5 Make your own Scrying Mirror Monday, July 24 th, pm Cost: $10.00 Facilitators: Ginger and Tessa Scrying is a form of divination by looking into and focusing on an object such as a crystal ball, a flame, a bowl of water, or a mirror. This class will show you how to make your own scrying mirror. All you need to bring is a picture frame including the glass. The rest of the materials will be provided. After we have finished making our mirrors we will spend the balance of the class practicing our scrying skills. 7 The Tarot Fool The tarot is made up of two sections, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana is made up of 22 cards, numbered zero through twenty-two; and the Minor Arcana is made up of 56 cards divided into four suits. The first card in Major Arcana is The Fool, numbered zero, which raises the questions, Why is the first card numbered zero, rather than the number one? The number zero, surprisingly, hasn t been around as long as you may think. The concept of zero first appeared in India around A.D Different words symbolized zero, or nothing, such as "void," "sky" or "space." In 628, a Hindu astronomer and mathematician named Brahmagupta developed a symbol for zero a dot underneath numbers. He also developed mathematical operations using zero, wrote rules for reaching zero through addition and subtraction, and the results of using zero in equations. This was the first time in history that zero was recognized as a number of its own, as both an idea and a symbol. Zero is actually a very metaphysical concept and can represent many things: The number zero is shaped like a circle. As we know at FMC, a circle represents many things: The Circle of Life We hold hands and form a circle after service Our logo is a circle We are all one with the Great Spirit, we all have the divine spark of life. Zero holds the seed of all ideas and creation. Before the Big Bang, there was a void, nothing, as far as we know, but within that nothingness, the seed was held for everything that exists today. Therefore, The Fool represents God, the Universal Architect, the Divine Energy Source, the one who created everything out of nothing. As such, the Fool has the potential for everything. Zero can mean nothing, but if you have nothing, you have the infinite potential for everything! Ground Zero The Fool is beginning at ground zero, he has nowhere to go but up! Zero can represent eggs, the womb, birth, rebirth, cycles, and wheels. Zero is the number of the God force and Universal Energies and reinforces, amplifies, and magnifies the vibrations of the numbers it appears with. The number zero encompasses the attributes of all other numbers, and brings one closer to the God force or Source. According to Doreen Virtue: The number Zero is the infinite perfection of our Divine Creator, and represents a connection with God. Zero is symbolized by a perfect circle without beginning and end. It is both nothing and everything, the Alpha and the Omega. The Fool, then is at the beginning of a new journey through the tarot cards. From Zero to the Wheel of Fortune and on to The World, he has nowhere to go but up and anything can happen!

9 Lughnasadh Lughnasadh (loo-nah-sah) celebrated on August 1, is the Gaelic name for the first of three harvest festivals. Named after the sun god, Lugh, it is also known as Lammas, meaning loaf mass, since this was the time of the first wheat harvest. The first loaves of bread were taken to the church to be blessed. The first harvest was, indeed, something to celebrate! It was the most important harvest of the year. July was often referred to hungry July. Supplies stored over winter had probably run out, and aside from a few berries, fruits, and greens, very little food was available. A few dairy products were also available, milk, sour milk, and curds (the solid parts of sour milk), but only after the baby animals had been weaned. Animals could not be slaughtered for meat until it was cold enough to store it safely. Along with the first harvest came the opportunity to brew fresh beer, an essential drink since clean water could be difficult to find. Stronger drink was also distilled, and the word whiskey is derived from a Gaelic word for good water! Feasting and many festivals were held where abundance was celebrated, games were played, and ritual observances were conducted to give thanks for the new harvest. Other festivities included a ritual cutting of the first corn of the season and making an offering to the deities. A sacred bull would be sacrificed, and a meal including corn and billberries was made. Offering the first fruits to the deities was viewed as a way to not only offer thanks but to offer prayers asking for blessings on the rest of the harvest season. While many may view this as a pagan celebration, Hebrews and Christians alike were told to offer their first fruits to God. Proverbs 3: 9-10 tells us, Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase, So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with thy wine. Likewise, many Native American Tribes ceremonially observed harvest festivals. The First Nations of the Southeastern United States-Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Iroquois, Seminole, and others - corn (maize) was their single most important food. Therefore, corn also played an important part in their religious and ceremonial life. In July or August, they observed the feast of the Green Corn Ceremony, which also included offering the first fruits as thanks and ask blessings on the rest of the crop. Lughnasadh is also known as a sun festival, being named after the Gaelic god, Lugh, a solar deity and harvest god. Lugh was the king of the Tuatha de Danaan, a race of divine beings whose name translates as, people of the Goddess Danu.
