2 OUR PRIEST ADMINISTRATOR Fr. Dwight s Message Church, Sunday is the Lord s DAY; not the Lord s HOUR! I put my phone on when the plane landed in LAX- Los Angeles and my phone was going crazy... And as I read, my blood ran cold! 155 messages... And children are dead... Some are injured... National news... And I am en route to Marysville. And the same terrible, disgusting heartbreak is visiting again... But this time, my people. The gun has again declared war on peace and on life - God's most profound gift in this world is made cheap... again! Part of me is angered into profound silence. Part of me is frustrated to be numbered now among the "shooting elect" - those schools in those areas - like Sandy Hook, Columbine that have spilt the innocent blood of our young people for reasons that are senseless to logic. And innocent death mocks us again and ridicules us for being feckless to make the hard decisions that will protect those we love in a place that should be free even from the scourge of violent death - a school! My heart goes out to the families of the victims And yes! My heart pangs for the family of the shooter. These families will forever suffer a gaping hole being left - in their hearts... for love, in their minds... For the senselessness of it all, and the questioning of what could have been done to prevent such a tragedy. This is my parish; these are my people! What more need be said? Is our community big enough, loving enough, like a sponge - to soak in the pain of our young people? Do they feel that each one of us or any of us are open enough to listen to them, to share their pain with us? Are we there for them? This is what concerns me as your priest here at this time of hurt and healing. We are here, I hope, ready and willing to love, to comfort, to support and to pray. We will be Church in every aspect of the word. But - The trust of our children have now and again been shattered. Now they will always be looking over their shoulders. Never comfortable, always suspicious, even of their own friends. And we, the adults in our community here in Marysville will have to deal with the warranted fear of innocent children. Any society that allows fear to breed in the innocent and the most vulnerable is a society that is seen to be found wanting. God help us as we try to heal our fragile and scared children who already have had to deal with too much in our society as it is! So, each of you, my dear people, hold your children close to you now and tonight and in the many nights to come. Let them feel your love and hear your heartbeats. Answer their questions with the truth and with reassurances of your love and protection for them. Soberly cherish their lives and yours and take nothing for granted... Not even your love of them. Share that openly with them. I pray that God grant eternal rest and eternal peace. I pray for an end to gun violence, for it is robbing us of our world's most precious resource - our children. I pray the halls of decision bustle again and that the right decisions be made based on life not death. But mostly, I pray that consolation, that can only come from the Holy Spirit, pervade every heart and heal every hurt. Come, AMAZING GRACE OF GOD, minister to us right now and fill every heart with what they need for healing! I AM HERE TO LOVE YOU! God Bless, Fr. Dwight

The Legion of Mary is a lay association dedicated to spreading the Gospel message through prayer, evangelization and works of mercy, under the special patronage of our Blessed Mother. Legion groups place themselves at the service of their pastor and work under the direction of a spiritual advisor. Fr. Dwight is the director of our group. Members meet once a week and agree to perform a couple of hours work each week. Evangelization is a primary focus. 5 From our Holy Father, Pope Francis Vatican City, Oct 28, 2014 / 10:58 am Pope Francis said that those waiting at the threshold of the Church without going inside are not true members of the Church which Jesus established and on whom it is built. We are citizens, fellow citizens of this Church. If we do not enter into this temple to be part of this building so that the Holy Spirit may live in us, we are not in the Church, the Pope told those present in the Vatican s Saint Martha guesthouse for his Oct. 28 daily Mass. Rather, we are on the threshold and look inside Those Christians who do not go beyond the Church s reception: they are there, at the door: 'Yes, I am Catholic, but not too Catholic.' The Pope centered his reflections on both the day's first reading from St. Paul s Letter to the Ephesians and the Gospel, taken from Luke, Chapter 6. In the first reading St. Paul explains to the Christians of Ephesus that they are no longer strangers, but have become fellow members of the house of God, which is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and has Jesus himself as the capstone. The Gospel reading recounts how Jesus, after spending the night in prayer, comes down from the mountain and calls the Twelve Apostles by name. By reflecting on the gospel reading, there are three clear actions that Jesus carried out when founding the Church, the Pope observed, saying that the first action is prayer, the second was choosing his disciples, and the third was welcoming and healing the crowds. Jesus prays, Jesus calls, Jesus chooses, Jesus sends his disciples out, Jesus heals the crowd. Inside this temple, this Jesus who is the corner stone does all this work: it is He who conducts the Church, the pontiff noted, explaining that the Church is built on the apostles. However, despite the fact that the Twelve were chosen by Jesus, they were all still sinners, the Pope said, explaining that although no one knows who sinned the most, there could have been one that sinned more than Judas did. Judas, poor man, is the one who closed himself to love and that is why he became a traitor. And they all ran away during the difficult time of the Passion and left Jesus alone. They are all sinners. But (Jesus) chose (regardless). And Jesus, the Pope added, wants everyone to be inside of the Church he founded, not as strangers passing through, but rather with the rights of a citizen where they have roots. The person who stands at the threshold of the Church looking in but not entering has no sense of the full love and mercy that Jesus gives to every person, Francis said, adding that proof of this can be seen in Jesus' relationship with Peter. Even though Peter denies the Lord he is still the first pillar of the Church, the pontiff explained. For Jesus, Peter s sin was not important: he was looking at (Peter s) heart. But to be able to find this heart and heal it, he prayed. It is Jesus who prays and heals, Pope Francis noted, saying that it is something he does for each one of us. We cannot understand the Church without Jesus who prays and heals, he said, praying that the Holy Spirit would help all to understand that the Church draws her strength from Jesus prayer which can heal us all.
