3 Hype Create an atmosphere of anticipation in the room through your lighting, music and interaction with the hosts or worship leaders. Begin the music before the audience enters. Choose highenergy music. Opening Music Lead kids and parents in singing the following songs. You can use teen and kid singers on the stage to do motions to the songs and facilitate worship, but you can go as simple as a CD player with one of your hosts leading. You may want to introduce the motions to the audience at the beginning of the song. 4 Welcome/Intro Credible Host enters. Hello, everyone! Welcome to [name of your FX]. If this is your first time here, [name of your FX] is where kids bring their parents to learn about Life Apps. And Life Apps are simply things that God does in you to change the world around you. My name is [Credible Host s name]. Comic Host enters. He is dressed as Michelangelo s God from the Sistine Chapel with a toga, white beard, and white hair. He is pushed out on a dolly. He is reclining and holding out his hand and finger, like in the painting. He speaks very grandly and elongates the vowels, especially the word I. And I am [Comic Host s name]! What... what are you doing? (very grand and royal-like) (exasperated) I (elongate the word, and then speak normally) am pointing. I can see that, but WHY are you pointing... and dressed like that? (continuing with the grandeur) I am the personification of this month s Life App. Come again? I am the personification Do you even know what that means? (repeating himself) (cutting him off) 4

5 I (elongate the word, and then speak normally) have no clue. I read it... somewhere. (Grandly) BUT if you reveal the aforementioned Life App, I postulate everything will become as translucent as... as... something very clear. (suspiciously) Are you using the Word of the Day toilet paper again? Maybe. Thought so. Okay, on the count of three, I want everyone to yell it out. Ready? One, two, three! CG: Creativity Definition Creativity is imagining what you could do because you re made in God s image. SEE? Now, do you have clarity? No. Not... not really. I (cutting him off) I realize you are attempting to be Michelangelo s image of God from the Sistine Chapel. CORRECT! But what does that have to do with this month s Life App? Can you not read? Apparently not. 5

6 Comic Host is wheeled over to your Life App definition so he can point at it. SEE? I am made in God s image. I agree with you; you are. But why are you dressed like that? (enunciating each word) Do you not see what I am pointing at? Comic Host frantically points at the Life App definition again. I do see. But, [Comic Host s name], we re ALL made in the image of God already. You don t have to dress up like some 16th century interpretation of Him. Oh, so too much rouge? No! Yes, I mean yes. Too much rouge. But if you want to understand what God looks like you need to look around at ALL the people at ALL of creation that bears His thumbprint. So I should dress up like... (point to someone in audience)... that guy? [Comic Host s name]. Or THAT guy? (Point to someone else.) No, you don t. How about that girl? (Point to a little girl.) Can I get away with that? YOU DON T HAVE TO DRESS UP LIKE ANYBODY! 6

7 I don t? No! You re ALREADY made in the image of God. You can be yourself! OHHH. Why didn t you say so? Thank goodness. You need to dress up like ME! (relieved) Oh my. (To audience) While I take this work of art backstage, why don t you guys check in on the clubhouse? Credible Host starts pushing Comic Host offstage. SOO you think I m a work of art? I think you may be more of the Dogs Playing Cards type of art. Yes! Wait, what does that mean? SFX: Chorus of School s Out by Alice Cooper They exit. 7

8 Intro Sketch SFX: Your Intro Sketch music NOTE: You will need to create two stations on stage: a chemistry lab for Gordo and a gardening station for Sam. Gordo and Sam enter from two different locations. Sam is wearing a work apron and garden gloves, and she is carrying two small burlap sacks (that look like they re filled with seed). Gordo is in his lab coat and goggles, and he is carrying a large test tube with purple liquid in it. (If you can add dry ice to make it smoke, that would be awesome!) They both pass by each other and go to their stations. They are engrossed in their work. Sam. Gordo. Ahhhh, Sam, don t you just love the summer? Ummm, I thought you hated the summer. I normally do. No homework, no tests, no late night studying. It can be a pretty sad time. You are a sick, sick boy. But not this summer! Oh, no! THIS summer I ve been taking summer courses from H.I.T. The course load has been so intense I ve barely gotten two hours of sleep a night. It s been amazing! To think I ve been wasting my summers on VACATION all these years. I think you need professional help. 8

