1 February 25, 2018 Bible Story Focus: Jesus never stops loving us. Peter s Denial and Restoration Matthew 26:31-35, 69-75; John 21:15-17 Memory Verse: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:12, NIV Key Question: Who does Jesus love? Bottom Line: Jesus loves everyone. Basic Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Social: Providing Time for Fun Interaction (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Activities that encourage preschoolers to enter the classroom and begin engaging with peers and Small Group Leaders by providing age appropriate and hands on fun while introducing new concepts they will hear in the day s Bible story. 1. Coloring Sheet-introduces the Bible story/concept 2. Sweet Shop! Sweet shop is an activity that uses creativity and art to introduce the theme for the month. What You Need: Butcher paper to cover the tables, tape, stickers, stamps, crayons, markers, etc. to create a sweet shop! Before the activity: Cover the tables with butcher paper. Set out items for decoration (stamps, stickers, etc.) During the activity: Tell the children that you want them to work together to make a candy shop with the items for decoration During the activity: Today, I want us to work together to create a sweet shop. You may use the stickers, stamps, crayons, markers, whatever you want on the butcher paper in front of you! After the activity: Wow! This amazing! I love it! Great job, everyone! You made an awesome sweet shop! This month is all about the sweet love of Jesus! Today we are going to talk about how much Jesus loves us! 3. 2 Gather children for a Large Group time that includes interactive worship and the Bible story. Worship: Inviting People to Respond to God Engage kids hearts through dynamic and interactive worship in a Large Group setting. Use the monthly song provided with the curriculum to lead your preschoolers in worship. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions. What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at John 15:12. You will also need a CD player and this month s worship song, Always, which is included in your monthly files. The dance moves for this song are available on the Everybody Sing Dance Moves DVD. WORSHIP LEADER: Hello, hello, friends. It s so great to see you today! I m so excited, and I can t wait to sing with you. But first tell me: Who does Jesus love? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. WORSHIP LEADER: Yes! [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. He loves you and you and you and you. He loves everyone! Let s sing this month s song all about that. (Lead children in singing Always, this month s worship song.) Wonderful singing, my friends. Tell me: Who does Jesus love? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. WORSHIP LEADER: Yes indeed, [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. Who can help me remember what we do next? We sang our first song. What do we do now? (Pause.) Yes! We say our memory verse. Are you ready to say it with me? Love each other (give yourself a big hug) as I (point up with both fingers) have loved you, (bring fingers down and point all over the room at all the kids), John 15:12. (Open your hands like a book.) Let s do it again. CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Love each other (give yourself a big hug) as I (point up with both fingers) have loved you, (bring fingers down and point all over the room at all the kids), John 15:12. (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat several times.) WORSHIP LEADER: Yes! You ve got it totally memorized now. Way to go! I am so proud of you. It s time to praise Jesus together. Are you ready? Story: Communicating God s Truth in Engaging Ways Engage kids hearts through a dynamic and interactive Bible story and prayer experience in a Large Group setting. These scripts are written to be told and not read. Advanced preparation is necessary. Bible Story What You Need: Bible STORYTELLER: What is UP, everyone? You are looking so awesome today. If you FEEL awesome, say, So awesome! CHILDREN: So awesome! STORYTELLER: Well, I m glad you feel awesome, because today I want to tell you something SUPER awesome and totally true. In our TRUE Bible story today, I m going to show you how I know for sure that [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. This true story begins with Jesus and His friend, Peter. Peter and Jesus were really good friends. And Peter wanted everyone to know about Jesus. In fact, he said there is NOTHING that would ever stop him from telling people about Jesus. Even if people made fun of him, or took all his stuff, Peter would STILL tell people about Jesus. Pretty cool, right? Peter felt like a superhero. But Jesus told him that before the rooster crowed, Peter would say he wasn t Jesus friend. And he would say this not one, not two, but THREE times. Well, Peter couldn t believe this was true! There was no way he would say that Jesus wasn t his friend THREE times! Soon after, Jesus was arrested by guards. Even though Jesus had done nothing wrong, they took him away. Peter was all alone. And he was scared. He thought he might get in trouble too. Just then a young girl came by. Aren t you one of Jesus friends? she asked. 4 No! Peter said. Remember what Jesus said to Peter? (Pause.) That he would say he wasn t Jesus friend. Uh-oh, that s one time. Then another girl came by saying, This guy was with Jesus! What do you guys think Peter said in that moment? (Pause.) Yeah, instead of telling the truth about being Jesus friend, Peter said, No, I wasn t with Jesus. I don t know him! That s the second time. Man, this isn t looking good for Peter. Then a crowd said, Yes, you do! You DO know Jesus! And again, Peter did exactly what Jesus said he would do. He shouted, NO! I promise, He s not my friend. So how many times did Peter say he didn t know Jesus? (Pause.) Yep. Three times before the rooster crowed, just like Jesus had said. Peter felt SO bad. He thought that Jesus would never be his friend again. But guess who showed up for breakfast on the beach one day? (Pause.) Yes! Jesus. Jesus asked Peter if he still loved Him. That was the first time Jesus asked. And Peter said, Yes! Of course I love You! Then Jesus asked again. Peter, do you love me? Yes! Peter said. And ONE more time. Peter, do YOU love ME? For the third time, Peter said, Yes, Lord! Jesus wanted Peter to know that there was never, ever, ever, ever, EVER anything he could do to make Jesus stop loving him. And you know what? There is never ever, ever, ever, EVER anything you could do to make Jesus stop loving you. He loves you to the moon and back and He always, always will because [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. He will never stop loving us. Who does Jesus love? