1 AQEEDAH Last week we talked about the Kauf as a form of ibadah and worship right! But today we are discussing the kauf as a form of shirk! The kauf can come in different types! The first type: 1. AlKhauf al Khutrii- a natural fear. Where everyone is scared of natural things like animals and heights etc.these are fears that everyone has! We are all scared of natural disasters and jinn and fire etc.. We have this fear as forms of protection! If we weren t afraid of fire we should be always going into it right! Sometimes the fear can go a bit more- where people are scared of cats or water or whatever and it can be a form of sickness and it s like a phobia where it s too much and you cannot live or do whatever! 2. Al Kauf Al Waajib- where we need to have kauf minallah! Fear of Allah! Take the laailaha illallah which is based on worship! And our ibadah will be perfect depending on the 3 things: love, fear and hope! And we need to have fear of Allah and imagine of Allah's greatness! And we fear that if we speak wrong Allah will hear and the angels will take it down! We are also afraid of the punishment of Allah because no one can give punishment like Allah az'awajal! And fear of a bad end! 3. Kauf Ash Shirkee- Now there are some people who are afraid of a grave right! And there is a lady who every day she gives sacrifice for this grave and if she misses one day she is so afraid that the person in the grave will harm her! So this shirk is where if you are afraid of anything rather than Allah- whether it be a person or thing, this fear makes you to magnify that thing other than Allah! Then this is the shirk! And you are afraid why? Because you think that they have the power to harm you!! Because in whose hands is it to give and take and look after etc Allah! So when you are afraid of others and you think that they can harm you by their might and power then this is shirk! E.g.: magician- where some people are afraid of magician! Why? Because they give the people more power! The people say they want to give him food and clothes etc..why? Because they are afraid that the person can hurt them or harm them because he has power and afraid that he will do some magic on them! And this fear is where you are magnifying the magician! And this is kauf ash shirkee!!

2 And you are always guarding yourself form that magician anger!! And why is it shirk? Because this kauf and magnification should be directed to Allah subahanawatha'la only!!!!!!! So who are those who fall into this category of shirk? Those who DON T know Allah and give too much power and prominence to the sheikhs and alims etc. thus they commit major shirk! Fear Allah az'awajal only and don t ever be afraid of anyone else!!!!! Even if anyone orders to harm you never be afraid of anyone because it can result in major shirk!!! We need to direct our fear to Allah alone!!!!! Hence we can overcome our natural phobias also! These people who are afraid of things like water or people or cats we need to tell them about directing their fear to Allah only! Prophet sallallahuala ihiwasallam said: If all of mankind gathers to harm you in a single way, no one of them can harm you except by Allah's will! We find people who say oh this place has a curse and don t go there and this and that will happen to you etc this is all shirk! This shirk is associated with the magnification of the fear and this is all shirk! Are we not afraid of the jinn? Yes right! It s a natural fear! But sometimes the natural fear exceeds the limits! And the people go and magnify them too much! Whenever they have a new house, how do they magnify the jinn?? They put eyes or bottles in their house or they will sacrifice- do Kurbaan! Why? They say that an empty house has a jinn and we are afraid that the jinn will harm us and they give them more power and magnify them so much! And now we find people just doing as a practice! Even the sheiks people magnify them too much! Afraid that the sheikhs will be angry with them or won t be happy with them etc 4. Ash Shirk al Muharram- this means it s not a shirk but it is forbidden! Where you are afraid of the insan- the humans, the husband the family or anyone and you are afraid of them like they might harm you or think bad of you, but this has no magnification! You are afraid of the people that they may harm you even a little bit but there is no magnification! And why is it forbidden it will lead you to leave the obligation and commit the sins!

