1 18 th June Surat al Mulk 67 The Dominion Sister Eman al Obaid 67:7 When they are thrown into it, they hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling while it boils up. In this ayah Allah subhana wa ta'ala describes the Hellfire. thrown into it idha when ul'qu - they are thrown. They will be thrown. It is not mentioned who will throw them but they will be thrown carelessly because of their disbelief in the life, because they dealt carelessly with Allah subhana wa ta'ala signs. Allah subhana wa ta'ala s commandments came to them but they did not take them seriously so they will be cast out from Paradise in humiliation. You need to receive the guidance with a good heart. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is reforming everyone regarding the guidance but not everyone is accepting the guidance. Those turning away will be dealt with justice on the Day of Judgement. What will happen when they are thrown into Hellfire? Paradise will receive the dwellers of Paradise by approaching them, and the gates of Paradise will open slowly, slowly, welcoming them. With the people destined for Hellfire, the heedless, they will not realise when they are thrown Zumar (groups) the groups of the people entering Paradise will see the gates closed, then they will open and the people will be longing to go in. The groups of the people of Hellfire will be in darkness and thrown into the hole of Hellfire. hear from it a [dreadful] inhaling samiʿu - they will hear They will be gathered in Hellfire blind and dragged. Dragged like a cattle being dragged along the ground and some will be dragged on their faces. When you read Allah subhana wa ta'ala s azhab in the Qur an do not despair or think bad of Allah subhana wa ta'ala as Allah subhana wa ta'ala is guiding you in the life. The will hear laha (from it) the hellfire. Hellfire is having a sound. 1

2 shahiqan - an inhaling Shahiq is to hear the breath of Hellfire, inhale and exhale. Shahiq is inhale, pulling inside. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "In very hot weather delay the Zuhr prayer till it becomes (a bit) cooler because the severity of heat is from the raging of Hell-fire. The Hell-fire of Hell complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The breath in the summer is at the time when you feel the severest heat and the breath in the winter is at the time when you feel the severest cold." (Book #10, Hadith #512) The one breath in the Winter will be the one day which will be the peak of the coldness. The Hellfire is not only fire but extreme cold as well. So remember Hellfire on that cold day. The one day in Summer will be extremely hot so remember Hellfire as the heat of Hellfire will be more intense. it boils up Tafuru boiling. In Arabic yaghli is boiling. Tafur is like the grains in a huge pot of boiling water jumping around. This is how people will be moving around in Hellfire. 67:8 It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner?" bursts with rage The Hellfire is frowning; this is from the word jahannam. Here Hellfire is having a feeling. We read this surah every night to account and reform ourselves. When you sleep it is a minor death so make tawbah and hasten to do the good deeds. The accounting procedure comes in the night. Tamayyazu (bursts) Hellfire is about to explode out of anger. When people enter Hellfire she will be even more angry. Angry for whom? She will be angry at the people who will dwell in Hellfire. Hellfire is hot, frowning and angry. Angry because Allah subhana wa ta'ala has shown the people the proofs and the evidence and still they did not take it. Hellfire is one of Allah subhana wa ta'ala s creation and a Slave of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, all of Allah subhana wa ta'ala s creation is submitting to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, even the Hellfire. She will be angry at those people disobeying Allah subhana wa ta'ala when everything is glorifying the praises of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. When you have a human being disbelieving in Allah subhana wa ta'ala, everything in the Universe is cursing them and will say Alhamdulillah when the disbeliever dies. Hellfire is the same, it is one of the creations of Allah subhana wa ta'ala and is submitting to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Hellfire is angry for the Sake of Allah at those who are rejecting Allah subhana wa ta'ala. 2

