Welcome to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 10, 2018 ~ Our Mission Statement ~ We, the Roman Catholic Parish of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, joyfully worship together to give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God. We are called by the Holy Spirit to proclaim and to live the gospel message through the sacraments and to spread the message of Jesus Christ by living out the example of God s power in our lives. PROMISES Today s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe really believe that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

The above also pertains to the Sacrament of The Anointing of the Sick. Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary will continue to pray for all the sick and suffering, even if unable to list by name. Let us pray for those members of our parish who are sick and suffering. We pray for the Repose of the Souls of Joseph Brummel, and Antoinette Fox. If you would like a visit from Fr. Patrick, please call the parish office at to schedule a visit. Our parish has joined a Catholic website called FORMED. This website is loaded with articles, videos, ebooks, and much more all of which are thoroughly Catholic. You simply go to this website: (This is a secure site, which is why there is an s in the address). Once there, there will be a spot to enter our parish access code, which is 6MMWKC. We have unlimited access to everything on the site. I hope that you take advantage of this site, and pray that it will be beneficial to you. Fr. Patrick Diocesan Appeal 2018 Report 5/27/18 Goal $68, Families CONTRIBUTIONS Sunday, $9, If you would like to start using myeoffering, please visit our website: annunciationchurchbvm.org. When there, click on Online Giving, which is found in the menu on the right side of the home page. Then, you will see a login box. Below that is a link to click for those who have to sign up. Click on the link, and follow the directions. If you need any help, please call Mary at the parish. facebook.com/annunciationbvmchurch Thus far 96 Families Pledged: $16, Amount Needed to reach goal $52, For those of you who have contributed to the Appeal, thank you. As I have done in the past, I have broken down how much each registered family 1051 families would need to give, in order for us to reach our goal. With our goal this year $68, it turns out that the small amount that each registered family will need to give each week, is about $1.38, or about $5.50 per month, over the one-year period. That would total about $66.00 per family, for one year. I hope and pray that all of you can find it in your heart to assist the diocese in making our goal. If every registered family gave $66.00 in a year s time, we will easily meet our goal. Please prayerfully consider helping out with the Appeal this year.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Pastor s Letter As I mentioned last weekend in my announcements, we are looking for more volunteers to be ushers. As I also mentioned, women can usher as well. So, if you would like to be a part of the Ushering Ministry here at Annunciation, man or woman, please call either Mary or me, and we can talk about it. In addition, we are always in need of Lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers at Mass and to the Homebound. Please prayerfully consider volunteering in these capacities. On a completely different note, as you know, each year, the diocese sends out a missionary to each parish. On the last weekend of this month June 23th and 24th our missionary priest will pay us a visit. As usual, he will preach at all Masses that weekend, and we will have a second collection for the missions. In next weekend s bulletin, I will have a short biography of our visiting missionary. As summer will be soon upon us, I hope and pray that you get some time to relax and enjoy the weather. So, to all of you fellow Eskimos out there, here s hoping and praying that it s ONE COOL SUMMER! God bless you all! Fr. Patrick Please consult the bulletin for deadlines, if you would like something in the bulletin. The usual deadline for things in the bulletin is MONDAY, BY NOON, unless otherwise stated. Please send the item/article that you would like to see in the bulletin to Mary at annunciationbvm-aurora@rockforddiocese.org or mglosson@rockforddiocese.org. If it is a document, please make sure that it is created in Word. If it is a picture, please make sure that it is in black and white. Also, if you would like something announced at any or all of the weekend Masses, please Mary at annunciationbvm-aurora@rockforddiocese.org, or mglosson@rockforddiocese.org, no later than WEDNESDAY EVENING, BY 4:00PM. If you would like both an announcement and a bulletin item/article, please send two separate s, one for the announcement, one for the bulletin item/article.

