St. Mary s Academy News FIRST GRADE NEWS The first grade class has been enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. We are getting very excited for our Trunk or Treat and Halloween celebrations here at school. In order to get into the Halloween and Fall spirit, the students have been working on a writing piece called "How to Carve a Pumpkin." Their directions are very creative and fun to read. We are also learning about God, Our Father and Creator. The students are quickly understanding that God created everything out of love. The first graders have been working very hard in math and science too! They are learning how to solve all sorts of different problems. We are looking forward to all the fun and upcoming events for the end of October and the beginning of November! Thank you for your support and prayers! God Bless You! All Souls Mass of Remembrance All Souls Day is a holy day set aside for commemorating the faithful departed. Each year our parish celebrates this day with our Mass of Remembrance. This year, our Mass of Remembrance will take place on Sunday, November 4th at 5:00pm. As part of our celebration this year, we invite anyone with a loved one who has recently passed to come forward before weekend Masses this weekend and next weekend (including the Mass of Remembrance) and write the deceased s name in our Book of Life. A wine and cheese reception will be held after Mass and all are welcome to attend. Women of St. Mary s Faith Group Come tour the Saint Marianne Cope Shrine and Museum! The Women of St. Mary s invite all ladies on a tour of the St. Marianne Cope Shrine and Museum, at 601 N. Townsend St., Syracuse, adjacent to St. Joseph s Hospital. The one hour tour will take place on Monday, November 5th at 10:30am. There is an outdoor garden and gift shop to visit as well. Those interested in carpooling will meet at St. Mary s circle at 10am. We have explored works that reflect religious images, portraits, self portraits and landscapes. Our focus piece, "The Mill" created by Rembrandt in 1650 has inspired us to make our own paper windmills. We have used our focus piece to compare and contrast an image created by Monet that also featured a windmill. We are looking forward to observing additional images and learning more about this important historic painter. Men s Group Men of St. Mary's Faith Group: Men 18 and up meet every Wednesday at 7:30pm in the Conference Room. Come and enjoy the fellowship of other men as we strengthen our faith together. We share the Gospel and encourage each other in the Faith. Come on your own or bring a friend. Lists of specific food items needed can be found on our website. Anyone who signs up to volunteer by October 30th gets a free t-shirt and the opportunity to win a free entrance fee to the race by writing a brief statement on what community means to you. St. Augustine s and St. Mary s are happy to partner with The Baldwinsville Kiwanis Club to help improve the lives of children and their families in Baldwinsville and Central New York.
