1 Welcome to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time November 4, 2018 ~ Our Mission Statement ~ We, the Roman Catholic Parish of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, joyfully worship together to give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God. We are called by the Holy Spirit to proclaim and to live the gospel message through the sacraments and to spread the message of Jesus Christ by living out the example of God s power in our lives. GOD S LAWS God s laws are not intended to burden or torment us. Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God s laws out of fear of what might happen if we don t, but rather view them as a foundation for building relationships and trust with one another and with God. The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, Hear, O Israel. Every morning people recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God throughout the day. They pass on their love of God to their children, from one generation to the next. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, November 12, in observance of Veterans Day. Early Bulletin Deadlines: Sunday, November 25, information ed by noon on Wednesday, November 14. 4 Respect Life News Rediscovering Your Catholic Faith From the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church Sacred Scripture 24. What role does Sacred Scripture play in the life of the Church? Annunciation s Respect Life group has placed a display of crosses on our rectory lawn. The crosses represent babies lost to an abortion. This powerful visual display reminds us that we need to pray to change people s hearts from indifference to awareness for life. The sign placed among the crosses lets people know there is help available. For more information about this project or others, please contact Trish: tee54@sbcglobal.net Nov 10 th & 11 th A representative from Waterleaf Woman s Center will be speaking at Masses to fill us in on the new pregnancy center being built. Waterleaf has purchased the land directly adjacent to Planned Parenthood in Aurora. They have secured all the approvals and permits to construct a new 6,000 plus square foot center on the property. During the last few months Waterleaf staff and volunteers have been engaged in the early stages of a 2.9 million dollar campaign for this once in a lifetime opportunity to build something great. Planned Parenthood center in Aurora is the largest abortion provider in the Midwest - with an estimated 350 to 400 abortions performed at that center each month. The proximity of the new Waterleaf center to this abortion center will give women a true life affirming option. It s important to note that baby bottle campaign coming in January supports the ongoing operations of Waterleaf, while the capital campaign is strictly to fund the building of the new center. VIP News There will be a meeting of the VIP s on Wednesday, November 7 at 12:30pm in the Parish Patio. Sacred Scripture gives support and vigor to the life of the Church. For the children of the Church, it is a confirmation of the faith, food for the soul and the fount of the spiritual life. Sacred Scripture is the soul of theology and of pastoral preaching. The Psalmist says that it is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105). The Church, therefore, exhorts all to read Sacred Scripture frequently because ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ (Saint Jerome). Chapter Three: Man s Response to God I Believe 25. How does man respond to God who reveals himself? Sustained by divine grace, we respond to God with the obedience of faith, which means the full surrender of ourselves to God and the acceptance of his truth insofar as it is guaranteed by the One who is Truth itself. 26. Who are the principal witnesses of the obedience of faith in the Sacred Scriptures? There are many such witnesses, two in particular: One is Abraham who when put to the test believed God (Romans 4:3) and always obeyed his call. For this reason he is called the father of all who believe (Romans 4:11). The other is the V irgin Mary who, throughout her entire life, embodied in a perfect way the obedience of faith: Let it be done to me according to your word (Luke 1:38). 27. What does it mean in practice for a person to believe in God? It means to adhere to God himself, entrusting oneself to him and giving assent to all the truths which God has revealed because God is Truth. It means to believe in one God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

John McNamara As we kick off the month of November we are reminded of the three parts in the Mystical Body of Christ. First off, a few days ago on November 1 st, we celebrated All Saints Day, remembering the Triumphant, those who have completed their earthly life and properly disposed to enter into God s presence forever; they have reached the perfection of charity. A day later, on November 2 nd, we commemorated the Purgative, those being purified with God s love prior to their entrance into Heaven. And let s not forget the Militant, us on earth fighting the good fight, striving to accept God s love day by day and living a life of virtue. This month let us be inspired by the saints who have gone before us; pray for our brothers and sisters in need of purification; and be ever more attentive to our personal calling to be holy men and women. What s our primary calling? By the grace of God, we are all called and chosen to be saints!
