Scheduled for January 29, 2019 to January 30, 2019, this is a time for individuals to give to their local Catholic school. By leveraging social media, this national day of philanthropy and camaraderie will invite all people, across the country, who have been impacted by Catholic school education in ways big and small to financially donate at a local level. 2 CATHEDRAL SCHOOL PANCAKE BREAKFAST On Sunday, January 27 th the Cathedral School Athletic Association will hold a Pancake Breakfast in Kress Hall from 8:00 am 12:00 pm. There will be Pancakes, Sausage, Juice, Milk and coffee. Free Will Offering. Proceeds from the breakfast will help support the athletic department at Cathedral School. The School is seeking monetary donations for the Pancake Breakfast of coffee (both regular and decaf), orange juice, milk, sausage, and butter. PASTA EXTRAVAGANZA CONTEST Do you have the best pasta sauce recipe in the Northland? Put you sauce to the test by entering the Pasta Extravaganza contest! 3 WEEKLY MEDITATION This week's readings proclaim God's goodness in a variety of ways: 1st Reading - God calls Israel his "Delight" Psalm - the people proclaim the "marvelous deeds of the Lord" 2nd Reading - the Spirit showers us with rich and varied gifts Gospel - Jesus turns water into wine at a wedding in Cana We often talk about the Lord's commandments as things we should NOT do. While this is often true and helpful, we can sometimes miss the point about all the ways our lives can DO things that are inspired (and indeed, commanded) by God. We are called: to live joyfully to proclaim God's Good News to engage the gifts we have been given for others to change and transform the world around us with God's grace and blessing Simply put, God's goodness to us inspires us to share this abundant goodness with each other. We are invited to take hold of our lives and make the most of each day - loving and serving, forgiving and helping, blessing, healing, rejoicing, and renewing. We have been given the gifts of life and faith...let's live them with power! The gut check in all this flows from our fundamental attitude: do we live our faith with love, joy, and peace? Do people see goodness in the words we say and the actions we perform? Is our Christian witness evident in the manner and conduct of our interactions with others? FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM Help A Child Learn & Grow & Earn Extra Money! The Foster Grandparent Program of Northeast Minnesota & Northwest Wisconsin is recruiting new volunteers in your area. Foster Grandparents are men and women ages 55 and older and are available to volunteer hours per week in schools, child care centers, and Head Start centers working with children with special and exceptional needs. Volunteers tutor students in reading & math, help young children with basic skills, and form meaningful and lasting relationships with children. In exchange for hours of volunteer service the volunteers receive a tax-free, non-reportable stipend, mileage reimbursement, monthly training and recognition. The application process is easy! During four days of filming in December of 2010, Fr. Thomas sat with Fr. Carl in a conversation focused on the process of death and dying as part of, rather than the end of, life's journey. We will begin each session with a 20-minute centering prayer sit, view the day's segment, and discuss its meaning in our lives. All are welcome! Facilitators: Lezlie Oachs, a retired St. Scholastica faculty member, has been a practitioner of Centering Prayer since 1996 and is a commissioned Centering Prayer teacher through Contemplative Outreach. Judy Russell taught at risk youth for nearly thirty years in Minneapolis and St. Paul. A longtime Centering Prayer practitioner, she has been a commissioned teacher through Contemplative Outreach since Pat Winkelman retired from Essentia Health in 2007 and has been a practitioner of Centering Prayer since She is currently getting her certification as a Contemplative Outreach teacher.
