3 THE THIRD SNDAY IN ADVENT Rejoice and Exult with All Your Heart December 13, 2015 Get to KNOW The God who KNOWs NEWton I am the Good Shepherd I KNOW my sheep And my sheep KNOW me, just as The Father KNOWs me and I KNOW the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. (John 10:14-15) WELCOME AND ANNONCEMENTS CONFESSION AND ABSOLTION P In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen. P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak. The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. I will gather those of you who mourn for the festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach. Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather the outcast, and I will change their shame into praise and renown in all the earth. At that time I will bring you in, at the time when I gather you together; for I will make you renowned and praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I restore your fortunes before your eyes, says the Lord. In that hour he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who were blind he bestowed sight. And he answered them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is the one who is not offended by me. When John s messengers had gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are dressed in splendid clothing and live in luxury are in kings courts. 11 Announcements BILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES This Christmas we will be spending more time together with family members who are home from school, traveling in a car together and eating at the table. As you gather, keep a watchful eye out for excessive negative talk including constantly complaining, find fault, passing on gossip and forgetting to affirm or talk about the positive virtues of others. Sometimes we fall into the habit of forgetting to acknowledge the good things happening in our community, our church, or our family. Sharing negative messages of gloom and doom foster a depressing atmosphere in the home. Instead, look for the positive and talk about it! Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely think on these things. Philippians 4:8 Lutheran Family Service of Iowa Aurora Ave., Suite 401W, rbandale, IA ( ) ADVENT MEALS/SERVICES December 16th is our final OSL Family Dinner. The meals will be served starting at 6 p.m. with the services beginning at 7 p.m. Most of the food served will be purchased through a Thrivent Action Team project. A free will offering will be taken to help purchase sewing supplies for our mission work, which includes quilts, pillowcase dresses, and shorts and the shipping of those items. If you d like to make a tax deductible contribution, please make the check out to Our Savior LWML. Donations are not required in order to participate in the meals. We d love to see you there!
