2 MAY 14, 2017 We have, in the passage from St. John chapter 14, one of the most chosen Gospel passages for funeral liturgies. It is chosen so frequently because of the warm and consoling words of Jesus who assures us: In my Father s house there are many dwelling places. There is something very reassuring to think of heaven having many dwelling places, for it conveys to us the image of our death or that of a loved one as a going home. As with any home there is an address, which we need to know in order to find our way to our eternal home. Jesus answers that for his disciples for us when he introduces Himself as the Way, the Truth and the Life. Along with this beautiful passage from St. John we also have a passage from the First Letter of St. Peter, which reminds us that we are not a people that just sit and yearn for our Eternal Home but rather we are invited to: Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God, and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. We are not a people that just yearn for an Eternal Home in the distance, but rather we are a people that are called by our God to allow ourselves to be shaped into that Home that can be a source of solace, strength and hope for all those who come to know us and learn of our hope in Christ Jesus as our Way our Truth and our Life. We are invited on this Fifth Week of Easter to allow the consoling words of Christ to transform us into the edifice he desires us to be as his living stones, stones that can point those we meet to the eternal home that awaits all of us. Most of you have become familiar with the On Mission Models that were presented to our parish last fall. The Diocese is now proposing On Mission Groupings of parishes. The proposal for our area is uniting Our Lady of the Angels, St. Stanislaus, St. Patrick, and Immaculate Heart of Mary parishes into one new parish under one pastor and one parochial vicar and all four campuses. This new parish would serve 1500 worshipers and include 8 buildings. This is a proposal from the Diocese and no final decision has been made. The bishop will make the final decision about all parishes next March. We now have until June 1 st to respond to this proposed grouping and offer any changes or modifications that we think would be important to make this new parish viable and sustainable. We will be seeking your input on this proposal at the end of the Masses next weekend, May 20 th & 21 st. Give some thought and prayer to this and even before next weekend you can me with suggestions or speak with any of the On Mission Team from our parish to give you input. Our Team is: Paula Calabrese, Joe DiVito, Eileen Frollini, Don Guerra, Jarrod Kinkley, and John Mazurana. The Capuchins worldwide and in a special way the Capuchins of North America celebrate the announcement of the beatification of a Capuchin friar who ministered primarily in Detroit Solanus Casey, OFM Cap. He served in New York for a short time and then spent the rest of his life ministering to the poor at a Soup Kitchen in Detroit and also as a porter ministering to those who came to the door of the friary there. He was revered during his lifetime and there were many extraordinary events and occurrences attributed to his intercession that can only be considered miraculous. He died in 1957 and thousands came to his funeral. Once he is beatified he will have his own feast day and with one more verified miracle he will be canonized a saint. The parish Rosary Society brought to my attention that our Prayer Intention Box is certainly being well used. The number of intentions place in the box in the last five months has been: Dec , Jan. - 94, Feb , Mar , and April The Rosary Society members have, as one of their commitments, to continue to pray for those monthly intentions during the month after they empty the Prayer Intention Box. This Sunday we honor all our Mothers, Grandmothers, Godmothers and Mother figures! As we extend a blessing for all our Mothers, living and deceased, today, we also extend a sincere Thank You for all the ways that they have blessed us through their nurturing care and love.