9 Oh, no! You re supposed to do all the work on your own; that s part of the deal. Of course. So what are you working on now? It s for my pharmaceutical molecular science course. It s a cranium pili growth enhancer. It s gonna knock their socks off! Or, in this case, their hats! Hahahahaha! (laughing along) Hahaha. I have no idea what that means! It s an instant hair growth formula. See? Gordo pulls out an eyedropper from his pocket and squeezes a drop or two onto Sam s head!! (Beat.) Nothing happened. Oh, I forgot! It needs heat! Hair dryer! Gordo drags Sam offstage. SFX: Hair dryer They come right back on. Sam is now wearing a super long wig (the longer and the most like her original style of hair the better).! What?! You can always cut it! I see you re working on something. Are you taking classes too? Oh, no! I m just messing around with some exotic grass seed. This blend doesn t need any water. They say you can grow it in the desert if you wanted to. I don t know why you d want to, though all that sand. But I thought with this drought going on, why not give it a try? 9

10 That sounds superfluous to me. Ummm. Vinny enters in full football gear, including a helmet. He is covered in dust. (Mix flour and charcoal powder to make the perfect dust.) Vinny! Hello, my dudes and dudettes. (CONT D) (glad for a distraction) (depressed) Vinny, what in the spherical world happened to you?! As Vinny takes off his helmet, dust should just plume into the air. This causes Gordo and Sam to cough. Gordo takes a hit from his inhaler. Football, mi compadres. Football. Where were you playing? The dustbowl? Is that something you put cereal in? No, it s what they called the Midwest during the Great Where WERE you playing, Vinny? Did you do something to your hair? (interrupting) 10

11 No. Why? Uhhh, no reason. Well, we are supposed to be having our summer football camp, but there s no grass on the field, because of no rain. We kick up so much dust we can t even see each other. It s like playing tackle Marco Polo, which is fun but defeats the purpose. So they ve called off camp. Now I don t know what I m going to do. Wait a minute. I ve got grass right here that doesn t need any water to grow! That s convenient. (take to the audience) I know! We can just throw it out on the field, and you should have grass in... (pretend to read the back of a burlap sack)... one month. Um, Sam? That s not going to do us any good right now. Sam sets the sack back down. Oh. Wait a minute! My cranium pili growth enhancer! Gesundheit. No, it s my instant hair growth formula! If we combine it with Sam s grass seed, I bet we can grow grass overnight! How convenient. (take to the audience) I know! Come on! I ll need to make gallons of it! 11

12 SFX: Chorus of Dust in the Wind by Kansas How come you guys keep looking out there? Sam picks up one of the sacks and runs off with Gordo. Vinny turns and looks at the audience. Vinny! Come on! (O.S.) (O.S.) Vinny looks for a second more before exiting. Coming! SFX: Your Intro Sketch music 12

13 Rapid Response Comic Host enters wearing his normal clothes. Apparently I m pretty awesome. At least that s what [Credible Host s name] said. I mean, not that I didn t already know that, but it s good for [Credible Host s name] to finally realize that, after all the times I ve told him. Credible Host steps quickly onstage. They get it. Oh, okay. Just making sure. Credible Host exits. (CONT D) Now it s time to show how awesome YOU are! I need three artists who want to show the world just how creative you are! Comic Host picks three kids to come up onto the stage. Meanwhile, stagehands bring out a table with three piles of clay on it. As Comic Host explains the rules, he gives each kid a smock. (CONT D) Okay, in front of each of our artists is a heap of unformed clay. We will give them 30 seconds to create some AMAZING, UNIQUE, CREATIVE, and probably incomplete since we re only giving you 30 seconds PIECES OF ART! Are you ready? Then CREATE! SFX: 30 seconds of Sabre Dance by your choice of artists (CONT D) All right, put your clay down! Let s see what we have. Celebrate each creation. (CONT D) Isn t that amazing? And for participating, you each get to take home your art! Let s give all of our artists and ME a round of applause. Thank you. Thank you. Comic Host exits. 13

