. Remember feeling unqualified or unprepared as a freshman in college? How about in a first job? Finding of life partner? Many of us are familiar with the sentiments from the story in Esther 4:14 - Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created this is God s purpose for you. This encouraging truth is applicable in so many of our roles. Whenever we feel inadequate or unqualified, we must remember that God will prepare us and position us in the calling He has for our life. He will also equip us with everything we need to fulfill the destiny He has for us. So much of our walk with God is spent in preparation and waiting. It might be completing high school, waiting for a big job break, seeing the kids grow up and go to college, seeing parents getting older or sick, or taking a step of faith and pursuing a forgotten dream. During these times, it can be difficult to understand God s ways and plans for our lives. We might wonder: Is my life leading to something great? Will I make it through another day? Why am I going through all of this? We must always remember that God has a purpose for us and is the Master at working all things together for our good and His. He is working out details behind the scenes to prepare us for the calling He has for our lives. Perhaps, like most of us, you find yourself questioning God s calling in your life. Whether you re going to work every day, volunteering at church, planning for college, starting a new job, or making any other life decision, here are three truths from Esther s life to remember: 1. You were CREATED by an awesome God for a powerful purpose. 2. You are CALLED to a very important assignment 3. You have been CROWNED with God s favor for such a time as this. 2 Notes from Session Meeting 4/3/18 The Session of Stuart Presbyterian Church met on April 3, All Elders were present. A quorum was declared and the meeting was opened with a prayer time by the elders. Approval of last meting minutes was approved unanimously. Committee reports wre given by Steve Renegar, Phyllis Lemke, Louise Marion, Kyle Puckett, and Tim Hutchens. Highlights of the reports were 1. VBS is scheduled for 7/21/ Church Supper is 4/18/ Mission Committee meeting 4/15/ Report on drainage project. 5. Bid was awarded to Jerry Helms for the demolition of the Hopkins House. 6. Mowing bid was awarded to Brian Hubbard. Under New Business, it looks like we will not have a representative to the General Assembly due to scheduling conflicts. Kyle Puckett and Steve Renegar will be Commissioners at the April Presbytery Meeting. The September Presbytery Meeting will be held at Lake Forest Presbyterian Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. The next scheduled meeting of the Session will be on May 6, 2018, following a Joint Meeting with the Diaconate. * * * * * * * * Sunday, May 13 (NO Sunday School) The Men of the Church will prepare a breakfast for the congregation on Mother's Day to honor all mothers in SPC. Sunday School will not be held that day so that we may begin serving at 9:30 A.M. This will allow time for families to enjoy their meal and fellowship with each other. Page 2 Stuart Pres Press

Come and join us! Sunday School is not the only component of Christian Education. Other events include Children s Church, Youth Group meetings, outings and mission trips, Vacation Bible School for children, Bible Study groups, Men's Breakfast and fellowship, the Acts Bible Study taught by Betty Martin, and Women s Ministry. This event will celebrate our Local Heroes through an interactive Touch A Truck component. It includes the local fire department, rescue squad, police dept, and other local businesses who are sharing their equipment with us. There will also be games, crafts, food vendors, and an obstacle course. The day is filled with family fun! Stuart Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a booth at the Super Hero Day. Volunteers are needed to help with the booth. If you can donate some time to help, please contact John T Johnson, Lindsey Puckett or Danny! 4 SERMONS BROADCAST ON WHEO WHEO Radio 1270 AM will broadcast the sermon portion or our services each Sunday, 12:30-1:00 p.m., beginning April 1. Keep in mind there will be a one week delay in the WHEO broadcast. If you cannot receive WHEO in your area, live streaming is available via their web site (wheoradio.com). Further, a WHEO App is available for both Android and Apple devices.
