He was born on July 26,1946. He was a law enforcement professional that served this community for many years as a Jailer, a Deputy and as a Brenham Police Officer; reaching the rank of Sergeant. His son Seth, now carries on the tradition. Guess who I ran into while taking in a Play. It s Dorothy Ann and James Rothermel. They said to tell everyone hello. Don t they look great! I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Sgt. Seth Klehm for not being able to make the visitation and the funeral for his father, retired BPD Sgt. Larry Wayne Klehm. And further, to say that he has my condolences and those of our whole organization. While I am sure that he understands; I just want to make sure that he knows how we feel. While speaking with some of the older law enforcement officers, I got a glimpse into what kind of man his father was; and what he meant to those who knew him. He will be missed. Along those same lines, I would like to reiterate the sentiments that I conveyed to Juanita Hickey on the passing of her son James. James Lee Hickey was born on March 4th 1960 and went to his eternal home finding peace and rest on September 27, 2016 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, TX. Juanita is going through a rough patch, but has family staying with her through this trying time. I hope she knows that she can count on her other family too; the CPAAA. We re praying for you and your family, and the Klehm family, as well. May God Bless You All

6 Page 6 Community Relations At It s Best Such finesse, its like a dance watching Cpl. David Dudenhoeffer clean debris from the roadway. He got moves! He had help, his dance partner was Ofc. Sierra Newell. From Len the Ten!! Parades are also good for Community Relations. Good Job Jose! Yes, Cleaning debris from the roadway does constitute Community Relations. Think about it; when you run over glass on the highway, who does the average person blame? And passing motorists don t just see us standing around! So good job guys; the fact that it was so rhythmic was an added plus! The week before Kid Fish we had a fingerprinting assignment at Lowe s for their annual Safety Day. We printed 43 children. Special thanks to Annette, Ron, Wanda and Rob.

The BPD is presented with a check for $500 from the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Los Carnales/La Familia Motorcyclye Club. You may recognize some of the members, they are local LEOS; and a great bunch of guys!!

8 Heroes Day Luncheon Page 8 A BIG THANK YOU to H.E.B. for hosting this First Responders Luncheon, which commemorates the Heroes of It was held on Sept. 12th at the Fire Department EOC. Lunch was great and the fellowship was even greater. And if that wasn t enough, the Fire Department took us up in their aerial basket (several H.E.B. employees and COPs took advantage of this unique tour of Brenham, from 100 feet up). 9 Page 9 No Shave November has taken on a whole new meaning at the Brenham Police Department. Starting October 1 and continuing on through the end of November, members of the department will be allowed to grow facial hair as a fundraiser benefitting Adam s Angels. Adam s Angels Ministry offers care and support to families with children fighting cancer. The organization also works to raise funds for cancer research. Beginning Oct. 1 through Nov. 30, officers will be allowed to grow a beard or goatee if they personally donate at least $25 per month to Adam s Angels. Officers are allowed to have a sponsor if they choose and certain standards must be maintained while on duty to ensure they continue to present a professional appearance to the public, said Chief Craig Goodman. The idea for the fundraiser came from one of the sergeants, Goodman said, and after some consideration he agreed. The goal of No Shave November is to grow awareness of one of the many challenges cancer patients face the loss of hair. Participants are encouraged to donate the money they would have spent on shaving to cancer research. Sgt. Justin Schiller suggested the idea as a way to allow the officers to participate, Goodman said. Our policy prohibits beards and goatees so this gives the officers an opportunity to have a relaxed grooming standard for the benefit of a great charity. No Shave November Officers must keep facial hair neatly groomed and maintained while in uniform. Our officers are very supportive of Adam s Angels and are happy for the opportunity to get hairy in the name of charity, he said. We want to take this opportunity to challenge all first responders in the area to participate in No Shave November and raise funds in the fight against cancer. Below are some examples of bearded Police Officers. I think some don t look to bad; especially if you are an undercover officer!!

10 Page 10 The Informant Disaster Drill The Brenham Police Department, Washington County Sheriff s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Washington County Constables Offices, Washington County EMS, Washington County Dispatch, and the Brenham Fire Department participated in a multiple agency training scenario. The scenario was one that all citizens dread the most, an active shooter in a school. All members of the training scenario pulled together and successfully achieved their goal, preserving the lives of the innocents. First responders know the importance of training and this was affirmed and put into action today. This scenario was the first of many multi-agency training scenarios to come. Great Job by all agencies involved! MRAP above and Command Trailer below were both utilized.

Come early (5 pm or so) to enjoy hotdogs, sausage and chips. Wear your favorite costume (No scary clowns please)! We will be collecting candy to hand out at the Candy drive-thru. You can bring it that night or to the general meeting or drop off anytime at Max Donuts. FUNDRAISER INFO: The deadline to return all unsold tickets and/or money is Oct. 31st. You can turn in tickets/money to Annette Tiemann (or at the Halloween Drive Thru) Get your tickets for the CPAAA Fall Fundraiser!!! ALL CPAAA members are encouraged to sell tickets for the Chicken & Sausage Drive-thru Dinner which will be held on NOV 7th, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Brenham Police Department.
