2 Here are some of the details how you can access these: Holy Cross School Website Our Holy Cross School Website provides the latest information news and events. To receive notifications of school newsletter and latest news, you are encouraged to complete the subscribe now section. Steps to do this: 1) Log on to Holy Cross School website (link below) or search Holy Cross Primary Glenwood 2) click on the links tab 3) click on the newsletter link 4) enter details on Subscribe You may wish to subscribe more than one person so that both parents can receive notifications. To help parents keep in the loop, Holy Cross Primary Glenwood recently joined Facebook. To access our school Facebook page simply click on the link or search Holy Cross Primary Glenwood Facebook You will see this image on the front page! Grade Websites - (Each grade has their own website) Each student is now able to access their grade website. The website has been created by the class teachers to assist the students with their learning throughout the year and will only be accessed by Holy Cross students. This year the website will include a grade calendar for important events as well as links and activities that relate to the learning that is happening in their learning space. We recommend that you save the website in your favourites or bookmark the page so it is easily accessible for the students. SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - AVAILABLE FORTNIGHTLY Due to the launch and upgrade of School Website, Facebook, Grade Websites, Twitter and our school newsletters, we are able to keep parents regularly up to date. Therefore, our school newsletters will now be available fortnightly. If you subscribe to the school website you will receive automatic notifications of the newsletter or you can access them from the school website. If we have any additional/urgent information to communicate to parents we will continue to these to parents and provide a hard copy to the families who have requested hard copies of newsletters. 3 Everyone is invited! On Sunday 25th February, The ihelp Holy Cross Helping Hands group will be leading St John XXIII 9:00 am congregation in Mass. Our students will be sharing their gifts with our church community in a range of ways: singing, dancing, offertory, altar servers, collection, welcoming parishioners and reading the prayers of the faithful. After mass our students will be holding a cake stall. All the money raised from this cake stall will go towards helping the senior community within our parish. We hope everyone can support ihelp by attending 9:00 am mass and purchasing a yummy cake from the cake stall! COMMUNION St John XXIII Parish Mass Times: Saturday Vigil 6.00pm Sunday Masses 7.30am, 9.00am, 10.30am & 6.00pm Morning Masses Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat at 9.00am Parish Mass at Holy Cross This week, Year 6 will be attending Parish Mass in the Library. Mass will begin at 10 am. All are welcome to attend. Friday Friday will be led by our Year 4 students in the Multi Purpose Learning Centre. Everyone is welcome. In John s gospel (John 6:53 58), Jesus summarized the reasons for receiving Communion when he said: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever". WHY DO WE HAVE COMMUNION? Communion is an intimate encounter with Christ, in which we sacramentally receive Christ into our bodies. The Eucharist strengthens the individual because in it Jesus himself, the Word made flesh, forgives our sins and gives us the strength to resist mortal sin. It is also the very channel of eternal life: Jesus himself. During mass, we Listen to the Word of God when we listen to the readings. When we receive Communion, we are receiving Christ into our bodies which will help us make better choices in our lives, to be disciples of Jesus and to follow in His footsteps. Just like we need food for our bodies to survive, the body and blood of Christ nourishes our spiritual being.

4 WHO CAN RECEIVE COMMUNION DURING MASS? Communion is given to people in the congregation who are practicing Catholics and who have made the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In Year 4 or above, students will be invited to make their First Holy Communion, provided they are Baptised and have made their First Reconciliation. For all Communicants As you are about to receive the Host or the Precious Blood, the Minister of Communion will say The Body of Christ or The Blood of Christ. The correct response is Amen. The word Amen means, I agree. RECEIVING THE EUCHARIST The proper way to receive the Eucharist in the hand is to place one hand flat on top of the other so that the open palm is facing upward. Once the Minister of Communion has placed the Eucharist onto your palm, step to the side and consume it immediately by taking it with the fingers of the lower hand and placing the Eucharist in your mouth. It is not appropriate to take the Eucharist with your mouth directly from your open palm or to take the Eucharist back to your seat to consume it there. PEOPLE NOT ABLE TO RECEIVE COMMUNION For those who are not able to receive communion for any reason are welcome to receive a blessing from the priest. Come forward with your arms crossed to indicate you want a blessing.

5 Kindergarten On Wednesday 14th of February, Kindergarten celebrated their 10th day of Kindergarten. The students reflected on their learning and engaged in a range of activities based on the number 10. Kindergarten created their own self-portraits of what they will look like when they are 10 years old, explored how a collection of 10 objects can look different in a range of contexts and brainstormed 10 things they would like to have or would not like to have. We thank you for all your support in your child s initial days of Kindergarten and look forward to spending many more days of learning together. 6 to all our swimmers who represented Holy Cross at the Zone Swimming Carnival last Wednesday Congratulations to our 2018 Zone Swimming Team who represented us proudly last Wednesday at Mt Druitt Pool. The students all showed great sportsmanship. Thank you to the parents and family who came to support the children on the day. 8 PERMANENTLY CLOSED am pm It is everyone s responsibility to ensure that everyone is safe while onsite at Holy Cross. It is important that students, families and staff are able to arrive and leave the school safely each day. Therefore we have been asked to ensure that there are no vehicles entering or exiting the school car park during our peak periods - which 8.30 am am and 2.30 pm pm. This includes the Disabled parking area. As from Monday 26 February the electronic gate will be CLOSED (locked) from am and pm. If you arrive in the car park prior to 8.30 am unfortunately you will not be able to take your vehicle out of the car park until after 9.30 am. In the afternoon it will be CLOSED from pm. If you arrive prior to 2.30 pm you will not be able to exit the car park until 3.30 pm. This will be in place for ALL vehicles. I am sure that you understand that we need to ensure that everyone is safe at school. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent Teacher interviews will be held throughout Week 5 of this term and an online booking facility is available. This opened on Monday 19th February.
