2 MINISTER S CORNER I didn t realize just how rare it was until the next day. When I arrived home after WELD Family Night ended, I took some time to reflect on the event and realized just how uncommon it was to see so many families spending time together at a church event. Typically, at events such as a potluck or Harvest Party or even Sunday morning, parents will spend the majority of their time with friends and the children will do the same. But Phil and I didn t give them that chance last Sunday night. Rather, we had families be TOGETHER. They sat together, ate together, talked together, learned together, laughed together, and prayed together. All this togetherness was a rare sight to my eyes. If I observed the families in the room well, I believe it was a fruitful time for Family Blessings them. I think every family left having learned something about themselves and the members of their own families. Some of the learning had to do with the theme of the night, which was Forgive! Families learned about forgiveness through the parable Jesus told about the unmerciful servant in Matthew 18: Each member of each family discussed times when they were forgiven by someone and how it felt to be forgiven. They learned to forgive a lot because God has forgiven them a lot. In addition, families learned more than the Bible story. They learned the value of talking at mealtime and were given questions to ask each other as they ate. I imagine for some families this went quite well. For others, it may have been Continued on next page- So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. -Isaiah 41:10 SENIOR MINISTER CANDIDATE To the Church Family: The weekend of October 21st, you had the opportunity to meet Michael, our Senior Minister candidate. He was overwhelmingly affirmed with a 94% vote. Unfortunately, Michael has chosen not to take the position. We believed he was the man to lead us here at FCC, but after taking a couple days to think and pray, he believed the timing was not right. We will continue the process of searching for a senior minister. We are also discussing what the best plan is for the interim period. We ask your prayers as we continue our search for who God wants here at FCC. Thank you. NEW MEMBERS Welcome to Riley and Leslie (Kern) Smith who came forward on October 28th to unite with the church family here at FCC. Riley and Leslie Smith make their home at 204 E Scott ST, Tuscola, with their children Quinton, Kirstin, Kylie, and Cameron. Welcome to the church family! PRIME TIMERS Wednesday, November 14 at 11:30 am Join us for our catered Thanksgiving dinner at the Smith House on Main Street. Cost is $9.50 per person, payable at the door. Our program will be music by Susan Patterson. Reservation deadline is Friday, Nov. 9th. Come and enjoy the fellowship, the music and a great meal! Page 2
3 Ministers.. continued quite a challenge. Whatever the case, families were connecting, and helping families connect is a primary purpose for the WELD Family Night program. We want families to take what they ve learned and apply it at home. Deuteronomy 6:7b says, Talk about them [commands of God] when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. In other words, parents have the serious privilege and responsibility of teaching their own children the things of God everyday. But if parents and children are rarely together, how will a parent instruct and influence their children? I personally hope WELD Family Night encourages everyone to be God s family. It was a joy to see so many families, and it was a blessing to be together. My hope now is that the momentum will continue and that seeing families be together will not be such a rare sight. Blessings, Jason Rennert Kids Choir is back!
