2 STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE In the second reading today, St. James has harsh words for those who do not put their faith into action. May we be such good stewards of God s gifts to us that we can never be accused of having faith that does nothing in practice FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS Sept. 8/9 Last Year Env. Users: Reg. Collection: $7, $7, Loose Collection: $ $ On-Line Giving (34) $2, $ Thank you for your generosity! FROM THE RECTOR S DESK Attention All Participants as Lectors and Ministers of Holy Communion There will be training sessions after all 3 Masses on Saturday, October 6 th and Sunday, October 7 th for Lectors (Readers) and Ministers of Holy Communion. If you would like to participate in one of these ministries, please come for training. Also, current participants in ministries are encouraged to consider attending one of the sessions for a refresher. You may call or text David Dusek at if you have questions about this. Thank you for your willingness to participate. Attention All Participants as Altar Servers There will be a special 2-hour training session for Altar Servers on Sunday, October 7 th, from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. Because there is more involved in being a server, more time is needed for training. Current servers are encouraged to attend for a refresher. There will be pizza served for the participants at 12:00 noon prior to the start of training. You may call or text David Dusek at if you have questions about this, and also to please let me know if you are coming so that there will be enough pizza for lunch. Thank you for your willingness to participate! WEEKLY MEDITATION My dad often used the saying: "He can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk?" It was a favorite line of his when he heard a lot of words but didn't see much action. Fact is, most of the time our words signal our behavior; our actions prove it. The Letter of James puts this notion of action into the context of faith: we demonstrate our faith by the works of daily life. Talking about our love for the Lord is good, but showing it consistently is crucial. Let's face it - as disciples we are at our best when we are living examples of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Of course, sometimes living our faith is difficult, challenging, and painful. There are times when we are tested to keep going in the right direction, to stay true to our values and purpose, and to hang in there when we might be tempted to stop. Not only are we living witnesses, but the proof of our faith is often revealed in our actions when times are toughest. Both Isaiah and Jesus testify that some paths will demand everything we have, even our lives. In these moments we trust completely in God for the wisdom, courage, and power we need. As we walk the walk of faith we remember that we do not do it alone: the Lord continues to put people in our lives and strengthens us through Sacraments, Scripture, Prayer, and Fellowship. What's more, there are times when we are called upon to support others on their walk - giving strength to those who struggle. Whether we are leaning on another or lending a helping hand to someone in need...may we walk the walk, with Jesus Christ by our side. Fr. Andrew Question for Children: What do think it means for you to follow in Jesus footsteps? Question for Youth: Who do you say that Jesus is? Who is Jesus in your life? Question for Adults: What is the cross that you carry today? How do you follow Jesus in the workplace and at home? CATHEDRAL NEWS ROSARY Please join us Monday Friday at 8:00 A.M. What is RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA is a process of the Catholic Church designed to help adults to become fully initiated, practicing Catholics. Who should participate in RCIA? RCIA is open to many: Those who have not been baptized in any Christian faith; Those who have been baptized in another denomination but are being called to be Catholic; Those who have been baptized but not fully initiated through Confirmation and Eucharist; Those who have received sacraments but have been away from the Church; Those who are practicing their Catholic faith but desire to know more. The common factor among these groups is the desire to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ through his Holy Catholic Church. What does the process entail? In the cluster that includes Cathedral of Christ the King, Holy Assumption, St. Anthony (Superior), St. Anthony (Lake Nebagamon), and St. William (Foxboro), RCIA includes two-hour weekly sessions on Thursday evenings. Individuals meet as a group with a dedicated team of adults. Each evening includes Scripture, a Catechism topic, and other interesting facets of the Church. Does participation mean commitment? Choosing to participate in the Thursday RCIA sessions does not mean that an individual has fully committed to the Catholic Church. Rather, the sessions are designed to assist individuals through the discernment process. No one commits until they are ready. That may take a few months or maybe a few years. What s the first step? Contact RCIA coordinator Kathy Drinkwine at or Kathy.RCIA@gmail.com. You can also just show up a little early at any session. When does RCIA begin? The first session is Thursday, September 20 th. The group meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Kress Hall. Hope to see you there!

The event is part of a yearlong celebration of the Saint John s Bible, which St. Scholastica will host during the school year. It features 160 illustrations by six artists, and 1,150 handwritten pages written by six calligraphers. The creation of this Bible inspired the publication of the Heritage Edition, a full-size, museum quality reproduction of 299 seven-volume collections to be shared with the world. In the coming school year, in honor of St. Scholastica Monastery s 125th anniversary, the College will host Volume 6 of the Heritage Edition, Gospels and Acts. This will provide the community with a unique opportunity to experience a rare work of art and inspiration. A variety of events and programming are being scheduled around the Heritage Edition s presence, with integration into some of this year s Spotlight arts and cultural events at St. Scholastica. The book will be available for viewing in the St. Scholastica Library and elsewhere. For details, visit css.edu/bible. The College of St. Scholastica is nationally recognized for quality.
