Every day, children in our community go to bed hungry because their families can t afford the food they need to grow. Right here in St. Paul, one in five families struggles with hunger. Neighborhood House is committed to providing fresh, healthy foods to participants at their Food Markets, but the need is great. Help to ensure that hungry children, families, and seniors in our neighborhood have the food they need to be healthy and happy. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your donations of 850 lbs. of food December Families Moving Forward Arrives January Lumen Christi will support and house families who are experiencing homelessness starting next week. If you have not signed up yet check out: LumenChristicc.org for the link to Sign Up Genius or Get Involved/Families Moving Forward to find out more about this program.
3 LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Pastoral Musings ~ Christmas 2018 The shadows fall. The stars appear. The birds begin to sleep. Night embraces the silent half of earth. A vagrant, a destitute wanderer with dusty feet, finds his way down a new road. A homeless God, lost in the night, without papers, without identification, without even a number, a frail, expendable exile lies down in desolation under the sweet stars of the world and entrusts Himself to sleep. -Thomas Merton, Hagia Sophia n pastor time, the cycles which nourish I happen only after the child has been born. Once the Christmas machine has wound down, I can find time to warmly recall the people who have nurtured this little life of mine. I am completing twelve years in the parish, 40 in the ministry. It has been an unexpected, and increasingly exhilarating ride. Much has changed in the Church since ordination -- along with my own journey, and this mysterious world in which we live. Good friends and colleagues have passed away this year and yet they remain a part of me and I am for ever grateful for having them in my life. Change methinks is all about endings and beginnings and the necessary relationship between the two. I am hopeful that what I may have lost is now found in bits of wisdom. Christmas always causes me to delight in the little of life the brilliant sunshine on bitter cold winter days, the always unexpected response of parishioners to the needs of those on the margins, the hints and guesses of maturity I see in my grandniece and grandnephews, the challenge and support of my priestbuddies, the ever-faithful love of my family and the many kindnesses of God all of which I so often take for granted. I do not want to overlook you. I pray that amid the general harriedness of a homeless God in a wearied world that he might have found a home in your heart this season. Father Paul Today s Readings Finding God The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew s Gospel and into our churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive story so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the king of the world that stretches to the magi s home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our gifts. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Prayer for the New Year God of every time and season, you give us another year to fill with new beginnings. We have so many dreams for this year, so many promises we want to keep, so many new habits we want to learn. Yet so much from last year is still left undone. Erase our failings of the old year, clear away the decay left by our complacency, and wipe clean the slate of broken covenants from the year gone by. As the calendar changes and the old gives way to the new, help us not to dwell on the past but to use its memory to move us ever forward to your kingdom. Renew our hope and strengthen our resolve so that we may serve you faithfully through every season and walk joyfully each day of the year. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Diana Macalintal Financial Stewardship Thank you for your gift of $6, for the Missionary Cooperation Plan. You personally share in the Good News of Christ proclaimed to the world. Archdiocese of St. Paul & Mpls Center for Mission Your donation to Lumen Christi helps us continue our ministries. Thank you.
