After a few days, Allah (SWT) granted Prophet (SAW) to migrate to Madina.

1 We will continue our discussion on the 3 rd and last principle of Thalathul Usool which is Who is your Prophet? Last week we discussed about the reasons for Migration to Madina. Migration to Madina (continued) Allah (SWT) commanded the companions of Prophet (SAW) to m igrate to Madina. Abu Bakr (RA) did preparations for migration. When he asked Prophet (SAW) to accompany him for the journey, Prophet (SAW) said that he cannot migrate until he s granted permission by Allah (SWT). Abu Bakr (RA) delayed his migration because he wanted to have the honor of accompanying Prophet (SAW). After a few days, Allah (SWT) granted Prophet (SAW) to migrate to Madina. It s narrated by Ayesha: One day, while we were sitting in Abu Bakr's house at noon, someone said to Abu Bakr, "This is the Messenger of Allah (SWT) with his head covered, coming at a time at which he never used to visit us before." Abu Bakr said, "May my father and mother be sacrificed for him. By Allah (SWT), he has not come at this hour except for something important." So the Messenger of Allah (SWT) came and asked permission to enter, and he was admitted. When he entered, he said to Abu Bakr. "Tell everyone who is present with you to go away." Abu Bakr replied, "There is no one here but your family. May my father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah (SWT)! " The Prophet said, "I have been given permission to migrate." Abu Bakr said, "Shall I accompany you? May my father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah (SWT)!" The Messenger of Allah (SWT) (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Yes." Abu Bakr said, "O Messenger of Allah (SWT), may my father be sacrificed for you, take one of these two shecamels of mine." The Messenger of Allah (SWT) (peace and blessings of Allah (SWT) be upon him) replied, "(I will accept it) with payment." Both Prophet (SAW) and Abu Bakr (RA) left for Madina. On their way, they stopped at cave Saur. Meanwhile Quraish were searching for Prophet (SAW) everywhere. While hiding in the cave Saur, Abu Bakr (RA) was scared because he could see the disbelievers moving around the cave. Page 1

2 Prophet (SAW) comforted Abu Bakr (RA) by saying: Don t be afraid, Allah (SWT) is with us. It was narrated that Abu Bakr (RA) said: I said to the Prophet (SAW), when I was with him in the cave: If one of them looks down at his feet he will see us. He said, What do you think, O Abu Bakr, of two the third of whom is Allah? Narrated by al-bukhaari, Prophet (SAW) is comforted Abu Bakr (RA) by saying that A llah (SWT) is with us. Allah (SWT) had made the disbelievers blind so that they could not see Prophet (SAW) and Abu Bakr (RA) nor could they see their traces. Lesson: This shows that if Allah (SWT) is with someone, no one can find them, touch them or harm them. After three days of continuous search, the disbelievers lost hope. Prophet (SAW) and Abu Bakr (RA) continued their journey and they took a path that was different from the usual path. They took the path from the coast side. In Madina, the news of Prophet (SAW) arrival had already reached. The Muslims of Madina were very excited to meet Prophet (SAW). Every morning they used to leave their work and wait for Prophet (SAW) till the sun was too hot and then they used to return back. One day a Jew, while he was on the top of his house, observed shadows of three men (first one was Prophet (SAW), second one was Abu Bakr (RA) and the third one was their guide). The Jew shouted and screamed, This is your owner, your Messenger, and he has appeared now. The Muslims of Madina were excited and they welcomed the Prophet (SAW). They screamed, Allah is the greatest, welcome Messenger of Allah ( Allah hu Akbar ja a Rasul Allah). Definition of Migration: It means to leave the country. Migration in Islam: To travel from a Non-Muslim country to a Muslim country-a country with symbols of Islam. Page 2

3 What are the symbols of Islam? Through the symbols of Islam you can know whether a country is a Muslim country or not. The following symbols of Islam are visible in a Muslim country: You can hear the Azan There is congregational prayer Friday Prayer The celebration of Eid Definition of Non-Muslim country The country where the symbols of disbelief are very visible and their celebrations are on a very wide scale. The symbols of Islam are not apparent. In that country you cannot hear the Azan. There is no celebration for Eid. They have their own festivals. You cannot have the Friday prayer openly. Definition of Muslim country The entire country has visible symbols of Islam that can be seen by everyone. A Non-Muslim country with a small group of Muslims cannot be considered a Muslim country. What is the ruling regarding migration? It s obligatory and mandatory(fard) on the Ummah You have time to migrate till the Day of Judgment. There are many things that a believer cannot do properly in a Non-Muslim e.g. wearing the hijab, praying, fasting etc. There are so many things in Islam that cannot be done in a Non-Muslim country. So, it s obligatory to migrate to a Muslim country. Why is it obligatory? For Muslims the main thing is to worship Allah in peace. In a Non-Muslim country, a Muslim will be weak because there will be so much temptation and different kinds of fitna. Page 3

4 Evidence from the Quran that migration is obligatory especially if it s effecting the worship of Allah. Surah An-Nisa Ayah Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination. Except for the oppressed among men, women and children who cannot devise a plan nor are they directed to a way For those it is expected that Allah will pardon them, and Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving. Migration is for the sake of Allah and not for the sake of money or job. At least you can hear the Call for prayer (Azan ), you can see people wearing hijab and celebrating the festivals of Islam e.g. Eid, Ramadan etc. You feel that the environment and atmosphere of the Muslim country helps you to practice Islam. 5 When someone migrates for the sake of Allah (SWT), all his/her past sins are forgiven as if he just entered Islam or he has performed Hajj. Even his/ her major sins will be wiped out. It s not easy to migrate from a Non- Muslim country to a Muslim country. How can we migrate from a Non-Muslim country to a Muslim country? We need to rely on Allah (SWT) to make it easy for us to live there in order to help us in our religion. InshaAllah Next Week: Rulings regarding travelling to a Non-Muslim country.