14 Word SFX: Cactus Jack Intro NOTE: Bear Tookis is a parody of Bear Grylls. Exaggerate everything from his dialect to his enthusiasm for survival. A cardboard cactus is a featured set piece. Six small stones are also scattered around. VOICEOVER (SFX) It s time once again to join the most intrepid cowboys in the Old West. This week, our favorite trail riders are lost in Death Valley. Cactus Jack, I think we are lost in Death Valley. Cactus Jack and Al Paca enter. Cactus Jack rides a stick horse while Al makes hoof noises with coconut shells or cups. They gallop slowly as they travel through the dry, thirsty desert. Yep. CACTUS JACK And it s so hot I d eat some of Pecos Sam s four-alarm chili right now just to cool off. SFX: Fire bell ringing Al spits. Whoa. CACTUS JACK They stop riding. Why are we stopping? We have to get out of this desert. If we get stuck out here much longer with no food, no water, and no shelter, we ll be crispy like bacon. SFX: Bacon sizzling Al spits. 14

15 We need a plan. CACTUS JACK I ll give us a plan. Let s get out of here. We ll keep doing what we ve been doing. Just keep riding and riding and riding and riding and riding. Hold on. Cacuts Jack, I recognize that cactus. It s the same one we passed an hour ago. Yep. CACTUS JACK Wait just a deep-fried minute. That means we are so lost we couldn t find our way out of a oneroom schoolhouse. SFX: School bell ringing Al spits. Yep. CACTUS JACK You know what that means? It s finally happened, pardner. The Old West has caught up with us two cowpokes and shown us the way to Boot Hill. This is the last ride, the last round up, the last trail we will ever mosey down together. Just us, alone, in the desert, out here with not another living soul around for a thousand miles. And soon, not even us. Well, good night, mi amigo. Al lies down mournfully. He s ready to die. Cactus Jack is fanning himself and thinking. Bear Tookis enters. Hello, mates! Good night, amigo! Where did you come from? Al is scared and jumps up. England originally, but since last week I ve been surviving in this beautiful desert. Beautiful? Stranger, this place is called Death Valley for a reason, and it ain t cause it s beautiful. 15

16 Ha! Right. But, you have to admit, God has created everything here and creation is good. Yeah, good if it s not trying to kill you. Oh, just have a little look around. You see over there, that cactus leaf is edible. And not only will it give us much-needed calories for energy, but it also contains moisture, which will help us fight dehydration. Cactus Jack, this fella has let his melon bake a little too long in the oven, if you know what I mean. Pardon me. I didn t even introduce myself. I m Bear Tookis, survivalist and appreciator of all this grand creation. Bear who wha? Bear Tookis. I ve been all over the world finding different ways nature itself is designed to perfectly support life, if you know what you re looking for. All right, let s take a look around for a lizard or two to have for dinner. It s hotter than a tin saddle out here and you re looking to eat lizard? What is wrong with you? Not a single one of us is going to make it out of this place. SFX: Taps Al spits. Oh, I see. You ve forgotten the beginning. No, I sure haven t. We started out in Mule s Ear and we thought we d take a shortcut over to Prairie Dog Town. No, not the beginning of your equestrian adventure. The very beginning of all adventure everywhere in the universe: in. 16

17 In what? Bear grabs the six stones. He will place them on stage to indicate the days as he speaks. IN the beginning, there was God. And He had a plan. Let s take these six stones to represent the days. Completely from His amazing imagination, He dreamed up everything, and by speaking He made it exist. First day, He said, Let there be light. And pow! It was light and it was good. He had an order to everything and a purpose. Second day, He made water in the sky and water in the ocean. Stop saying water. Then He made dry ground and plants and it was good! Third day! CACTUS JACK And on the fourth day He made the sun, the moon, and the stars. And the fifth day was all about creating the fish in the sea, because He d already made the sea. And the birds of the air could land, because He d made the land for them. You see, God already created plants for them to eat! He thought of everything. Then the sixth day was about making animals. He made them all, and it was good. What about us? Oh, don t you see? Everything He created before that was all for us! He created things out of nothing, so we could be creative by living in His creation. It s all in the plan. CACTUS JACK We are the pinnacle of all creation, God s masterwork, created on the sixth day in His image. He breathed His breath of life into us. Exactly! He made it all for us! So this desert won t kill us? 17

