1 Lay Servant Ministries Leading, Caring, and Communicating Leading: Lay Servants combine words and actions in leadership roles with their families, churches and communities. Caring: As Lay Servants combine words with deeds; they find ways to care for others. Communicating: All Lay Servants are called to communicate their faith. We want to be equipped to do it well as we serve as a representative of Jesus Christ. Certification Requirement Local Church Lay Servants: Pastor Approval 10 hours of Basic Course A refresher course once every 3 years Certified Lay Servants Pastor Approval Basic Course An Advanced Course An additional advanced course every 3 years Gulf Central District Training Event for Lay Servant EVENT BASIC CLASS ONLY Friday April 20 and Saturday April 21/2018 EVENT ADVANCE CLASSES ONLY Friday April 27 and Saturday April 28/2018 You only have to attend one weekend but may attend both. 2 Basic Course: First Week-end Only This basic course for Lay Servants provides the framework for all leadership in mission and ministry. This course will equip leaders to better lead not only in your church, but also in the local community. The following topics will be covered: Servant leadership, Spiritual Leadership, Caring ministries, Sharing your faith Leading meetings. ** Those taking this class need to bring the following items with them: Bible, Hymnal. Book of Discipline, Book- Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course Participant s Book by Sandy Jackson with Brian Jackson Order from Cokesbury.com Advanced Course: Spiritual Gifts *Each One a Minister**, a revised and enlarged edition of Carter's previous book by the same title, begins with a six-session study of Ephesians. Carter engages the reader in discovering the meaning of church, ministry and gifts - from the early church up to the present. As a follow-up to the Bible study, readers and study groups look at ways in which Gods gifts are practical as well as spiritual. (IF YOU WERE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF IRMA READ THE FOLLOWING) If you had previously enrolled in the September 2017 classes which were cancelled because of Irma, enroll again by checking the blank labeled Irma but DO NOT PAY. I have your book and materials. Exception, If you enrolled in the basic and wish to add an advance class the next weekend; enroll in the advance class as a new registration and pay for that class only. You would then be clear for both week-ends. IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE ENROLLING Previously, the District has been charging $35.00 per class: however, we were purchasing books and mailing them to you. I have lowered the rate to $25.00 per class but you will need to order the books yourself. Hopefully, this will provide you with the opportunity to read and study ahead of time. The books can be ordered through Cokesbury. You may even wish to download a book. If you can find the book on Amazon or another site at a lower price, it is O.K., but please be aware that you may be purchasing a different version.
