Anyone who would like to cut out tags for the tree is invited to gather on Tuesday, November 7 at 8:30 am in the First Floor Conference Room. Bring your favorite scissors. This is kindergarten 101, takes about 1-1/2 hours and is lots of fun. Please come and meet a new friend. Many hands make light work. Questions??? Call Shellee Micko at PARISH NEWS All Saints Day, Wednesday, November 1 Holy Day of Obligation Masses: 7:45 am (Main Church) Noon, School Mass 5:30 pm All Soul s Day Evening of Remembrance Thursday, November 2, 6:30 pm, Chapel We will have a special Evening of Remembrance on All Soul s Day this week. We will hold up in prayer those from our parish who have died over the past year and other family members and friends. A short reception will follow. All are welcome. We Remember In November, we call our deceased loved ones into our minds, hearts and liturgical celebrations in a special way. The Feast of All Saints (November 1 st ) and the Feast of All Souls (November 2 nd ) usher us into the spirit of the month, and we continue to hold these loved ones in our communal prayers and consciousness all month long. To celebrate this month of All Souls in a tangible way, we invite you to bring a small, framed photo of your deceased loved one(s) to church. You may place them on the glass tables in the gathering space, around the Mary Statue or on the wooden stand, both in the Tabernacle Chapel. We also invite you to inscribe the name of your loved one(s) in the Book of Remembrance, which will rest on the stand next to the Daily Mass Chapel. Bring your photo(s) as early as October 25 th ; we ask that you retrieve them by November 26 th, so the church can be prepared for the Advent season. We look forward to this time of shared remembrance. Please pray for David Hietpas who died recently. May he rest in peace with our risen Savior. Thanks for Helping Thank you to Katie Culligan, Laurie Meyers, Mary Jo Robinson-Jamison, Teresa Seifert, and John Topic who spent 6 hours of their time on Saturday, making over 550 cinnamon & caramel rolls. Thank you to the Coffee & Donut Volunteers who served them, and a special thanks to Betty Culligan who spent extra time helping us clean up after the 10:30 Coffee & Donuts. Jacob Cleveland Confirmed Andrew Johnson Received into full communion (changing church tradition) and confirmed in the Catholic faith at the 8:30 Mass today. Please continue to welcome them. Thanks to parishioners who have mentored and accompanied them through the preparation. Are you interested in adult Confirmation? For a variety of reasons, a good number of adult Catholics were never Confirmed. As witnessed by Jacob and Andrew, now is a good time for those who are ready. Need more information? Introduction to Centering Prayer: Be Still and Know that I am God Saturday, November 4, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm There are so many ways for Catholics to pray. People find practices that help them live as faithful disciples. Many in our parish community have a practice of Centering Prayer. It is a way of being that allows the person to rest in God s love and peace every day. Minnesota Contemplative Outreach will present an introductory workshop day next Saturday. Please preregister by contacting Phyllis Hamill-Little in the parish office no later than Wednesday this week. Cost is $25 including lunch. Scholarships are available. God s Gift to the World: An Advent Retreat Saturday, November 18, 9:00-3:00, Lumen Christi Sponsored by Twin Cities Ignatian Associates Fr. Kevin Schneider, SJ is our presenter. He is a member of the Jesuit Community at Creighton Preparatory High School and is the director of the spiritual programs for the adult community at Creighton Preparatory School. A person who has lived a similar loss can be an especially comforting, resourceful companion on the journey. At Lumen Christi, a parishioner who experienced the stillbirth of her child offers support as-needed to parents who are grieving similar losses. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. To avoid the holiday rush, collections for new and gently used coats will be taken at our church and school between November 4 and 12. Lumen Christi Parish Support Appeal How Do We Spend Our Time? Out of 168 hours in a week, most of us have about 40 hours of free time. Recent statistics shows we spend it in the following manner: 16 hours/week watching television or on computer 6 hours/week dining out and social engagements 5 hours/week shopping and personal pleasures 4 hours/week watching movies and reading 3 hours/week on hobbies 2 hours/week on sports and exercise 1 hour a week on volunteer work & religious activities combined 3 hours a week on other activities How do you use your free time?
