90:4 We have certainly created man into hardship. 90:5 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

1 Sunday 7 th October 2012 Juz Surat al Balad the City Sister Eman al Obaid 90:1 I swear by this city (Makkah); 90:2 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city 90:3 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], The beginning of the surah starts with the oath by the place Makkah & Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam is living there. by our origin, Prophet Adam alaihi as-salaam 90:4 We have certainly created man into hardship. 90:5 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? Allah subhana wa ta'ala created us in hardship. When people strive hard for something they think that they own it and have power over it. Don t think no one has the power to take anything from you be humble and ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to protect it for you. Ayah 6 This is about what a man far away from the guidance will say: He will be proud of the money and property Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave him. he will say this is in the present tense destroy - the verb ahlaka means to destroy. What did he destroy? money but he wasted it, spent it on haram things. wealth, abundant he had the How will you bless your money? By spending the money on things which Allah subhana wa ta'ala will bless for you. Lubada in Arabic means when there are a lot of clouds he has loads of money which he is not benefitting from. His money is gone for waste. 1

2 Money which Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave you, which you spent for the Sake of Allah will benefit you on the Day of Judgment. For example Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu alayhi wa sallam said in a hadith: food given to feed people will be sadaqa and a means to enter Paradise. Islam is always teaching us not to be selfish. o When you have anything share it. o If you want the best give it away. A believer, someone with a high level of faith will love to give the things which they love. What makes you to give the things you love? When giving for the Sake of Allah. Ayah 7 To the one who is proud of his power and proud of his wealth Allah subhana wa ta'ala replies; Proudness and boasting - When someone is watching you this will reform you. When people make a mistake they will not expose it in front of everybody. Selfishness and greediness is a sickness of the heart. Allah subhana wa ta'ala can see him. People are more scared of people seeing them then they are of Allah subhana wa ta'ala seeing them. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is seeing you, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is hearing you Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows about you, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is witness over everything that you are doing in your heart and on the outside. This will make you to be on the siratul mustaqeem when someone is watching you. Don t make the children to be only scarred of you the mother, the father, the teacher are not always there. Only Allah subhana wa ta'ala is always there watching. 2

3 Allah subhana wa ta'ala is watching you, seeing you and hearing you and Allah subhana wa ta'ala preserves all your deeds. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is having power over you. When you think like this you will feel ashamed you don t want Allah subhana wa ta'ala to see you in a position or saying something or having something in your heart which is displeasing Him. How many times do some people try to cheat people, deceive the people, say something which they don t mean: o You cannot deceive Allah subhana wa ta'ala, o You cannot cheat Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This ayah is a huge reforming for the human being, when you know that Allah subhana wa ta'ala is seeing you. This is a warning - don t ever think when Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave you the power that you are self sufficient - don t ever think when Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave you the money to be proud and destroy it by doing whatever you want to do Allah subhana wa ta'ala will see what you do and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will account you for what you did in everything, in detail. This is a warning to not exceed the boundaries. Twenty four seven, inside and outside Allah subhana wa ta'ala is seeing you, hearing you and witnessing over you. You need to remember this all the time. Allah subhana wa ta'ala rose over the throne and He sees everybody. Next Allah subhana wa ta'ala reminds you of the blessings which he favoured you with. Blessings which no one can give you except Allah subhana wa ta'ala and you can not attribute the blessing even to yourself. Ayah 8 9 3

4 And a tongue and two lips? two eyes o Why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala give you two eyes? To be able to see three dimensionally. Glasses were invented from the workings of the eyes. o Why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala give you the eyes? In order to see Allah subhana wa ta'ala s signs. o Animals and fish also have eyes but the purpose of human eyes is higher. You see everything but when you see it, it should make you know Allah subhana wa ta'ala. o Everything around you is a sign to know Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This is purpose of the eyes but people are using the eyes to commit sins. o Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave you a gift and you are using this gift to disobey Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave us the eyes to Know Him To do the ibadah To ponder and reflect upon Allah s creation Read the Qur an o This is the purpose of the eyes for the person who is having the sight. o The person not using the eyes for the right purpose is as if he is blind. o We need to guard our eyes, not look at things which are haram. Our eyes can commit sins. one tongue. AlhamduliLlah we have one tongue. o This one tongue, just one word can take you high into Paradise or one evil word can take you down to Hellfire. o The tongue is like a weapon, you can use it for good or for evil. o You tongue can make you a good person or you tongue can make you an evil person. two lips We use our tongue to talk, to taste and to pronounce the words for which we need the lips. o With the tongue and two lips you can express your feelings, you can say the words clearly. The lisan is to utter the words and the shafatayn, the lips makes the letters and the words perfect. 4

5 There are blessing which you are enjoying and Allah subhana wa ta'ala favours you with these blessings. When human beings forget about their basic needs they can be like a tyrant or like a despot. All your kalam comes from the air in the lungs qudratallah is for us to make the sounds using the tongue and the lips SubhanaAllah. Allah subhana wa ta'ala taught us to express ourselves taught us the speech. Allah subhana wa ta'ala granted us the eyes to see and Allah subhana wa ta'ala can give you the ability to speak. How do you need to use the eyes and the speech? You use it for a good cause. When you see, you need to see the things which increase your faith, don t abuse your eyes by looking at the haram. You can speak, you can utter the words so you need to utter the good, say something which benefits you and benefits the people. The problems between people are because they are not using their tongue properly. They are misusing the blessings which Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave us. You need to thank Allah subhana wa ta'ala and appreciate the wealth and power with your eyes and your tongue. We ask Allah subhana wa ta ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy.
