1 18 th March Names of Allah As Samad Sister Eman al Obaid Noble knowledge is about Allah subhana wa ta ala. When you know Allah subhana wa ta ala, what are the fruits of this knowledge? Allah subhana wa ta ala will love you, Allah subhana wa ta ala will remember you. The answer is based around 3 points Iman (faith) Ibadah (worship) Akhlaq (manners) 1. Your faith will increase The more you know Allah subhana wa ta ala and your concern is to know Allah subhana wa ta ala what will happen to your faith? You faith will increase the more knowledge you have of your Creator. We are supposed to believe in Allah subhana wa ta ala without seeing Him through His Name and Attributes. Believe me when I am talking about the Creator I cannot make something up. The more your faith will increase and you will have a light in your life and light on the Day of Judgement. People say before I knew about Allah subhana wa ta ala I was very different, always stressed. When you know Allah subhana wa ta ala in your life, your life will be easy and you will face the trials in the best manner. Knowledge of Allah subhana wa ta ala is like a guard around you even though the problems are still there. When your faith increases, whatever trials you have they will not affect you. The more your faith increases the minor things will not phase you. With more faith you will not be so easily and quickly irritated, for example when you see people behaviour in the Masjid al Haram. All our problems and our reaction depends on our faith, if our faith is more we can tolerate more, if our faith is less we tolerate less. The effect of the Names of Allah is that your faith will increase. 2. You will perfect your ibadah When you know Allah subhana wa ta ala the effect on your ibadah is that you will perfect your ibadah. Allah subhana wa ta ala created us for a noble reason, to worship Him and know Him. Without this you are not a real human being, you will not be satisfied and content until you know why Allah subhana wa ta ala created you. In the Qur an Allah subhana wa ta ala clearly mentioned why we are created. Other religions like atheists believe in nothing, others believe in reincarnation. Other religions don t have these type of questions. In Islam our questions are answered. Some religions say enjoy life, sin as much as you want and give the sins to your prophet. Others believe in disclosing your sins to a man, humiliating yourself and embarrassing him. Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where will I go? 1

2 People are worshipping other than Allah subhana wa ta ala. AlhamduliLlah if they knew Allah subhana wa ta ala they would not worship these other things. You need to worship Allah subhana wa ta ala with knowledge. You need to feel it when you pray and fast etc. Our Ibadah should not be a burden, we need to enjoy our ibadah. When you know Allah subhana wa ta ala you do not need to struggle with your worship, it will be perfect and you will not associate a partner with Allah subhana wa ta ala. You will not elevate anyone, we are all slaves of Allah subhana wa ta ala. 3. Refine our Akhlaq The Names of Allah can help us in what? To refine our manners, perfect our relationships with people. Akhlaq is not the problem, the problem is the lack of knowledge of Allah subhana wa ta ala. People do not know that in life you are dealing with Allah subhana wa ta ala and Allah subhana wa ta ala is dealing with you. When you smile you are not smiling at people, you are smiling for the reward from Allah subhana wa ta ala. When you feed someone you don t want a thank-you, you are feeding someone for the sake of Allah subhana wa ta ala. Today there are problems between people. We complain she said this, she said that, she did this or didn t do that etc< learn about Allah subhana wa ta ala and all these problems will disappear. You have problems with people because you think you are dealing with them. NO, people are only a means. You need to deal with the one behind the means who is Allah subhana wa ta ala. Your thinking should be that I am doing it for the sake of Allah subhana wa ta ala. This will refine and perfect your manner. Everything I do for Allah subhana wa ta ala I do in the best way. In your heart the core of everything is iman, ibadah & akhlaq, if they are all perfect your life will be perfect. Continuation of the name As Samad. SubhanaAllah Points from the last lecture: This name is mentioned once in the Qur an in surah Ikhlas. This name is a help for your Ikhlas The virtues of surah Ikhlas is that we do everything for the Sake of Allah subhana wa ta ala. The person you are worshipping is Ahad, the One and As Samad, the Unique. When you do everything for Allah subhana wa ta ala in your heart you will really be doing everything for the sake Allah subhana wa ta ala. As Samad is: - not ajwaf, does not need to eat or drink - does not beget nor is begotten Allah subhana wa ta ala has no partner, no child or father. We need children because we need help and support because we are weak. 2