3 A true believer loves Allah subhana wa ta'ala, loves whomever Allah subhana wa ta'ala love s and hates whomever Allah subhana wa ta'ala hates. La yuhibbu in life is the same, when you love somebody you love and hate what they love and hate. Allah subhana wa ta'ala created the objects, the stones, the trees to have feelings. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is talking to the objects. Hellfire is angry as if to take revenge. This is Allah s wrath and punishment. In surat al Qaf we can see how Hell will be angry Allah subhana wa ta'ala will talk to the people, the people will be thrown in groups into Hellfire and they will say isn t this enough for you, but Hellfire will ask is there anymore. Hellfire was closed for thousands of years getting angrier and angrier so when they enter Hellfire imagine what she will do to them. In your heart, nothing is more difficult compared to this punishment. But people are more afraid from people s words than from Allah subhana wa ta'ala s punishment, people are trying to please people rather then please Allah subhana wa ta'ala as if they are throwing themselves into Hellfire. Is it worth trying to please a person. At the end of the day if somebody oppressed you, tortured you, wronged you etc. this is easy, this is nothing compared to the torment of Hellfire. Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 93 :: Hadith 481 Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "(The people will be thrown into Hell ( Fire) and it will keep on saying, 'Is there any more?' till the Lord of the worlds puts His Foot over it, whereupon its different sides will come close to each other, and it will say, 'Qad! Qad! (enough! enough!) By Your 'Izzat (Honor and Power) and YOUR KARAM (Generosity)!' Paradise will remain spacious enough to accommodate more people until Allah will create some more people and let them dwell in the superfluous space of Paradise. " Hellfire is saying I want more, I want more but everyone who should be in Hellfire is in Hellfire. Allah the All Mighty, He will put His feet into Hellfire, then the Hellfire will say stop, this is enough. This is all al ghayb for us but it is in the Qur an and the Sunnah. Chapter (50) sūrat qāf 50:30 On the Day We will say to Hell, "Have you been filled?" and it will say, "Are there some more," Bukhari :: Book 6 :: Volume 60 :: Hadith 371 Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "The people will be thrown into the (Hell) Fire and it will say: "Are there any more (to come)?' (50.30) till Allah puts His Foot over it and it will say, 'Qati! Qati! (Enough Enough!)'" a company is thrown into it Fawjan a group. People will enter Hellfire in groups as will the people of Paradise. In Islam the group is very important. Friendships, brotherhood, sisterhood are all important so do not isolate yourself. Choose your group carefully. Your friends have a huge influence in your life. If people pray, you will pray etc. if your friend sins, you will sin. The emphasis in Islam is to have a good companion or a good group. If your don t have a good companion ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala as this is a provision from Allah subhana wa ta'ala, a rahma from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. He can give you the best for your akhirah. You don t want a friend just for the dunya. A 3

4 good friend will remind you of the akhirah. You need a friend to support you, remind you and encourage you. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam said if a you have a cattle of sheep, they are safe when together. If one isolates herself the wolf will eat it. If you did not sit with the jam iah and left them it will be very easy for the shaitan to attack you. Most people leave the jam iah for a worldly matter. As soon as they leave the situation around them changes but the priority is the deen. You may feel sad when they leave as how much can you only talk about the dunya. Talking about Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the attachment to our friends. In Hellfire the groups will be made up of those who misled each other. its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner?" Hell is angry and the keepers of the Hellfire are angry. The helpers of the Hellfire are angels. Narrated Samura: The Prophet said, "Last night I saw (in a dream) two men coming to me. One of them said, "The person who kindles the fire is Malik, the gate-keeper of the (hell) Fire, and I am Gabriel, and this is Michael." (Book #54, Hadith #459) Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam saw the keeper of the Hellfire in a dream and he was very ugly and making the fire more and more. Jibril alaihi as-salaam said Allah subhana wa ta'ala made him angry. So don t say to anyone you are like an angel as there are different types of angles. There are 19 keepers of Hellfire. Chapter (74) sūrat l-mudathir (The One Enveloped) 74:30 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). The nineteen angels are very harsh, very strong, and they will never disobey Allah subhana wa ta'ala and will do as Allah subhana wa ta'ala commanded. They will ask why are you here? Didn t any warner come to you, didn t anyone not warn about Hellfire. They will scold the people of Hellfire as anyone hearing about Hellfire would be scared of Hellfire. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam said if any warner comes to you - but they are not taking the warning.?????????? When Allah subhana wa ta'ala created Paradise and Hellfire Allah subhana wa ta'ala told the angels to look at both Hell and Paradise. They went to Paradise and saw it was the most beautiful place, anyone who heard about it would not waste their time and would want to go there. Then the angels saw Hellfire and they said anyone who heard about Hellfire would be afraid and try to protect themselves from Hellfire. Allah subhana wa ta'ala surrounded Paradise with the obligations we need to fulfil in order to enter Paradise. Angel Jibril said I don t know if people will go to Paradise with hardship. And Hellfire is surrounded by desire. In life people pay to go to Hellfire, they pay for sin, but Paradise is free, acquiring knowledge is free. You life is ikhtabar (test), are you satisfied with the decree, and are you fulfilling the commandments. You will not question the commands of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala never leaves anyone without guidance and He is never unjust to His slaves. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will never punish anyone unless a reminder, a Rasul came to the people. Those unable to receive the message, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give them the 4

