3 August 26, 2018 Ordinary Time (21-B) PARISH EVENTS AND NEWS Regular Evening Schedule (Tue Wed Thu 5 pm) At 5:00 pm we begin Adoration and pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. At 5:30 pm Adoration continues in silence and Confessions are available then 6:20 pm Benediction and 6:30 pm Mass. Movie Matinee (Sun Aug 1220 pm) Please come to see an inspirational movie on the last Sunday of each month after the 11 o clock Mass in the St John Paul II meeting room, rectory lower level. We always have plenty of food, and there is no cost. On August 26 we will show The Miracle Worker (1962), a true story of how a totally blind and deaf seven-year-old, Helen Keller ( ), came to comprehend the meaning of words. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Sunday 11:00 am Mass has need of additional parishioners for the scheduled rotation. Religious Education (Grade 1 thru Grade 8) Registration is open for Faith Formation (CCD) classes. We offer a twoyear program for sacrament preparation (First Reconciliation, First Communion) and continuing faith formation Grade 1 thru Grade 8. You must register each year. Classes are Saturday afternoons, 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm, finishing in time to attend 5:00 pm Mass as a family. Classes begin Sat Sep 22. 7 Keynote Speakers: Professor Rabbi Daniel Sperber studied for rabbinic ordination at Yeshivot Kol Torah in Israel, earned a Bachelors degree in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art, and a doctorate from University College, London in Classics, Ancient History and Hebrew Studies. In 1968 he joined the faculty of Bar-Ilan University, as a teacher in the Talmud department. For the past eight years, he has served as President of the Jesselson Institute for Advanced Torah Studies. For two decades he has served as a representative of the Israel Ministry of Religion and the Foreign Office in matters of interreligious dialogue. Reverend Monsignor Guy Massie serves as the chairperson and Vicar for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. He is also the pastor at Sacred Hearts and St. Stephen Church in Brooklyn. Massie received his master s degree in Judaic Studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. At the event, you will be provided materials to celebrate this historic milestone with your parishes and congregations on a community-wide Sabbath of Celebration on November We will also be matching interested Rabbis and Priests to participate in a pulpit exchange on this weekend.
