We had another successful year and are thankful to everyone who helped to make it a success. We have just purchased over 200 new readers for our children to use! We are hoping to get these covered by the end of the year so are holding a few Book Covering Working Bees over the next few weeks. 2 News from Mrs Hey Dear Parents, Last week I had the privilege of attending the two-day Principals Masterclass conference where we heard from several guest speakers about contemporary issues facing society and education. We live and work in complex times and as we celebrated Mass as a group of Principals last week, I was reminded by Bishop Vincent Long that we are called to welcome all, including the poor and marginalized into our school and church community. This idea of welcome and hospitality is one of the most noticeable assets of Trinity and was very evident on Monday when we welcomed more than 200 students from Japan for the day. It was a wonderful day of celebrating cultural diversity using the universal languages of smiling, play and food! We all enjoyed the experience of sheep shearing and whip cracking, along with our new Japanese friends. Thank you to the parents who helped with the BBQ! Kind Regards; Mrs Cathy Hey Mamre Meeting Please join us for the Mamre meeting on Monday at 6.30pm where we will discuss organisation for the end of year events, including the Christmas Concert BBQ. If you have any other Items for the agenda, please advise the office. Water and Road Safety On Thursday 15th November, Trinity will be having a Water and Road safety day for students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 6, who will not be attending the school swimming carnival. The day will include some normal classroom lessons along with a presentation from The Royal Lifesaving Society, activities around Water and Road safety and some fun outdoor activities. In light of the recent drought, we are limiting the water-based activities so as not to waste water, therefore the students do not need to wear swimmers. They can wear sports uniform for the day.

3 Attendance Our attendance for this fortnight is 80.6%. Our goal is 90% and congratulations go to Kinder and Year 2 who are in the green zone again! There is much evidence that regular attendance at school positively impacts on social and academic progress. Please keep working hard on attendance right up until the last day of school. 90.5% 83.1% 90.0% 83.2% Mobile Phones at School Students who bring mobile phones to school are required to sign them in to the office each morning upon arrival to school and collect them from the office as they leave. Thank you for reminding your children of this. Notice A reminder that 10 weeks written notice needs to be given if your child is moving schools. If this is not given, the fees still apply for that period. Car park and bus bay safety Growth Mindset tips for parents 1. Don t label yourself in a way that demonstrates a fixed mindset e.g. I m a terrible cook or I ve always been bad at maths. 2. Encourage them to enjoy learning for learning s sake - Tests may give you snapshots of what your child has learned so far, but over-focusing on scores and performance can encourage a fixed mindset. Talk to them about which areas of the curriculum have engaged them and foster their interest in these. 3. Set high standards but give help when it s needed - We should have high expectation of children s habits, effort and ability to grow. Making things too simple in order to give them an easy win is counter-productive in the long run. If children need support, for example equipment or to talk homework through, this help will support their success. A reminder that parents are not to drop off or pick from the bus bay area between the hours of 8.00am- 9.00am and 2.30pm -4.00pm. Also, please remember to keep the no parking zones of the car park free during the signposted times to allow easy drop off. 69.0% 73.9% 79.7%

4 Sacred Space Sunday, 11 th November, 2018: Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark This poor widow has put more in than all who contributed. Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in a great deal. A poor widow came and put in two small coins, the equivalent of a penny. Then he called to his disciples and said to them, I tell you solemnly, this poor widow has put more in than all who have contributed to the treasury; for they have all put in money they had over, but she from the little she had has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on. The willingness to give all that one has is the central theme of today's readings. They offer us three models. Jesus is the ultimate example of heroic generosity. He first offered himself as expiation for our sin. Now, as the eternal high priest, he stands before God as our mediator, pleading on our behalf, bringing salvation to those who eagerly await him. It is interesting to note that the other two models of selfless giving are widows, individuals who are doubly disadvantaged by the patriarchal societies of which they are members. Their generosity is religiously inspired, and it comes from women who had the least material possessions to give. This kind of giving requires that we reach deep into ourselves and almost strip ourselves of our hold on life, and that we do this for religious reasons. The giving that is pictured in today's readings is nothing less than heroic generosity. God will not be outdone in generosity. Sometimes we become the beneficiaries of obvious blessing, as was the case in the story of the woman of Zarephath who was granted a year's supply of floor and oil. At other times, we simply continue living life as usual, like the woman in the temple who was unaware of the commendation that Jesus had given her. The truly generous do not look for reward. They carry out their responsibilities and place the rest in God's hands. We have been asked to support their annual hamper and Christmas gift appeal. Donations of non- perishable food items that are still in date and children s gifts will be collected from us on Thursday, 6 th December. If possible, it would be lovely if gifts could be wrapped and labelled with the gender and age of the child for whom the gift is intended. Should there be gifts or food remaining they are then given to other conferences in our Diocese for distribution. Thank you for your continuing support of this outreach into our local community. 6 Between now and 6 March 2019, the Catholic Bishops of Australia are asking everyone to share their voices. Something like this hasn t happened for over eighty years. In fact, it is the highest form of official gathering that a church in a particular country can have. It is called a Plenary, and as this meeting will take place in 2020, the process is being called Plenary Bishop Vincent Long, the Bishop of Parramatta, particularly wants to hear from us. He is asking us to forward submissions to the national church, but he is also asking us to let him know what we think. He doesn t want to wait till 2021 for the Plenary Council to conclude. We, as a diocese will start acting in 2019 based on what is shared. So speak boldly and with passion! The national dialogue started in May 2018 around the question: What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time? The four main stages of Plenary 2020 are: Listening Sessions: Now till 6 March 2019 Discerning, Developing & Testing Themes: May 2019 to Dec 2019 Drafting Council Program and Documents. Meetings Held (2020 & 2021) Implementation: 2021 and beyond Together, we are on a journey of listening to God by listening to one another. All people are invited to engage in Listening and Dialogue Encounters which are an open and inclusive experience of listening, dialogue and discernment about the future of the Catholic Church in Australia. Listening and Dialogue Encounter Welcome to the Plenary Council s first stage of preparation Listening and Dialogue. This first stage of preparation will continue until Ash Wednesday The Listening and Dialogue Encounter is an opportunity to get together a group of friends, family or colleagues and spend some time thinking and talking about your experiences of faith, life and the Church. Everyone is invited to respond to the question: What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?

7 Everyone s experience of faith and the Church is unique and it is important that the Plenary Council hear responses from as many people as possible. How can all people be involved? The Listening and Dialogue Encounter can happen in many ways. You can get a few of your friends and family together at a time and place that suits you. Additionally, check out what is happening in your local parish. Your voice is important. Speak boldly and with passion, listen with an open and humble heart. With faith and guided by God s Holy Spirit, we journey together, toward the future. What else can I do to prepare for the Plenary Council?