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone. STORYTELLER: Yes, and He will never stop. Let s pray and thank God for that BIG truth today. PRAYER STORYTELLER: Dear God, You are the BEST! Thank You for always loving us with a never-stopping, never-fading, never-failing, always kind of love. 5 love us no matter what and that You sent Jesus to show us that in a real way. Help us to remember this week that You love us. In Jesus name, amen. Groups: Creating a Safe Place to Connect (Small Groups, 15 minutes) Create a safe place to connect through activities that are written to reach every learning style while reinforcing the Bottom Line that was introduced during the Bible Story and applying it to real life experiences. In addition, these activities provide preschoolers with an opportunity to build relationships with their Small Group Leader. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or, offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each. Then switch groups and repeat the activities. 1. Memory Verse Love Hear from God Memory Verse Review Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: Small heart stickers (8 per child), Verse Hearts Activity Page, and white cardstock Before the Activity: Copy Verse Hearts on cardstock. You need one per child. Place the heart stickers on the table. During the Activity: Point out the words on the Activity Page and read the verse aloud to the children. Encourage them to place a heart sticker over the heart shapes above each word of the verse. Have the children point to each word of the verse on the page as you say it together. Repeat the verse several times. Before the Activity: Do you see the words on your page? This is our memory verse for this month! It says: Love each other as I have loved you, John 15:12. I love this verse! It reminds me that [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone, and because He loves us, we can love others too. During the Activity: Let s use these heart stickers (hold up) to cover the blank hearts on our page. (Pause.) Great job! Now let s point to each word as we say the verse together. Love each other as I have loved you, John 15:12. After the Activity: The hearts on your page can remind you that you are LOVED! Jesus loves you and you and you (point to the children as you say this) and you and you! Who does Jesus love? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone! Yes, He does. Yes or No Live for God Application Activity Made to Think: An advanced activity specifically designed for older preschoolers What You Need: No supplies needed During the Activity: Teach the children the following sign language for yes and no. Yes Make a fist and move it up and down. No Hold up your first two fingers and tap them to your thumb. Review these several times with the children, calling out yes and no as you perform these signs. Then tell the children that you will ask some questions and you want them to answer yes or no using sign language. Before the Activity: Today, I want to teach you some special signs for the words yes and no. Have you ever heard of sign language before? When a person cannot hear, they need a super special language called sign language, so they can talk to others. Would you like to learn these super awesome signs for yes and no? During the Activity: Okay, for yes, hold up your hand, put it in a fist, and move it up and down like you would move your head up and down for yes. (Demonstrate.) Great. That s yes. For no, you hold up your first two fingers and tap them once to your thumb like this. (Demonstrate.) Okay, you show me no in sign language. (Pause.) Great! What s yes again? (Pause.) And what s no? (Pause.) Perfect. Now I m going to ask some questions and I want you to answer with the cool new signs you learned. Ready? Questions: Do you like broccoli? Do you like ice cream? Do you like to go to the beach? Do you like bedtime? Do you like to take a bath? Do you like scrambled eggs? Do you like your friends? Do you like the sunshine? Do you like the rain? 7 Do you like to come to church? After the Activity: I hope everyone answered yes (perform the sign) to that last question, because I sure love coming to church to see all of you! This is where we learn all about Jesus and just how much He loves everyone! In our Bible story today, Peter said NO about knowing Jesus three times! We should always be careful to answer with the truth when someone asks us a question. But even when Peter messed up, Jesus never stopped loving him. Would Jesus ever stop loving you? (Pause.) No way! Because [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone! 3. A Different Parachute Live for God Application Activity Made to Move: An activity that uses a preschooler s natural desire to move to help them learn What You Need: Parachute or large sheet, and large pom-poms in different colors Before the Activity: Invite the children to stand around the parachute. Encourage the children to each take hold of the parachute and lift it off the ground. Place the pompoms onto the parachute. During the Activity: Instruct the children to move their arms up and down to move the parachute to bounce the pom-poms. Point out that the pom-poms are different colors. Repeat several times. Before the Activity: Let s bounce all of the different pom-poms up and down! During the Activity: The pom-poms are different because everyone is different, and Jesus loves everyone! Everyone pick up the parachute. (Pause.) Let s see how high we can get the different pom-poms! (Do activity.) Way to go! After the Activity: WOW! We really sent the different pom-poms super high! Everyone is different and Jesus loves us ALL! No matter what! Who does Jesus love? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves everyone! 4. Wonder DVD If you have time you may show the Wonder!