Rediscovering Your Catholic Faith From the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church The Way of Prayer Please mark your calendars for Sunday, August 19 when we are planning on having our parish picnic. There will be more information on this date in future bulletins. The picnic will be from 1-4pm, the food will be served from 1-3. We appreciate all of our volunteers so please R.S.V.P to the parish office if you plan on attending our parish appreciation dinner on August 11 at 6:45pm. The dinners will be held in the parish patio, and outside, in back of the rectory-hoping for nice weather for both days. Food will be provided. SILVER & GOLD WEDDING ANNI- VERSARY MASS: Couples celebrating the milestone wedding anniversaries of 25, 50, 55, 60, and 65 or more years of marriage in 2018 are invited to a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Malloy at St. Mary Parish in Huntley, IL on Sunday, August 19 th at 2:30 PM. A cake and punch reception will immediately follow. Are you celebrating a special milestone? The Life & Family Evangelization Office welcomes your registration by phone (815) or online at by August 3 rd. Commemorative certificates to mark this special occasion will be available for those who pre-register for this event In the Church are there different ways of praying? In the Church there are various ways of praying that are tied to different historical, social and cultural contexts. The Magisterium of the Church has the task of discerning the fidelity of these ways of praying to the tradition of apostolic faith. It is for pastors and catechists to explain their meaning which is always related to Jesus Christ What is the way of our prayer? The way of our prayer is Christ because prayer is directed to God our Father but reaches him only if we pray--at least implicitly in the name of Jesus. His humanity is in effect the only way by which the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray to the Father. Therefore liturgical prayers conclude with the formula: Through our Lord Jesus Christ What is the role of the Holy Spirit in prayer? Since the Holy Spirit is the interior Master of Christian prayer and we do not know how to pray as we ought (Rom 8:26), the Church exhorts us to invoke him and implore him on every occasion: Come, Holy Spirit! 562. How is Christian prayer Marian? Men and women are invited to become Ushers. We are in the process of being more organized, please call the parish office at and ask for Fr. Patrick or Mary and we will take your contact information. We will be scheduling a get together/meeting for August. There will be more information on the date forthcoming. Because of her singular cooperation with the action of the Holy Spirit, the Church loves to pray to Mary and with Mary, the perfect pray-er, and to magnify and invoke the Lord with her. Mary in effect shows us the Way who is her Son, the one and only Mediator How does the Church pray to Mary? Above all with the Hail Mary, the prayer with which the Church asks the intercession of the Virgin. Other Marian prayers are the Rosary, the Akathistos hymn, the Paraclesis, and the hymns and canticles of diverse Christian traditions.

School News Religious Ed News Bring your family and friends to join us at Panera Bread on Kirk Road on Wednesday, June 20 th at any time of the day! Just present the flyer (either hard copy or electronic image on smart phone / tablet) to the cashier at the time of purchase so we will get credit for the sale. Can t dine it, go ahead and take-out those orders count too! ACTIONS Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak. St. Anthony of Padua AMERICAN FLAG This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. Woodrow Wilson Vocation Corner: Say Yes and don t be afraid to Commit! One issue that I see present in the lives of many teenagers today (although we re all susceptible!) is the difficulty to say yes and to commit to something. For example, one of them might receive and invitation to go to a party on a Friday night about a week away, and even though they are 100% open and available on that evening, they say Maybe rather than saying yes. The reason why is because they want to keep their options open in case if a better offer comes along! This happens all the time, and again I think this sometimes happens to all of us. We can see a good opportunity arise, but we re hesitant to embrace it because we d rather do something great! I think that this biggest place where this plagues individuals come when trying to discern one s vocation especially the question of what God might be calling one to dedicate their entire life to! Even if we feel called to something, we can be hesitant to take the leap of Faith and enter into it because we don t know if something better might be on the horizon. What we have to trust is that if God is calling us and we sense this, that it WILL be what is best for us. So too, if we assess things by our standards, chances are that we ll think that something else will fulfill us more than what God is calling us to, because more often than not the value of our vocation and the difference that we can make in the world will not be immediately apparent. So if God calls say YES and prepare yourself for the time of your life! Religious Education Program Registration Registration for the upcoming Religious Education Program year is underway. Returning families should have already received information and a registration form via . If you did not receive the or are unable to print out the form, please contact the parish office during business hours, or visit our parish website: For new or interested families, if you have any questions or would like registration information, please call the parish office or . The Religious Education Program is open to parish children in grades K-8 who do not attend a Catholic school. Washington EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS FOR THE HOMEBOUND Bob Klein, Tom Gallenbach TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The cathedral is a treasure in a diocese and in our tradition. It is not simply a big church, as some say; some parish churches are larger. What makes a cathedral is the presence of the chair, called a cathedra (Latin for seat) reserved for the bishop. There are many instances in our country of a local church (diocese) outgrowing a cathedral. In Baltimore and St. Louis, the former cathedrals are historic treasures in the heart of the old city, but new and larger structures now function as the seat of the bishop. When a bishop dies or retires, it is said that the seat is vacant, and when the new bishop is installed, the central ritual is the moment when the decree of the Holy Father is read and the new bishop is escorted to the cathedra. No one but the bishop sits in the cathedra during a ritual, but in Los Angeles the cathedra in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is accessible, and no one seems to mind when a visitor tries the cathedra out for the bishop s point of view.