18 Oh, it will kill you for sure if you re unprepared and lack some creative resolve. And by the way, I calculate we don t have enough water to last another few hours out here. SFX: Helicopter landing Then why are you still smiling? Because that s my helicopter landing right over there. Want a ride? You bet! How long have you two been out here anyway? About 20 minutes. They exit as Storyteller enters. STORYTELLER God created creativity by showing us what it was like to create something out of nothing. Did you know that when you show creativity, you are being like God in a small way? Maybe that s why so many of you love to create things. Let s pray. SFX: Your prayer music STORYTELLER (CONT D) Heavenly Father, thank You for making the beautiful planet we live on. Thank You for making the plants, fish, birds, and animals. And thank You for making us in Your image so we can create things from the wonderful world You spoke into existence. Amen. SFX: Your Word music 18

19 Media Time Video CG: Discovery from Get REEL 2.0, vol. 24 Exit Sketch SFX: Chorus of Tip Toe Through the Tulips by Tiny Tim Sam and Gordo enter. They are both carrying water sprayers, and they are pretty filthy. They are also dead tired. (Yawn.) Who knew that would take the whole night and all of my grass seed? I m going to have to order more. (Yawn.) Who knew a football field was a hundred yards long? I mean, no one needs to run that far. (Yawn.) Do you think it worked? (Yawn.) It should. The molecule components of a hair follicle and a grass seed are similar. As long as your seed can grow without water, I put the success rate at 98.3 percent. Sam walks over and picks up a sack. (Yawn.) Let s see, the bag says it needs zero water. I think we re good. Sam? (Yawn.) Yes? (becoming alert) 19

20 I thought you said you used all the seed. (Yawn.) I did. Then what s that you re holding? (Yawn.) Grass seed. (Panic.) GRASS SEED! If that s grass seed, what did we just put all over the football field? Vinny enters. He is absolutely covered in wildflowers. Wildflower seed. Vinny! Hola, mi compadres! (deadpan) Vinny, I am so sorry! It is all my fault! I mixed up the bags. I think we planted wildflowers instead of grass. Yes, you did! I ruined everything. No, it s great! You get tackled and you come up smelling like a rhododendron. It even kinda tickles! But it s not grass! 20

21 It s better! You should have seen Coach s face when he first saw it. He started crying! Crying?! AND Yeah, I didn t know if he was sad or allergic. It turns out he was just so happy! He said that thanks to you guys and your creativity, football camp is saved! And the locker room never smelled so good. Really? Really? Yep, he even wants to make you guys honorary mascots: The Fighting Green Thumbs! I always wanted to be a mascot! Me too! They both run offstage as Vinny turns to the audience. How convenient. Vinny! You coming? On my way! (O.S.) (O.S.) He exits. SFX: Chorus of Wildflowers by Tom Petty 21

22 Special Song SFX: Wired (downloadable from the matrix) Wrap Up SFX: Your Wrap Up music Thanks to my pals and their quick thinking, not only are we the best smelling team in our division, we re also the prettiest! I m glad the flowers worked out. Sometimes you just have to trust the gifts God gave us, even when it may sound silly. Who knew being a mascot would be so tough? There s way too much running. Why is everything dark? Gordo falls over. 22

23 Landing Some people think that only artists are creative. But that s not true at all. Every person on this planet has a creative soul because that s the way we were created. You can be creative in SO many different ways. It doesn t matter what your gift is. It could be math, science, horticulture, or even sports. The key is imagining what you can do with that gift in order to honor the one who gave it to you. Sometime this week, I want you to imagine a way to use your gifts to help those around you.
