Rosanna Anderson First Presbyterian Church, Nashville Betsy Ames Bellevue Presbyterian Church Hudson Neely Hillsboro Presbyterian Church Suzie Lane Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nashville Sandra Shepherd Brenthaven Cumberland Presbyterian Church Darlene Whorton First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna Contact any member of the planning team for more information. LEAD 2016 Highlights Brand new workshops for leaders of children, youth, and adults Keynoter, Dr. Choong-Leong Seow, speaking on Ecclesiastes Opportunities to network with other churches over lunch 2 workshops on young adult ministry Important workshop on the 2016 General Assembly How can our church get the most out of LEAD 2016? LEAD is intended for ALL leaders in your church. These ideas will be helpful in encouraging attendance. Designate a church coordinator to answer questions and handle publicity. Post copies of the first page of this packet around the church. Include it in your church s newsletter and website. Invite people face-to-face. Recommend specific workshops for each person depending on their interests and responsibilities. Set a goal to have at least 1 person from your church in each workshop. After LEAD, make plans for your church group to share their experiences with the whole church. Where do we park at Westminster? Two parking lots are available on Mayfair Road, just across the street from the church entrance. Additional parking is available behind the church from both Mayfair Road and Wilson Blvd. If entering from the back of the church, follow signs to elevator. Go up one floor, turn left and walk down the hallway to the Parlor for registration. Will there be walk-in registrations? Though our preference is for everyone to register by February 29, we will welcome walk-ins. Walk-up participants must bring a completed registration form and $30. How do we can cancel registrations? When someone must cancel, our hope is that arrangements can be made for another person from the same church to use the registration. If that is not possible, requests for refunds will be handled after the event. Send an requesting a refund to either anderson.rosanna@gmail.com or suzielane0@gmail.net. 2
3 KEYNOTE / WORKSHOPS KEYNOTE Ecclesiastes: Theology When Everything Is Out Of Control Choon-Leong Seow Well-known for saying, "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity" and "Eat, drink, and be merry," the book of Ecclesiastes has been judged to be either thoroughly pessimistic or optimistic. It is, in fact, a profoundly realistic book of how to live life when the world seems to be out of human control. Come and learn about the message of "the Preacher" in its social and economic context that is in many ways very much like our own. DR. CHOON-LEONG SEOW is a Distinguished Professor of Hebrew Bible at Vanderbilt Divinity School, Nashville. (A) A2 Remix, Rethink Faith Practices at Home Dr. Elizabeth Caldwell Family devotionals used to be a common practice in Christian homes - over a hundred years ago, but not so much today. CALDWELL is a Teaching Elder in the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee, Visiting Professor of Religious Education at Vanderbilt Divinity School and author of numerous books. This workshop will shed light on the importance of talking about issues related to race at church and to provide ideas on exploring these topics with your congregation. (A) CLAIRE COENEN is a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nashville. A4 Generosity and Stewardship Resources Rosanna Anderson Could your church benefit from a stewardship emphasis for children and families, but you're not sure where to begin? (C,Y) ROSANNA ANDERSON is a Teaching Elder in the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee. A5 General Assembly: Who, What, When, Where Why? Therese Howell The General Assembly meets every other year.
