1 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not Term consider 2 Week equality 5 with God something to be used to His own advantage; 7 rather, He made himself nothing 26 May by 2017 taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV) Term 2 Week 7 15 June 2018 Our Vision To foster a Christ centred learning community where all students receive an education which enables them to know the Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Him and serve Him to their full potential. According to Scot McKnight, the English word faithfulness in our Bibles is actually the word faith in Greek. The translators seek to discern from the context which word is the best to use. In Galatians 5:22, Paul says that one of the fruits of the Spirit is faith but it equally could be translated faithfulness. Hence, if we equate faith to mean fruit, then faithfulness can mean trust over time or faith over time. Scot McKnight makes the point that, since faithfulness means trust over time, then faithfulness can t be measured in the morning of faith but only in the evening of life. It is similar to Paul s statement in 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Is there a difference between the terms Heroes of the Faith and Christ s faithful followers? To push the point a little further, our young people look for heroes in their life but are likely to look in the populist world of sport, media or movies to people who are considered successful in their chosen field. These heroes have earned their reputation by acquiring fame, status and wealth. So our young people use these heroes to compare themselves and others, dreaming of emulating these people while, potentially at the same time, negatively comparing and judging themselves. Our young people don t have heroes who are faithful over the journey. Ours is a society which prizes instantaneousness, instant gratification, physical beauty and recognition over character, integrity, service and sacrifice. The common adage I want it and I want it now reflects the thinking of young people. Anyone over 25 is deemed irrelevant. We need to develop the Christian faith as being a journey of faith and the longer the journey, the more faith is developed. Gary Brummell
2 A PRESENTS COMMUNITY NEWS TERM 2 WEEK 7 ALL SCHOOL NEWS GROW RULE FOR THE WEEK: Move Safely Next week we will focus on building community by moving safely. When we move safely, we keep ourselves and others safe. We show consideration for others. Moving safely looks like: walking to the left, using the footpath and pedestrian crossing. When waiting for a train or bus, we listen to instructions, we wait behind the yellow lines, or away from the kerb. In a train, bus or corridor, we use inside voices. Let s build community, wherever we are and move safely. Get it? Got it? Gotcha! MUSIC LESSONS Regents Park Christian School offers engaging musical instrument tuition for Primary and Secondary students no need to drive students to lessons! e currently have spaces for violin, singing, and guitar students. Our highly experienced tutors take the time to understand exactly what your student needs. Please contact Mr Chavura for more information. STAFF CAR PARK ON REGENT STREET Parents are reminded that the car park (Regent Street side) is for staff only. There will be two Visitor car parking spaces made available for parents with appointments only. Please do not enter this carpark, even if it is raining. PART-TIME BUS DRIVERS NEEDED The school has a vacancy for a part-time bus driver. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growing school community and work in a supportive and friendly environment! Are you an experienced bus driver looking for part-time work? We need one or more new drivers for our morning and/or afternoon bus runs. We currently operate 25 seat automatic Mitsubishi Rosa buses during student school weeks. 4 COMMUNITY NEWS TERM 2 WEEK 7 RETURN AND EARN PRIMARY NEWS Mrs Denholm returned another 300 containers, so our new tally is 3420 containers returned and $342 raised for Compassion. This is an amazing effort and so easy! We are modeling stewardship of our world s resources and demonstrating our commitment to using our gifts to bless others. Let s not give up. Remember bottles, cans and tetra paks sold in the school canteen can be placed in our yellow Return and Earn Bin next to the canteen. We will receive 10c for every container returned. If you would like to bring in any eligible containers from home, these would be gratefully received. Please do not place Milk, 2L Juice or Cordial containers, Yakult containers or containers manufactured overseas, or crushed containers, as these cannot be accepted. The staff members who have been returning these containers advise that they can only do this for one more term. If only a few parents would help with the return, it will make this project much more sustainable. Please contact the primary office if you would be willing to help. Visit for more information. DEVIL AT HOME, DARLING IN PUBLIC by Parenting Ideas One of the biggest frustrations for a parent is to see your child behave perfectly for other people but horribly for you. A child can be beautifully behaved at school but difficult to manage once he comes home. Your child may have perfect manners when visiting a friend's house but forget their manners the minute they walk in the front door. So why do kids of all ages behave well for others, and save their worst behaviours for their parent? It makes sense really... because we love them unconditionally. When they are fully accepted by you then they tend to show you their worst as well as their best side. It's a little like dating really. Most people put their best foot forward on a first date and begin to loosen up as the relationships get serious and they become more comfortable with each other. Michael Grose has written a blog post Devil at home, darling in public explaining this. He's also included 4 important discipline strategies that many people overlook, which are guaranteed to help you raise kids who can behave well at home and in public. Read the blog post for 12 June: YEAR 6 MOCK PARLIAMENT with JASON CLARE Last Friday, our local member, Mr Jason Clare, came to our school to run a Mock Parliament with our Year 6 students. It was a great consolidation of all their learning on government as they debated a bill to ban homework in Primary schools. The students were quite passionate in their speeches and spoke eloquently about the pros and cons of the bill. Interestingly, when allowed a conscious vote, they voted overwhelmingly to keep homework! RPCS s Jason and Clare welcomed our local member, Jason Clare. What a photo opportunity!!
5 COMMUNITY NEWS TERM 2 WEEK 7 CHINESE PARENTS BIBLE STUDY (MANDARIN) Every Wednesday from 1.45 pm pm at H4 during school terms. Contact - Michelle Lin at Heartbeat Church on mlin@rpcs.nsw.edu.au or PRIMARY ASSEMBLY Each Friday (9:00-9:30am) we hold Primary Assembly in the school hall. This is a time when Primary classes come together to celebrate God s goodness. Parents and friends are very welcome to attend, particularly when your child s class is rostered to share in Assembly. Stage Assembly dates are listed below for your convenience: Class Stage 2 Stage 1 Public Speaking Stage 3 Date 15 June 22 June 29 June 6 July PARENTS BREAKFAST & DEVOTION-PB&D PB&D is held every Tuesday in H4: Breakfast is provided from 8.30am, with a brief (15 min) devotion at 9am. Parents are welcome to stay for some or all of it. Our next Parents Breakfast and Devotion (PB&D) will be Tuesday, 19 June in Room H4. All parents are welcome! On Wednesday, 6 June 8 parents from PB & D and Chinese parents Group took a train to the city (lots of chatting and laughing along the way). They enjoyed a lunch in Chinatown and then attended a Saxophone Ensemble Concert at Sydney Conservatorium. What a relaxing day for parents! CRUNCH N SIP Good nutrition and healthy eating habits are an important part of learning. Each morning our students enjoy Crunch n Sip, when they will have a drink of water and eat a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables. We ask parents to support this by providing your child with a serving of fresh fruit or vegetables for their Crunch n Sip break. Students should also bring a drink bottle filled with water. Rather than sweets or packets of chips, why not pack a second Crunch n Sip for recess time? Each week, the Cancer Council of NSW provide us with nutrition snippets to encourage healthy habits.
