Remarkable Moments This Friday, all BCE schools will be acknowledging the remarkable moments of learning growth within their community. We will be celebrating the significant learning at GA in a special way! The excitement has been building over the last few weeks and with over 300 parents attending, it promises to be a truly remarkable celebration of learning. Joining us for the celebration is Helen Leeson, Senior Education Officer for schools in the south region. A big thank you in advance to the Remarkable Moments staff team who have worked hard to make tomorrow memorable. Being the face of Christ At yesterday s assembly, 4 Green led us in prayer, challenging us to be the face of Christ. It was a pertinent reflection as we approach the end of the school year. There are many people in our communities who find this time of year difficult due to their personal and/or financial circumstances. One way in which we can show face of Christ to those less fortunate, is to donate to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. Please consider donating this year to help make a wish come true for a family. A big thank you to Mr Trimble and 4 Green for leading our community with this initiative. Prayers Please Please keep our Executive Director, Pam Betts in your prayers. Pam s mother Joan passed away on Saturday. We will donate to Joan s preferred cause as per her wishes from our community. Parent and Friends AGM Students arriving after the bell must be signed in at the office. The P&F annual general meeting will take place next Tuesday 14 November at 7pm. All parents are welcome to attend. The meeting will comprise of the sharing of reports, general business and the election of a new P&F Executive. I encourage you to be involved in the P&F. It is a wonderful group of hard working parents and a great forum to share ideas to help make GA the best school it can be! Peace be with you this coming week. 2 2018 School Leaders APA News Virtue APRE News Today we interviewed nine of our current Year 5 students who were the shortlisted applicants for the positions of School Captain and Vice-Captain for the 2018 school year. The calibre of every single one of these young people is a true testament to the love and support of their families over the years. The school leaders will be announced to the community at a later date following the selection process for House Captains. Year 6 Reflection Day Next Thursday 16 November our Year 6 students will participate in their Reflection Day at Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club. This day is always a highlight for our Year 6 students as they reflect on their journey through primary school and prepare to transition to secondary school in There are always lots of laughs as they travel back in time and look at photos from when they were little Prep students. The day concludes with a liturgy as the students give thanks for their time at Guardian Angels and all the people who have supported them along the way. Swimming Carnival Next Friday 17 November our students in Years 4-6 will participate in the annual swimming carnival at Wynnum State School s pool. Let s hope for fine weather. Thanks to Steve Luke for once again organising the carnival. When you are humble you don t act as if you are more important than other people. You are happy to serve others and think other people s needs are important. We don t expect others or ourselves to be perfect. We are practising Humility when we: Consider the needs of others as important as our own Apologise and make amends when we hurt others Learn from our mistakes and keep changing for the better Ask for help when you need it Are grateful instead of boastful. Remembrance Day This Saturday 11 November is Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day honours all the men and women who died while fighting for their country during wartime. The 11 of November is chosen as the day we remember these soldiers because this is the day World War I ended in The red poppy is the flower of Remembrance and is worn on this day as a mark of respect. On Remembrance Day we remember with thanksgiving those who made the supreme sacrifice for us in time of war. We pray that the offering of their lives may not have been in vain. We dedicate ourselves to the cause of justice, freedom and peace; and for the wisdom and strength to build a better world. Christmas Liturgy This year our Christmas Liturgy will be held on Monday 20 November at 6.30pm, in the Mt Carmel Shed. The Liturgy will be led by musician John Burland. All children will be involved in this celebration and are busy learning songs, actions and other parts to make this a wonderful celebration for our community. All students will need to wear Christmas clothing for the celebration. No reindeer antlers are to be worn please. End of Year Liturgy This year we will celebrate our End of Year Liturgy on Friday 1 December at 11am in the MC Shed. As part of this Liturgy we will be farewelling many families from our Guardian Angels School community. Each of these families will be called to the front of the Liturgy to receive a farewell blessing. It would be lovely if parents or other siblings (who have attended Guardian Angels ) be present to accompany the last member of the family at this special time. Please continue to advise the school office if your child/children will not be returning to Guardian Angels School next year.

3 APRE News General News Volunteer Thankyou Liturgy and Morning Tea Volunteer Thank you Liturgy and Morning Tea On Wednesday 15 November at 9am in the Mt Carmel Shed we will gather to give thanks to God for the many gifts that have been bestowed on us during 2017, followed by Morning Tea in the GA Hall. We will acknowledge with gratitude all the time and effort that so many parents and caregivers have given to our school community through: reading support, classroom support, sporting team assistance, attendance on school excursions, tuckshop etc. May you be richly rewarded for your generosity. Parents and Caregivers who have volunteered at our school this year are invited to attend a Thank you Liturgy in the Shed Prayer on Wednesday 15 November at 9am They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. followed by morning tea in the hall. Arrive Late/Left Early Blessings for the coming week ALLE Receipting Arrive Late/Left Early Debbie Young From Tuesday 14 November, our school will implement ALLE Attendance Receipting in the front office on both campuses. ALLE Attendance Receipting is a software application which allows students to be electronically signed in to school as a Late Arrival or signed out of school as an Early Departure on a Student Kiosk. Our office staff will be on hand initially to assist. Students will then be given a receipt to hand to their teacher advising them that they have been marked present. Similarly, should you be collecting your child early from school, you may now use the system to record their departure. Parents who proceed directly to classrooms will be re-directed by teachers to contact staff in the main office for a receipt to be issued. Help Needed Please Good record keeping is paramount in ensuring the safety of our children, in particular in the event of emergency evacuations or lockdowns. The adoption of ALLE Attendance Receipting is a tool by which both teachers and staff can be confident that students attendance records are accurate and up to date. 5 P&F News The P&F Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 14 November. At the AGM, all committee positions will be declared vacant, and a new 2018 committee will be elected. Joining the P&F is a great way for parents to get involved in the school community. If you are considering taking on a role within the P&F and would like to know more, please pwynpandf@bne.catholic.edu.au for details. The P&F wishes to thank Averil Gallagher for her amazing assistance with gathering quotes for the oval, and putting together a grant application. We have appreciated Averil's ongoing commitment to this project throughout the year. GA Swim Caps are now on sale! Caps are just $10, and can be ordered through pwynpandf@bne.catholic.edu.au - Just let us know your child's name, class group and quantity required. Uniform News The Uniform Shop is open Mondays from 7.30am to 10.30am and Thursdays from 1pm 4pm. Online ordering is available. Password for online ordering: gap2015. School Banking News Great work students who have earned their 10 tokens to claim a reward. Due to the popularity of banking rewards, there have been some delays with delivery. Prizes have been ordered and will be delivered to the classroom ASAP. Last day for banking will be Thursday 16 November. 5

6 Minnie Vinnie News Guardian Angels Christmas Appeal It s time for our annual Guardian Angels Christmas Hamper Appeal!! During the rest of Term Four we would like to invite each child to be a Minnie Vinnie and donate to our appeal. We encourage you to send along your donations and hand them in to your class teachers. Your donations will be put into Christmas Hampers by Brother Bernie and his helpers. The hampers will then be distributed directly to needy families within the Wynnum Parish in the lead up to Christmas. Donations could include canned food: (spaghetti, baked beans, fruit and vegetables), packets: (pasta, rice, and biscuits) drinks: (fruit juice, cordial, soft drink) and Christmas pudding, cakes, etc. We ask that you check the use-by dates on donated food. Items that are kept in the fridge are not suitable. If you would like to donate toys as a gift, please wrap them and clearly label them with boy or girl and the appropriate age. e.g. Boy 6 years.
