1 First Metaphysical Church AUGUST 2016 NEWSLETTER We all want to be happy, that's universal. Why then does it seem so to be such a difficult thing to achieve a truly happy life? It often seems that we just get the hang of it when it slips though our fingers. The Dali Lama says in the book The Art of Happiness: I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. That is clear. Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, we are all seeking something better in life. So I think the very motion of our life is towards happiness. If you maintain a feeling of compassion, loving kindness, then something automatically opens your inner door. Through that, you can communicate more easily with other people. And that feeling of warmth creates a kind of openness. You'll find that all human beings are just like you, so you will be able to relate to them more easily. That gives you a spirit of friendship. Then there's less need to hide things, and as a result, feelings of fear, self-doubt, and insecurity are automatically dispelled. The truly wonderful thing about our little church is that we see the spark of Spirit in all of life. All of Creator's children are worthy of compassion. We all have differences. In the way we look, our beliefs, and customs. But no matter what those differences are the way we are the same always outweigh those differences. Love and light will always brighten the darkness. 2 Hello August! It seems to be a wild ride for many people since the beginning of May. With all that is going on in the world and in individual lives, it s easy to get caught up in the drama of the moment. Our opening at Church Service states that we come here to experience unconditional love, non-judgment and oneness. That is one of the things that makes this place a Lighthouse; but what does it mean? I m currently reading Don Miguel Ruiz Jr, The Mastery of Self; Simple Steps, But not Easy. In it he states that: Peace and harmony from the point of view of unconditional love are the engagement of equals, using knowledge and awareness to co-create a dream whose diversity reflects the free will of each individual living in this moment. You all remember the cartoons with the Devil & Angel that sit on the shoulder, or the Native American story about the two wolves the Bad Wolf & Good Wolf, in The Mastery of Self it s called The Parasite & The Ally. The parasite is the negative self-talk that we have been conditioned to believe as the truth. This habit of thinking is due to our upbringing, culture and current self-talk; what he calls domestication. The Ally is the positive Self-talk, and way of looking at things, because it s all perception. The example he gives for reframing the parasitic self-talk to ally self-talk is how one person at first felt like a victim because her father was in the military and they moved a lot, so she felt that she was often shy, disconnected and alone. However when she reframed her childhood to reflect the good that came out of it, she saw that her childhood was an adventure where she got to experience many different cultures and learned to appreciate how diverse humans are. To practice unconditional love we have to reframe who we are; to forgive ourselves and others and have self-compassion and self-forgiveness. At our essence we are all unconditional love; that is what our Divine Self is: Unconditional Love! As our T-shirts say Peace Begins Here; but not just here as in this church, but Peace Begins Here also within yourself... Remember to Remember! We are each the Light shining for others to see. Let s continue to make this a better world by shining our Divine Light for others to see. It is our individual and collective Divine Light that will chase away the darkness. Be your best Authentic Divine Self! Nelson Mandela used this excerpt from Marianne Williamson s book :A Return To Love in his inauguration speech. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You re playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. Blessings, Rev. 9 Knights Quick wit and sword are not needed here, For you just have to answer one question dear, What comes here to admire, but not to steal? Has a beauty beyond any other appeal? A true heart is the key to find within what you believe to be. The Who's Who of Fairies Brownies: Brownies are helpful little men with brownish skin and brown clothing. They have been said to visit farms in Scotland and do household chores while the family sleeps. All they ask in return for their work is a bowl of cream. Dwarfs: These aged creatures of the mountains are miners with magical powers. They won't appear aboveground in daylight because they'll turn to stone. They wear long clothes to cover their feet, which are deformed or point backward. Elves: Elves are merry creatures who live in colonies under the earth. They love parties, music, and dancing, but they kidnap people who are caught listening to their music. Flower fairies: In the gardens of China, flower fairies dress like young girls and spread the scent of flowers as they dance. Gnomes: Gnomes are bearded men with broad, leathery features who never age and who always wear hoods. They guard hidden treasure in the woods and hills where they live. Goblins: Goblins, the thieves of the fairy world, have a bad reputation. They have deformed bodies with huge, bulging eyes and live in underground caves. Huldre: These Icelandic fairies look like beautiful girls from the front, but in back they may have cow tails or they may be one-sided. They demonstrate that beauty is only one part of something. Leprechauns: These clever, independent little men wear three-cornered hats. They are shoemakers who make only one shoe, not a pair. Every leprechaun has a hidden pot of gold. Menehunes: These hard-working Hawaiian fairies work at night building bridges and roads. They are small, dark-eyed creatures with shaggy eyebrows and deep, gruff voices Monaciello: This Italian fairy is dressed in a hooded robe. It comes out at night to lead poor and needy people to hidden treasure. Pixies: These green dancing fairies have a king, a queen, and a full royal court. Pixies live in England, where they pull pranks on people. Sandman: He travels the world over, sprinkling sleep dust in children's eyes to help them fall asleep. Tooth fairy: No one has seen a tooth fairy, so their appearance has not been described. When a child's tooth falls out, the tooth fairy takes it away and leaves a reward in its place. Vilas: These fairy sisters live in the Alps, where they heal the sick and foretell the future. Will-o'-wisps: Will-o'-wisps are mischievous fairies who light up on dark nights. They snatch the lights of travelers and try to lead them astray.

10 Fairy food is milk, cream and butter. Many small cottages in Ireland built in a fairy path have front and back doors directly opposite each other which are left ajar to allow fairies free passage. Fairies love to dance and are fond of the music of fiddles, harps, tambourines, and cymbals. A sock under the bed helps to keep troublesome fairies away. 11 Dedication of FMC s Fairy Garden Sunday, September 25 th Join us for the dedication of our fairy garden. We have been working on the front lawn of our church for a couple of months, cleaning brush and trash from under the giant bush. We voted to make it into a fairy garden for all to enjoy. For all of August and September, please search your lawns for a tiny item to bring to our garden. You can also pick up items at garage sales. We have also seen things at dollar store and garden centers on clearance. We are looking for someone with a table saw that can cut tiny wooden windows, approximately 2 inches by 2 inches, and doors aproximately 3 inches by 5 inches for the youth group to paint. Please call Rev Sherry for more details Our dedication will start shortly after the pot luck supper on this Sunday. At this time we will let all put items in the fairy garden. Thank you for making this dedication a success.