3 E.g.: you leave off wearing hijaab. Why? You are afraid that your friends will harm you or criticize or say things of you! That they may hurt or harm you! And this fear is without magnification! And this fear is called al kauf al muharram! Or where you don t pray because you are afraid people will talk or criticize you or whatever! There is a restriction here: if the harm will lead the person to die, like say if you are wearing the hijaab and are afraid that someone will kill you (major harm) then it is permissible! Evidence: Ammar ibn Yasir- who said things which he didn t mean it! Also another example of this shirk- is where his friends are all taking drugs or whatever and he doesn t take it but he does it because he is afraid of his friends! Where even the girls are afraid to go to cinema or movies and your friends are going and you are afraid they will mock at you and you go because of that! So how can you overcome this fear? Who spread this fear in your heart? Shaitan! He did this in order to prevent you from doing the good deeds! That s why Allah subahanawatha'la said in surah Imran ayat 175 It is only Shaitân (Satan) that suggests to you the fear of his Auliyâ' [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger, Muhammad SAW)], so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers. (175) Always remember the maximum that the people can do are criticize or say bad things or whatever but can they enter you into hell? NO! Only Allah az'awajal can! And we need to fear Allah! And his punishment! He is the one who deserves to be feared and his punishment is more than anyone else!!! Even with regards to doing a sin- where you are sitting with people who are backbiting and you are also doing so with them because you are afraid they will say something to you or hurt you! Surah Ankaboot ayat 10 Of mankind are some who say: "We believe in Allâh," but if they are made to suffer for the sake of Allâh, they consider the trial of mankind as Allâh's punishment, and if victory comes from your Lord, (the hypocrites) will say: "Verily! We were with you (helping

4 you)." Is not Allâh Best Aware of what is in the breast of the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinn). (10) Allah az'awajal will protect the one who is sincerely trying to keep away from the sin and he will protect you from those who are trying to do harm on you! If you are afraid of Allah az'awajal only then everything else will fear YOU! But if you fear of other than Allah then you will be afraid of everything! Subahanallah! This is said by the ulamah! Or sometimes you go for a party and you see a girl who is wearing revealing clothes and you are afraid of the person afraid for them for hasad- evil eye. So don t be so afraid of it! Because Allah az'awajal gave you the protection and gave you the means to protect yourself and if you are afraid of things like hasad etc they will get that which they are afraid of because they are not afraid of Allah!!!!! So do the ruqiya and do the morning and evening dua s and keep yourself protected! Some people who are afraid of hasad what do they put? The horse shoe or the eye or whatever! Some people are afraid if we have girls who are pretty or nice they tell you to make them ugly and not wear nice clothes etc people are afraid of accident they put Quran in the car or hang things in their car! So see all these forms of shirk are based on the actions of the heart! They say don t go to the sick person on Saturday or don t have weddings on these days or don t cut nails in the evening etc.so many things!! There is a group who are needy and poor and you are going to help them, you won t go to them with your diamond rings etc. right! Or even at weddings we can be nice and look nice but people over do it! And actually when you really have the fear of Allah and you take the Sunnah means of protection then you will be happy and you won t have any kind of worry in the world! Sometimes what will happen sometimes you make dua and you may get something bad which you don t like maybe a trial or test from Allah! For our own good to elevate us in rank!!!! Sometimes the shaitan if he cannot overcome the person he will try to spread the fear in your heart and this will make you weak and you will be more physically weak and sick!!! And this fear will be in your heart and no one can help you except Allah!

5 E.g.: a young girl who was afraid and really depressed (fear can lead to depression) and she had everything nice and all but she was extremely obsessively afraid of somethingdeath! And that she will go to the grave! Sometimes when we see these horror movies and all we get so afraid of monsters or how we don t want to be alone in the room or scared to go about etc.what made this girl to be so afraid of death- after seeing these types of movies about death and graves etc.. You are so afraid of Allah and you have no hope in his Rahma! Imagine Allah az'awajal mentions about hell and the punishment of the grave in a way that we can bear it and in a way that we can make isthi ghfar and turn more towards Allah! You will really start trying to correct you iman and do what you can to please Allah! Even your fear of aakhira don t let it get too much because it can drive you to an extent where you lose hope completely in Allah and this is dangerous!!!!!!
