1 Introduction Allah introduces Himself to us with His most beautiful names. These names are filled with His attributes and these are perfect names.

2 1 Introduction Allah introduces Himself to us with His most beautiful names. These names are filled with His attributes and these are perfect names. Ibn Qayyim said if you know Allah by His names and attributes then you will surely love Allah. The love of Allah comes as a result of having knowledge of Allah. We need to love Allah more than any one else and even more than ourselves. When we know Allah by His names and attributes then it implies that we love Allah. When we love Allah then we will worship Him because worship cannot be done without love. Without love, worship is just a routine. Today we will study the name Ar Rahman Ar Raheem (These names indicate the mercy of Allah) The scholars said there are many names of Allah but there are three names that are head of all names: Allah - It shows our attachment. It shows how perfect Allah is and that He is the only one deserving our attachment. Rabb It shows Allah actions i.e. how Allah deals with us. Allah nurtures us through the creation, through guidance and through provision. He takes care of us according to what is suitable for us. Ar Rahman It is about the feelings i.e. the mercy and the compassion of Allah. The above three names form the perfect combination Ar Rahman Ar Raheem

3 2 Ar Rahman Ar Raheem are two names of Allah and the attribute is mercy. Allah is full of mercy. We need Allah s mercy in order to survive in this life. Our entire existence is because of Allah s mercy. We are acquiring knowledge by the mercy of Allah. When we pray, fast, read the Quran or do any good deed, it is Allah brining forth all the goodness to us by His mercy. We cannot live without Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. Our life is surrounded by Allah s mercy and even death is a mercy of Allah because death marks the conclusion of the exam (tests) of our life. When we are alive, it is a mercy of Allah, every detail of our life is a mercy and every part of our body is a mercy. Even if we have any pain or sickness it is a mercy as it expiates the sins as just how the leaves falls from the trees in autumn. Our problems are a mercy as it takes us to Allah. Even our needs e.g. drinking, eating etc. is mercy from Allah. We are living under the mercy of Allah and He is taking care of us full of mercy, In surah Al Fateha, Allah tells us all praise and thanks are due to Allah as He is the Nurturer of everyone. He is to the Rabb of the worlds. Allah reforms us full of compassion and mercy. We are surrounded us by His mercy. We need to believe and feel that Allah is Ar Rahman Ar Raheem

4 3 When we start reading the Quran or start doing anything we start with Bismillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. We start by the name of Allah, as He is full of mercy. We need Allah s mercy to start anything. All the benefits we get in this life is from Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. Whether it is money, children or anything we have in this life is a mercy from Allah. When we benefit from knowledge or equipment around us; it is all from the mercy of Allah. When we are happy in life it is the mercy of Allah that makes us happy. When we are getting any good in our life; it is from Ar Rahman Ar Raheem All the good in this life is from the mercy of Allah. Also it is the mercy of Allah that averts harm from us. No one can protect us from harm except Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. No one can protect us from Shaitaan except Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. No one can protect us from sins except Ar Rahman Ar Raheem. Allah changes the situation to protect us from all kinds of evil including the evil of ourselves. Allah protects our heart to not feel sad or sorrow. Allah brings all the goodness and averts all the harm by His mercy. Ar Rahman Ar Raheem are very special and vast names. Allah said in the Quran that His mercy expands and extends everything. Any part of this world that Allah created including the heavens and the earth is surrounded by His mercy. Allah gives us mercy depending on who we are and what we need. We should not ask anyone for mercy besides Allah as Allah knows exactly how much mercy we need. Allah is not only merciful on the humans but also the animals. Allah protects the animals and enables them to survive this life. Allah surround everyone with His mercy without anyone asking. The mercy of Allah is more than the mercy of any merciful person. The humans being mercy can be misused when the person have the feeling of mercy is exploited to do something harmful. We ask Allah for so many things and so many we make supplicate to Allah but our supplication is delayed. There is mercy in the delay and Allah does not give us because He knows it is not good for us. The decree of Allah is full of mercy. Alhumdulillah Allah did not make us to choose our decree because if we were given a choice we will choose something harmful for ourselves. Whatever Allah gave us is a mercy of Allah. Even if we are going through difficult times it is a mercy as our patience in times of calamity elevates our status. So many people enter Paradise due to the affliction and difficulties of this life.