5 message on the Day of Judgement. Allah subhana wa ta'ala s rahma precedes His anger. Allah is wudd for the sinners so as not to go to Hellfire. The biggest warning we need to consider is not going to Hellfire. Reading this ayah is the biggest warning. You know exactly what you will be facing. Allah subhana wa ta'ala negates the zulm, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will never be unjust. People in Hell know they deserve Hellfire. If they came back to the life they will commit the same disbelief so they deserve eternal punishment. The People of Paradise will always do good deeds. Never say I will be good for a short time. Ask for the good for yourself. 67:9 They will say," Yes, a warner had come to us, but we denied and said, ' Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.' " The keepers of Hellfire are scolding the inhabitants of Hellfire and the people of Hellfire will reply Yes a warning came to us. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is telling you about what will happen in the future. A warner can be a friend, my mother, my father, a book I read, a lecture I heard. A warning came to you but you denied it, you did not take it seriously, you just enjoyed your life. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam said the haram is very clear and the halal is very clear. In the middle is what is not clear so I will leave it. So don t fall into the trap of shaitan and avoid that which is not clear for example travelling without a mehram, plucking the eyebrows in the middle. The dwellers of Hellfire denied the revelations and the guidance. Your duty in life is imanbillah. If you disbelieve you deserve to go to Hellfire. The are also saying Allah has not sent down anything. You are not but in great error.' nazzala has sent down. According to them Allah subhana wa ta'ala did not reveal anything, Allah subhana wa ta'ala did not send a message or a book. Allah subhana wa ta'ala only revealed the message to the Messengers and the book to the Messengers. Specifically they denied the Messengers and the books. They are denying wahiy (revelation). If you doubt the revelation you do not believe. Antum You (are). Initially they are talking about themselves Now they are saying you are not. They are addressing the second person, somebody, you, they are all greatly misguided. The ulema said this could have 2 possible meanings - maybe this is for the Messengers and those at the time of the Messengers, accusing them of misguidance. They were disbelievers in the life time of the Messengers. - if you are guiding someone and you say I will teach you the one teaching thinks you are wrong and I am right. This could be for the keepers of the Hellfire to the disbeliever on the Day of Judgement. 5

6 67:10 And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze." A warner came to us but we belied it and did not believe in it. Now they will confess. They will regret. Your duty in life is amanu wa amilus salihat which you did not do, you did not take the guidance. The people of Paradise will have no regrets. For the people of Hellfire, the regret will kill them and all this is in the future. Nasma u listened. Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave us the ears to take the guidance but our hearing did not hear the good things. We are misusing our ears. We are not accepting the guidance as if we do not have ears. They used their ears to sin, to listen to doubts etc. Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave you eyes and ears for the guidance, to save yourself from Hellfire and go to Paradise. They are negating the hearing from themselves as if they are deaf by not listening to the guidance and not using their intellect and mind. naʿqilu reasoned. Their intellect did not help them to save themselves from the Hellfire. For yourself use your intellect to know Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The mind needs to work. The guidance and pondering makes the mind work. With everything in Islam you need to use your mind. Even for dhikr you need to use your mind as when you talking and using your eyes you are also using your brain. Memorising and pondering the Qur an uses your intellect. When the mind is filled with corruption or bad thoughts you will loose your mind because you are not using it for a good cause. Guard yourself from falling into sin and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will guide you. People will be saved from Hellfire by hearing the good word, using their mind and thinking of Allah. 67:11 And they will admit their sin, so [it is] alienation for the companions of the Blaze. They confess and accuse themselves. They will not accuse Allah subhana wa ta'ala but they will praise Allah subhana wa ta'ala, they will see Allah subhana wa ta'ala s rahma and they will see that they were rejecting it. They are far away and the losers. What is our duty after hearing about Hellfire? Du a - seek refuge from Hellfire. You cannot do it by yourself. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam said Allah subhana wa ta'ala said seek refuge 3 times and the Hellfire will speak Ya Rabbi protect that person from entering the Hellfire. Firstly knowing about Allah subhana wa ta'ala is very important. You cannot talk to everybody about Hellfire as it may take them further away from Islam. To know about Hellfire is a medicine. Don t use it as a tool to scare children or to make them listen to you as they will hate the religion. Everyone should know Allah subhana wa ta'ala and love Allah subhana wa 6

7 ta'ala then you can talk about Hellfire. In the Qur an after talking about hellfire Allah subhana wa ta'ala talks about Paradise. We ask Allah subhana wa ta ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah subhana wa ta ala. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own.
