3 Pastor s Notes Economic challenges continue to impact many families within our parish community. Some of those impacted are families that have students in SVS School, trying to provide a good Catholic education, but are struggling to pay their tuition and have fallen behind. These families can use our help. I am reaching out to the parish community for those families needing our charity. If you would like to sponsor a child at SVS School that needs assistance, I will open a special account which will govern to help these families and is tax deductible. If your means provide, please make the check payable to St. Veronica Church and put tuition assistance in the memo. Despite all the findings of science, which makes people assume that there is no God, there is a very close connection with God and nature. We Catholics teach that God made a Natural Law, which if not followed, will cause us harm. The new encyclical on ecology will be published next week. We also teach that our behaviors regarding marriage are part of the Natural Law. It is interesting to see that when these laws are violated, there are very hurtful consequences, both physical and spiritual. Ignoring these laws takes away our sensitivity to these consequences because we are led to believe by the scientific world that they can be overcome. The spiritual and physical damage, however, does not repair so easily, but we can all pretend that I m ok and you re ok. Living through a divorce and its consequences for the children and dealing with cancer are great hardships. The trans-gender issue has come up in an in your face manner. There are actually legitimate uses for such operations, particularly with children who may be born with both sex organs. Generally these operations are concealed from the public because they are of a delicate nature for the child. The parents have to make a tough decision along with medical advice on trying to determine which sex should be chosen given the biological circumstances. The present change is very odd because it is flaunting it before the public in immodest ways. I must confess that my observations still see the man, now woman, more as a man than a woman. We hope that the medical people involved have found good reason to make such a change and that the consequences do not harm the person and their families. Hormone therapy is a very dangerous undertaking. I have seen some children wrecked by it. There was a low turnout for the primaries this year. That seems to be because there was no choice. My ballot had choose two of two or three of three. What a waste of taxpayers money. Can we expect any change if we keep this up? We Catholics need to involve ourselves in political action or there will be no attempt to interject Catholic values in this system. Our children are unemployed and taxed into the welfare submission. We are losing our individual liberties to the rich. Like France, there will be no future for the poor and what is left with the middle class. The imagery in the first reading certainly points to God s power with and over nature. In the time of Ezekiel there was limited technology and people were more sensitive to the invisible world that God created. If they were not enlightened by revelation, they invented imaginary gods to explain away what they recognized but could not Fr. Euk Scripture Meditation "It is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how." In today's parable about the kingdom of God, Jesus gives us the image of something that grows "of its own accord." Yes, the man does the initial planting of the seed, but the real miracle of the seed turning into a full-grown plant happens without the intervention of the farmer. God makes it happen. So too, with the kingdom of God, we are called to participate to a certain extent, but also to allow God to work. We first do our part when we "scatter seed" of faith, by living out the baptism that made us children of this glorious kingdom. But even as we make our daily choices to follow Christ and live as his children--with all the actions, decision, and commitments that entails--we still get to enjoy the miracle of sitting back and watching God's providence in action.... Just think of the beauty of creation and the seasons. Think about the gift of a newborn baby in the arms of its parents. Think about the surprising situations that resolved themselves in our relationships, jobs, and families. Think of the encouraging stories of forgiveness, reconciliation, and conversion that we have heard or experienced firsthand. Think of the blessings that have somehow come out of the trials and tribulations of our lives. Think of all the sick, poor, and lonely who have been comforted by believers. Think of the moments of peace and insight that we have received in prayer. So it is that God makes our seeds "sprout and grow" when we sincerely take that first step of faith to enter his kingdom.

4 OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE Adoration Chapel On the occasion of the Great Jubilee of the year 2000, Pope John Paul II imparted a Special Apostolic Blessing "to all the faithful, who during Adoration of Our Most Merciful Savior in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar will be praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for the sick and for those throughout the world who will be dying in that hour." (divinemercy.org) The Apostolic blessing extends indefinitely for all who participate. 5 Diocese of Trenton Teen Service and Justice Retreat Teens in 8-12 grade are invited to attend Splash, an overnight service and justice retreat. During these two days, participants will serve in the local community and experience interactive lessons on justice and Jesus. The cost is $25.00 per person.