3 When you are worshipping Allah subhana wa ta ala you are worshipping someone who exists and has attributes. AS SAMAD AS SAYYID THE MASTER The 3 rd meaning of As Samad is Allah As Sayyid The Master. Which type of master? In life you have masters who are Lord s, fathers, husbands, bosses, teachers, Sheikhs, rulers etc. When it comes to choosing a husband you will look for the best qualities. Sometimes you don t have a choice in life. You have a choice in who will be your president / prime minister the quality you want is somebody who will take care of your matters. Sometimes in your job you have a choice. When you have a choice you will look for certain qualities. When you give choices to people they have different desires. For example someone will want a boss who is strict, somebody else will want someone who has a degree etc. Are these qualities in people really perfect? The boss cannot be perfect because he is limited, he may have to follow certain rules and regulations. In life we look for perfection but there are always faults. The idea of perfection is different from person to person, and no one is perfect. We all complain, complain and complain and the person you complain about gets your hasanat. Because you complain you are miserable the best advise is sabr. If you can t find the perfection and you desire change you may get something even worse. This is a test from Allah so we should turn to Allah subhana wa ta ala Ya Rabbi help me overcome<<. We don t look at ourselves faith increases your patience and your tolerance will increase when you know no one is perfect except Allah subhana wa ta ala. Perfection does not exist in life, perfection only exists in the hereafter, in paradise. In paradise you will be perfect, your husband will be perfect, your children will be perfect etc. See how the Names of Allah help in this way. Don t be choosy, don t complain, deal with people as people, have sabr, believe in Allah subhana wa ta ala. No one is samad except Allah subhana wa ta ala, no one is the real master except Allah subhana wa ta ala. The Master of all masters is Allah subhana wa ta ala, Allah subhana wa ta ala is having the perfect qualities and attributes. 3

4 When I cannot change my problem or situation, it is a test from Allah subhana wa ta ala. Allah subhana wa ta ala will overcome and know one day I will leave this life and no one is perfect. When there is tension it is because you are not happy and not satisfied with the situation. Human beings expect too much. When you think about it no one perfect. The test is to be patient and to do your best. Shouting will not help you. What do I do? Be patient and in your heart believe no one is the perfect master except Allah subhana wa ta ala. The master of anyone who you think has power of you is Allah subhana wa ta ala. This will make you fear Allah subhana wa ta ala only and no one else. What will give you relief? Knowing Allah subhana wa ta ala is The Master. Think about our real master, Allah subhana wa ta ala As Samad as Sayyid. What type of master? The perfect Master who is perfect and complete in His dominion and in His kingdom. Allah subhana wa ta ala s mulk is the Heavens and the Earth. The seven Heavens and the Earth are all Al Mulk. How many people are there, how many kings, how many angles, how many jinn? On the Day of Judgement He will grasp the whole kingdom with his hands and roll up the heavens with his hands they will be like a mustard seed in His hands. Al Jabbar, (The Compeller, The Powerful, the Irresistible), I am the Master, the real King, where are the arrogant, the sinners? Why are we confused in life? In life our parents, husband, children, in laws, the boss, teacher etc - all try to control you. What will happen to the person in between? They will be exhausted trying to please them all. Your master and everyone s master is Allah subhana wa ta ala. Any master we try to please or his pleasure means a lot to you because you expect / want something; for example if my boss is pleased with me what will I get? A bonus, promotion, the boss will be good to you, you get something. But you find they don t appreciate you so you get depressed and you complain and the hasanat goes away. A real Muslim is quiet and polite but people accuse them of being naive and weak, cold and emotionless. My want is that I want value with Allah subhana wa ta ala. I do not want anything with these masters / bosses / leaders. With other than Allah you will feel tired and get exhausted and you cannot concentrate in your prayer. When you obey them you obey Allah subhana wa ta ala. You are dealing with Allah subhana wa ta ala. Don t give a reason or excuses that they are bad. If they are bad be patient, don t be bad back to them. If the situation is still not perfect remember that Allah subhana wa ta ala as Samad is your real master, His pleasure means a lot to you. In His hands is the Heavens and the Earth. I am a slave under this master As Samad. Seeking His pleasure is easier then people s pleasure. With people you will be humiliated put down. He is your Creator and His pleasure is the easiest to obtain when you get His pleasure Allah subhana wa ta ala will give you His pleasure. One small way to get Allah subhana wa ta ala pleasure; say AlhamduliLlah when are eating and drinking and you will get Allah subhana wa ta ala s pleasure only with enjoying your food and drink you do not need to humiliate yourself. People will go to paradise for giving water to a dog, removing a branch from a tree<<. Allah subhana wa ta ala will appreciate you and Allah subhana wa ta ala will be pleased with you. Samad means master so I need his pleasure. 4

