December 2, 2015 The Mosaic Volume 29 Issue 23 RLBC s New Mission and Vision Statement The congregation adopted the new Mission & Vision statement Sunday, November 22, by an overwhelming majority.

1 December 2, 2015 The Mosaic Volume 29 Issue 23 RLBC s New Mission and Vision Statement The congregation adopted the new Mission & Vision statement Sunday, November 22, by an overwhelming majority. Our team is grateful for everyone who played an important role in bringing the mission statement to fruition, especially the task force that did the writing (Doug Washington, Chair, David Doom, Bettie Meachum, Kristine Ruddle, Tim Schaefer, and Harry Wooten) and the 92 people who attended the lunch workshop on October 18th to give their input. The church completed the entire process in one month, which was a very ambitious timeline, but the Transition Team was confident that the congregation could do it! There are two more Wednesday night sessions in our Connections Focus featuring speakers from our ministry connections. We have a session on Wednesday, Dec 9th, featuring Doug Washington speaking about a Cup of Water, and a speaker from Dallas Christian Women s Job Corp. Our last session on Wednesday, January 6th, will feature Dennis Turnbull speaking about Youth Believing in Change and a presenter from Cornerstone Ministries. The Transition Team is working on plans for the next stage of our interim process which will begin in January. More details will follow soon. The Team feels great about all that the church has accomplished this year, and we are grateful for everyone s active participation and support!...let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Like RLBC on Facebook or Follow RLBC on Twitter GETTING TO KNOW OUR CONNECTIONS The Education Division welcomes a new Adult Sunday School class beginning with the new year. Scott Bryant will be teaching Foundation Stones with Homer Terry as an alternate/substitute. Over the next few weeks, our transition focus will be on the various ministries with which we are connected. Guest speakers from our current connections will be invited to share the mission of their organizations during our Mid-Week Services. On Wednesday, December 9, we will learn more about these ministries: Dallas Christian Women's Job Corp Christian Women s Job Corps, a ministry of Woman s Missionary Union, is dedicated to touching and changing lives by assisting women in becoming self-sufficient and independent. This is a national organization with over 150 sites in 34 states with more being started every day. There are three things each site has in common: each is operated in a Christian context; each has Bible Study as a major part of the curriculum; each program pairs participants with Christian mentors to serve as a spiritual and personal guide. A Cup of Water A Cup of Water, working in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Dallas, is focused on life s most basic need water. But to significantly cut down disease rates in the developing world, water is just the first step. In some communities, they build latrines; at the very least, and promote simple hand-washing stations made with readily-available materials. Clean water can greatly alleviate the world s disease burden, but only with education and hygienic practice. They have led efforts with the Sekondi-Takoradi Rotary Club in Ghana, Africa since 2007.

December 13 10:55 a.m. Worship: Third Sunday of Advent Sanctuary Tidings an Advent service of word and song featuring the Sanctuary Choir with homilies by Laura Keller, Tim Schaefer & Layne Smith. The service will include: Comfort, Comfort Ye My People, arr. Howard Helvey, Tidings of Comfort, arr. Carl Nygaard, Jr., a lovely setting of the Nancy Buckley poem, There Is Faint Music by composer Dan Forrest, a 16 th century text in Spanish and English by Christina Whittier Thomas, No la debemas dormer (No, we must not sleep), and David Dickau s exciting piece, Joy! December 16 December 20 10:55 a.m. December 23 6:15 p.m. Mourning Light Service & White Gift Offering Family Hall We will gather at 5:30 p.m. for a meal of soup and bread. A service of healing and wholeness for those who mourn during the Advent and Christmas seasons will be held at 6:15 p.m. We will receive communion as a part of this service. Bring a gift of canned goods or nonperishable food, wrapped in white to bring forward at communion. Gifts of baby food and baby cereal are most welcome. (childcare provided) Worship: Fourth Sunday of Advent Sanctuary No regular Wednesday activities December 24 6:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Service Sanctuary Carols, Candlelight, and Communion (childcare provided) December 25 Christmas Day Church Office Closed Midweek activities will resume on January 6, 2016.
