Palm Sunday, April 14 Standard Weekend Worship Schedule Maundy Thursday, April 18 10:30 a.m.... St. Andrew s Village 12 noon... Great Hall (no luncheon) 7 p.m.... Sanctuary With First Communion Skipping Stone Celebration. Join Jesus as he gathers with his disciples, on the night that he is betrayed, for his Last Supper. We will celebrate with those receiving their First Communion in the evening and will wait and watch in silence as the altar is stripped at noon and 7 p.m., reminding us of Jesus as he is stripped, whipped and taken to prison. Nursery and childcare available. Good Friday, April 19 Good Friday Interactive Worship 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.... begins outside the Great Hall Walking the Story of Jesus This indoor/outdoor, all-ages interactive worship experience traces the journey of Jesus beginning with Palm Sunday in the Great Hall and ending at the Tomb in the Sanctuary. All are welcome. Bring your strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and walkers. Invite friends, neighbors, those who know the story and those new to the story. Begin the experience in the Marketplace 30 minutes before each service. Good Friday Passion Service 7 p.m.... Sanctuary The theme Tree of Glory is expressed through deeply moving music presented by St. Andrew s Choir, Orchestra and Youth Ensemble. Scripture readings, music and sermon come together to focus our hearts and minds on God s great love and sacrifice for us.

The 9 and 10 a.m. Easter worship services are very well attended at St. Andrew s. To improve parking and seating during worship, please consider attending one of the other Easter worship opportunities. 3 Caring for Creation Weekend March 30/31 The Environmental Stewardship Team (EST) presents Caring for Creation 2019 on March 30/31. The weekend will feature information tables: Household Tips to Help Creation Fix It Clinic, Compost Bins, and Rain barrels by Washington County The Home Energy Squad Small Things in Woodbury (Fair Trade Store) Solar information by MNIPL (Minnesota Interfaith Power & Light) Monarchs & Milkweeds presented by U of M master gardeners Costa Farm s CSA Program (Community Supported Agriculture), Electric bikes and vehicles Live animals Touch the Earth Lightly Touch the earth lightly, use the earth gently, nourish the life of the world in our care: Gift of great wonder, ours to surrender, trust for the children tomorrow will bear. Special Congregational Meeting The St. Andrew s Lutheran Church Council, pursuant to the St. Andrew s Evangelical Lutheran Church Constitution, is calling a Special Congregational Meeting on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The purpose of the meeting is: To vote to approve the Hope Lives building project by Shirley Erena Murray God of all living, God of all loving, God of the seedling, the snow and the sun, Teach us, deflect us, Christ reconnect us, using us gently, and making us one. 4 Children, Youth & Family Ministry Growing Family Faith: Parent Education Series Monday, April 8, 6-7:30 p.m. in Sanctuary Room 102 We re offering two parent education events on one night! Start with dinner, then choose one workshop on strengthening and growing faith in families: Little Steps, Big Faith explores the active brains and bodies of infant and toddlers, how they are designed to learn, imitate, and remember, and faith practices you can use with your little ones. Led by Dr. Dawn Rundman, psychologist, resource developer, and author. Making Room for Faith in Busy Times is for parents of on-the-go families who find it difficult to make time for faith. Explore how to engage faith with meaningful practices within the routines of daily life. Facilitated by Mark Jackson, Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry. First Communion Skipping Stone Workshop: April 6, 9:30-11:45 a.m. in the Great Hall Celebration: Maundy Thursday, April 18, 7 p.m. Worship in the Sanctuary Holy Communion brings the fellowship of believers to the Lord s Table. The First Communion workshop is an experiential opportunity for children (grades 1-5) to learn more about this special practice and prepare them to receive it. At least one parent/guardian attends with their child; other family members are welcome. Children then receive their first Communion during a worship service (selected on the registration form). Family Water Park Weekend April at Metropolis Resort, Eau Claire, WI Cost: $20 per person (ages 3 and up), plus lodging and transportation. Join us for a weekend of fun and faith formation with your child(ren) while away from home. There will be a meetand-greet Friday evening, dinner and worship on Saturday, and the rest of the time is for your family to relax and play. Designed for families with children ages 3 to 8 (and older or younger siblings). All are especially welcome to volunteer with the Good Friday Interactive Worship - Walking the Story of Jesus, including helping with our Jerusalem Marketplace, passing out worship bulletins, and assisting in the kitchen. Become a cabin leader, be a part of the worship team, write Bible studies, or create and lead large group games. There are five training sessions; all are required. Funeral Lunch Helpers Needed At St. Andrew s, we serve a lot of funeral lunches; it s part of our mission of hospitality. We d love to have you join our team of fun, friendly people! If interested, or if you have questions, please Vickie Johnston, vjohnston@saintandrews.org. When your address has been added to our list, you will receive an with the date and time of an upcoming funeral lunch. If you are interested in helping with that lunch, just reply to the ; if not, you do not need to do anything. Our tasks include washing and setting tables, making lemonade and coffee, making salads, traying bars and cookies, and cleanup. No major cooking involved! Volunteer at Worship Volunteers are the first and often most important touch point for visitors and regular church goers alike. If you are interested in serving as a greeter, usher, valet, or as a hospitality volunteer for the traditional worship service, please contact Laurie Tanner at ltanner@saintandrews.org. 5

Discipleship The Hard Stuff: Faithful Conversations About Issues That Divide Us Led by Pastors Mike Carlson and Sarah with Rev. Rolland Hayes and Dr. Jim Moline Mondays, April 29 through May :15 p.m. Sanctuary You ll get tools to engage in tough conversations, challenge what you believe and reengage that belief from a faithful perspective. We ll have speakers, panel and small group conversation. All are welcome. Design and Planting Techniques Tuesday, April 23, 6-7 p.m. Great Hall Room 2 Do you like the containers of flowers in front of the church? If so, here is an opportunity to make your own containers. Thrive vs. Just Survive. Master Gardener, Cynthia Hammel who designs and plants the containers around our campus, will demonstrate design and planting techniques, and a lucky attendee will take the finished product home. She will also share information about using Native and Pollinator plants. Prayer School Wednesdays, April 24-May p.m. Sanctuary Room 204 Join Pastor Straiton for a four-week Prayer School. Our goal is to increase and enhance the power and practice of prayer. Along with presenting a fresh perspective on the purpose and practice of prayer, you will also learn how to pray a Daily Prayer Liturgy created specifically for St. Andrew s. At its center, prayer is simply being present to the presence of God. There is no fee for this class; however, registration is required.
