1 Branson First Church of the Nazarene NEW MEMBERS! On Sunday, March 12, four people became official members of BFCN: Bob Alarid, Jayme Tabuchi, Nadine Elander, and Steve Waltmire. These four are already serving in the church. Bob is our Hispanic minister; Jayme, daughter of Audie Erickson, is taking care of our toddlers during Sunday School hour; Nadine with her two young sons are growing in the Lord; and Steve, who transferred his membership from Pasadena First, has been singing with the Praise Team. We are blessed to have these folks as official members of the church. NEW CHURCH BOARD The results of the church board elections are in. The board members are as follows: Ruth Brasfield, John Clements, Leona Davis, Richard Davis, Lonnie Fletcher, Carolyn Smolik, Martin Smolik, Joy Straley and Ken Warrick. Sunday school convention delegates are James Plummer, Nancy Plummer and Ken Warrick. Alternates are Richard and Leona Davis. From that dark tomb so sad Christ is risen; He's not there! Rejoice and be ye glad! The Easter message we would give To all for whom He died; Trust Him today and you will live Forever by His side! BOARD MEETING UPDATE S The church board members met on Monday, March 13 to discuss the church business. It was to be the last meeting for this church board because elections for the Board in the new fiscal year took place on March 19. The update regarding the status of the Worship Leader is that there are three candidates still being considered. Interviews are scheduled, but basically, we are still looking for God s choice! Please continue to pray on this matter. The Stewards presented their proposed budget for the fiscal year April 2017 to March After much discussion and with more information about expenses, the Board voted to table any decisions until the Stewards can revisit their proposal and call a special meeting for approval. A bid of $1,400 was received to enlarge and raise the sound booth, plus another $200 for cable extensions. The Board voted to table any decisions about it at this time. Pastor Jim call a special board meeting on March 30 to further discuss the fiscal year budget. The goal was to balance the outgo with the income! The Board did adopt the proposed budget. CIRCLE OF SISTERS Because of a calendar conflict, the Circle of Sisters will change its April meeting to April 11, the second Tuesday of the month. We will meet at Anita Viles new home at 11:30 am. Her theme is Showers of Blessings. (However, we are praying there is no rain that day.) Her new address is 128 Roark Hills Dr. From Gretna turn onto Town & Country Dr. (next to miniature golf course), turn left onto Summerwood, turn left onto Roark Hills Dr. It s the third house on the left. We are excited to see Anita s new house! All ladies are welcome to attend.

3 Page 3 BE POSITIVE BY PASTOR JIM Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things (Philippians 4: 8, NIV). Years ago I was member of the International Optimist Club. One of the publications I read from that organization was Success Unlimited. Of course, Norman Vincent Peal s book, The Power of Positive Thinking, was often quoted. Articles were written by many motivational speakers that were well known some 35 years ago. And, as powerful and inspirational as these writers were, none were any better than the Apostle Paul who, with the anointing of the Holy Spirit, wrote Philippians 4:8. In fact, the entire Epistle to the Philippians is an upbeat, positive, inspirational, and motivational writing that has transformed more people than all the writers of Success Unlimited. And the wonder of wonders is the fact that Paul wrote this letter that is often referred to as The Epistle of Joy while he was in prison. Talk about optimism! And this verse reminds us that we have control over our thoughts. Our thoughts shape who we are and how we feel about ourselves and others. In this world in which we live, it is so easy to focus on all the bad news, the tragic, the failures in our society. Rather than being depressed over those things, would not the world be so much better off if everyone focused on the good and sought solutions and strategies to accomplish that good? And it is so easy to see weaknesses and flaws in the people we meet but wouldn t it be so much better if we looked for the strengths and good qualities in people and seek to build them up? In the Love Chapter (1 Corinthians 13) we read in verses 4-7, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit to set a high standard for us in love and positive thinking. It would be good if each of us would examine our hearts and our thought-life and ask God to help us live up to that standard! MEN S FELLOWSHIP BRE AKFAST Leona and Richard Davis host the Men s Fellowship Breakfast the first Saturday of the month. As many as 22 men have shown up for Leona s delicious biscuits and gravy, eggs & sausage, fruit and sometimes her special cinnamon rolls! John Clements usually presents a topic for a lively discussion. All men are welcome to attend.

Millennials who have yet to master the ins and outs of adulthood can now get a leg up in classes at an adulting school. Founded by a local therapist and a former public school teacher, the Adulting School in Portland, Maine, aims to teach essential life skills to 20 and 30-somethings who still rely heavily on their parents. Dozen of millennials have paid $30 per event to hear tips on how to cook a meal, book a dental appointment, and show up to meetings on time. One attendee, age 25, said she attended because my mom sent me the link.