5 4 In life there is no equality as some people are rich and some are poor, some are married some are not, some have children and others don t. If we don t believe in the decree then all this inequality seems to be unfair. However when we know Ar Rahman Ar Raheem, we know that whatever Allah gave us is a test and it is from the mercy of Allah. In short we can see the mercy of Allah in each and every part of our decree. We see example of mercy in the creation when the animals have mercy on their children or when they have mercy on the other animals. It is Allah who put the mercy in the creation. The mercy that we have in us is something Allah put in us. We don t even own the characteristics of mercy in us. Allah puts the mercy in the heart of the mother so she can deal with the newly born child. When parents have a disabled child then Allah puts additional mercy in them to take care of their child. As we grow old Allah increases the mercy in us. Allah is Ar Rahman and Ar Raheem and He is the source of all the mercy in the world. Allah says that He places the feeling of love and mercy between the husband and wife. Allah s mercy expands and extends to every living and non-living thing in the world. There is a Hadith of the Prophet SAW to explain the mercy of Allah. Once there was a man who came to the Prophet SAW with his child and he was kissing his son. The Prophet SAW asked him, do you have mercy towards your son?. The man replied, yes. Then the Prophet SAW replied Allah is more merciful to his slaves than you are to your child. There is another Hadith of the Prophet SAW where in one of the battles after it was over, one woman was desperately searching and looking for her baby and as soon as she found him she fed him. The Prophet SAW asked his companions, do you think she will throw her child in the fire? the companions replied, no. Then Prophet SAW replied, Allah is more merciful to his slaves then ahte lady is to her child. Another Hadith when Allah made the decree before the creation of the heavens and earth. Allah wrote that His mercy precedes His anger on a tablet and placed it on His throne. This is why we don t find any name of Allah as Angry Allah mercy is by default such that His mercy existed even before the creation of the heavens and earth. Allah is Ar Rahman Ar Raheem before the existence of the creation that needed mercy. Allah. Mercy is the personal attribute of Allah and Allah will give the mercy to whomever He wills. Allah s mercy is perfect and stable. It does not go up and down. No one can change the mercy of Allah. If Allah wants mercy for us than no one can stop the mercy from us. On the other hand if Allah decrees that a person does not deserve mercy then no one can give us the mercy. Therefore our heart should only attaché to him we need to only look up to Allah for mercy It is said Ar Rahman is the name of Allah that is attached to Him.

6 5 May Allah have mercy on us while we are on the land, while we are in the grave and when we are resurrected on the Day of Judgment. We need the mercy from only Allah. It is the mercy of Allah that keeps us going in life. Human beings admire and love the perfection esp mercy. We find mercy of Allah in His legislation, regulation and all his commandments e.g. Salah, fast, Quran, Zikr is all mercy. Allah will not command us anything that is not merciful. Also anything that Allah forbade us from is a mercy of Allah. In short Islam is the religion of Mercy. Mercy in this life and mercy in the hereafter. Allah wants the best for us. There is mercy in the religion in every aspect of my life. When we attend the study circle Angels surround us. The place where Angels are is a place surrounded by mercy. Therefore there is mercy of Allah in the study circle. All the messengers of Allah had the quality of mercy. Allah religion, His decree and all His messengers are full of mercy. Allah loves if we are merciful. Have mercy towards the people on the earth and Allah will have mercy on us. Allah appreciates us even when we are merciful on even the animals. There was a women who was very pious but she locked a cat to die without food and water. The Prophet SAW said the lady would be in fire. We need to be merciful toward people, our family and to even animals. We don t know what will take us to Paradise. We should not harm or oppress anyone.
