Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Hymn Healer of Our Every Ill healer of our every ill Used with permission, One License A Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free spirit. 2
Hymn How Great Thou Art o store gud We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness Blessed be the Holy Trinity, one God, who gathers us in our brokenness, binds together our shattered souls, and through Jesus Christ makes our fragmented lives whole. Amen Let us confess our sin and receive God s promise of mercy and hope. Silence for reflection 3
Merciful God, For mocking others who are different from us, for standing by while the world suffers, for ignoring your call to care for all of creation, for the sinful things we know we do and the things we are not aware of, we turn to you, gracious and merciful Lord. Forgive, redeem and restore us and all creation. Creator, forgive us. Jesus, redeem us. Holy Spirit, heal us. By his wounds you have been healed. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Anthem 9:00 Mercy Craig Courtney High School Choir 10:30 Jesus in the Morning; Jesus Loves the Little Children; Joy, Joy, Joy Traditional Children of the Preschools of St. Andrew s Prayer of the Day The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Loving God, thank you for your everlasting love. Your love changes every thing. In the light of your grace we find our life, breath and being. Help us to always remember that no matter how dark things become, you continue to radiate grace into our lives. Amen Hymn For the Beauty of the Earth dix 4 Continued on next page
4 For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth and friends above; for all gentle thoughts and mild: Refrain Children s Sermon Lesson Romans 8:19-23 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. *** We welcome children to Dock Children s Education at this time.*** Ensure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. See front of yellow bulletin insert for pickup locations. Anthem Creation Sings Getty and Townend; arr. Patti Drennan St. Andrew s Choir Lesson Isaiah 52:13-15 See, my servant shall prosper; he shall be exalted and lifted up, and shall be very high. Just as there were many who were astonished at him so marred was his appearance, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of mortals so he shall startle many nations; kings shall shut their mouths because of him; for that which had not been told them they shall see, and that which they had not heard they shall contemplate. 5
Anthem 10:30 How Deep the Father s Love Townend/arr. Shackley New Dimension Singers Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Sacrament of Holy Baptism 10:30 Peyton Mae Townzen child of Kaitlyn and Ryan Townzen Calvin Solomon Valena Brooklyn Victoria Nelson Sophia Evelyn Nelson children of Arianna Valena-Nelson and James Nelson Hymn O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus ebenezer 6 Continued on next page
Holy Gospel Luke 23:32-43 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with Jesus. When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. And they cast lots to divide his clothing. And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one! The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, and saying, If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself! There was also an inscription over him, This is the King of the Jews. One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us! But the other rebuked him, saying, Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong. Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. He replied, Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise. The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. 7
Sermon Boundless Love Offering The Heavens Declare the Glory of God Offertory For the Beauty of the Earth For yourself, best gift divine to the world so freely giv n; agent of God s grand design, peace on earth and joy in heav n: Christ, our Lord, to you we raise this our sacrifice of praise. Pastor Michael D. Carlson Marcello/arr. Stephenson Handbells dix Prayers of the Church Words of Institution for the Sacrament of Holy Communion The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen We believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the bread and wine and grants us the gift of God s grace and forgiveness. All are welcome to receive this gift. White grape juice is available upon request. Gluten-free wafers are available at all stations at the front of the Sanctuary. 8
Communion Hymn Lord of Creation, to You Be All Praise! 1 Lord of creation, to you be all praise! Most mighty your working, most wondrous your ways! Your glory and might are beyond us to tell, and yet in the heart of the humble you dwell. slane 2 Lord of all power, I give you my will, in joyful obedience your tasks to fulfill. Your bondage is freedom, your service is song; and, held in your keeping, my weakness is strong. 3 Lord of all wisdom, I give you my mind, rich truth that surpasses man s knowledge to find. What eye has not seen and what ear has not heard is taught by your Spirit and shines from your Word. 4 Lord of all bounty, I give you my heart; I praise and adore you for all you impart; your love to inspire me, your counsel to guide, your presence to cheer me, whatever betide. 5 Lord of all being, I give you my all; if ever I disown you, I stumble and fall; but, sworn in glad service your word to obey, I walk in your freedom to the end of the way. Jack Copley Winslow Used with permission, One License A
Post-Communion Blessing The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. Amen Post-Communion Prayer Benediction God of abundance, in this meal you have shared with us your very being. You have restored our faith, forgiven our sins and have connected us to your universal church. May we use these gifts to share your love with all people. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Hymn I Sing the Mighty Power of God ellacombe Continued on next page 10