5 In Saheeh al-bukhari, the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam says: When Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala loves someone, he calls Jibreel and Allah then says, Ya Jibreel! Inni uhibbu fulan! (Oh Jibreel! Verily, I love such and such a person, so love him!) And Allah names that person and then Jibreel loves that person. Then Jibreel calls out to all the angels of the heavens and he says, Allah loves so and so, so love him! and so all the angels love him. And then Allah places pleasure in the hearts of the people towards this person! What happens when Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala loves us? Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala first and foremost will mention the name of the person, fulan ibn fulan, and then Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala will call to Jibreel and tell him that he loves this person. Not only will Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala love this person but Jibreel will also love this person. Not only Jibreel, but also the angels of the heavens and the earth will love this person. And then Allah subhaanahu wa ta aala will put the pleasure in the hearts of the people towards this person. You will have acceptance on earth, acceptance will be placed in the hearts of the people on earth. Everyone will be pleased with you. When you try to please people individually you will be exhausted. They may not be pleased or appreciate you and you will be exhausted. With Allah subhana wa ta ala you will always be a winner. The Names of Allah will give you power. Allah subhana wa ta ala is: - perfect in his dominion / kingdom - nobody is more perfect then Him Your life will be perfect when your master is perfect. Don t look to human beings, don t have high expectations. Allah subhana wa ta ala has the best honour, the best majesty, your heart is attached to something perfect. Human beings don t like anything which is imperfect, we like perfection. Your Master is perfect in everything. He is the Great, nobody is more greater than Him. His pleasure means a lot to you, the Azeem, All Mighty. Your Master is Master of everybody. When you deal with Allah subhana wa ta ala it as if He is your master and Allah subhana wa ta ala will deal with as if you are the only one, the only slave. Many millions of people are praying to Allah subhana wa ta ala at the same time as if Allah subhana wa ta ala is in front of all them. They are making du a, invoking Allah subhana wa ta ala and everyone is special to Him. You ask Allah subhana wa ta ala, ask more and more or Allah subhana wa ta ala will be angry with you if you do not ask. Your Master, the very Great, no one is greater than Him, the All Mighty and the Forbearing Master. Our master is Allah subhana wa ta ala and He is having the best attributes, the Most Forebearing, when I make a mistake Allah subhana wa ta ala will not punish me immediately. He will not seize me in punishment until He guides me, gives me time and the moment you accept His guidance and your heart is open to Islam and the guidance, Allah subhana wa ta ala will increase you in guidance will give you more as if you never rejected the guidance. Allah will pardon you for your sins, expiate your sins and replace them with good deeds and He will cover your sins. Whereas people will remind you of your deeds. We cannot even tolerate the actions of our children. Alhamdulillah all praise and all thanks is due to Allah subhana wa ta ala because He the only Master, He is my Master and the Master for everybody. How does Allah subhana wa ta ala plans your life? Your life is not random. In life for example the boss says go and work in another department and you don t want to go to; or you a mother of 5 children; everyone goes through fears in life. But His will is according to the perfect wisdom. Allah the All Wise, the Master you need has wisdom. Allah subhana wa ta ala will take you from one country to another country; who your 5

6 neighbours will be, if you have children or no children, if you marry or do not marry, everything is with Allah subhana wa ta ala but people are not happy with what they have. Your Master has full rights to place you where He wants, the All Wise, the All Knower, His knowledge perfect. The boss at work who puts you in a place or position, did he have any knowledge about you? he will not consider you but will only consider what is best for him and the company. Allah subhana wa ta ala, The Master will put anyone where He wills based on His wisdom and knowledge. For example you find a husband and wife are opposites Allah subhana wa ta ala knows best. If both the husband and wife are the same it is a problem, if both are very quiet or both are very angry it will be a problem. His wisdom is based on His knowledge of you, what suits you. The nature of your children is good for you. When you love Allah subhana wa ta ala it will make you be content, when you know the unseen you will be pleased with the present. Allah subhana wa ta ala knows all the possibilities / probabilities Allah subhana wa ta ala will choose the best, the best situation but you will not see it is the best because our vision is limited. Allah subhana wa ta ala is The Master and takes care of all our affairs and all our situations in life. Allah subhana wa ta ala is perfect in His ability Allah subhana wa ta ala has the full ability and has the perfect attributes. You Master is full of mercy, kindness and compassion. But in life the master needs to be tough or people will take advantage of them. The 3 rd meaning of as Samad is Allah subhana wa ta ala is perfect in His attributes He deserves the worship. Summary of the meaning of As Samad 1. not ajwaf (no hollowness) 2. lam yalid wa lam yulad (who has not begotten, and has not been begotten) 3. as Sayyid, the obeyed Master, perfect in His dominion We ask Allah subhana wa ta ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy.
